Chapter Two: A Beauty Among Men
"Lin Dang, wait!" A familiar male voice came from not far outside the office.
"Who are you?" I looked up. This height... wait, could he be the person I just bumped into?
"I am Chu Zhen."
"Hello!" I greeted him, pretending not to know him.
"This is your USB drive, right? You were in such a hurry when you took the taxi that I went straight to your department head's office. I just got here and you came right after me."
I then took a good look at the "frail man." By rough estimation, he should be around 1.9 meters tall, since I had to look up at him. Secondly, although he was lean, his physique suggested he was a trained fighter; he shouldn't have been knocked down by a single bump. Was my impact force that strong over short distances? As for his appearance, his thin face had distinct features, and his high, straight nose, while somewhat hooked, made his face more three-dimensional. He had thick eyebrows, big eyes, and thin lips. In my four years of university, I had never seen such a "stunner"!
"Uh, it's mine. I'm sorry, I was in a rush to submit my paper and I didn't know you were hurt." Faced with such a super handsome guy, it's time to put aside your so-called pride.
"I'm not injured, but..." Let's just call him Long-Legs Bro, he hesitated.
"Tell me your request. As long as it's reasonable and legal, I'll agree to it."
"You bumped into your stomach, and it seems a bit uncomfortable. You might need some food to replenish your energy."
"Understood." How could such a conversation be difficult for me? I'm a liberal arts student, after all, and I have the ability to understand this.
"But it might not be possible today. I need to get new glasses, and as you just heard, I need to revise my thesis by Friday. How about this, if the thesis passes, I'll treat you to a meal!"
"Why not take advantage of this opportunity? I'll go with you to get your glasses first, and then we can grab something to eat. I've heard there are a lot of good restaurants near your school."
Looks like Long-Legged Bro is definitely going to rip me off today. I checked my pockets. I've been busy with my graduation thesis lately and haven't had time to do any part-time work. The wartime supplies my parents gave me were all gone as soon as they were distributed. I also need to get new glasses soon. I wonder if Long-Legged Bro is trying to scam me.
"Wait a moment, I'll make a call." At this point, she could only turn to Huang Yanyan for help.
"Transfer 1,000 to me, I'll pay you back in a few days, it's extremely urgent."
Is one thousand enough?
"That's enough, that's enough, just spin it now!"
"Let's go, let's get our glasses fitted first, then you can decide what you want to eat." Sure enough, having a rich second-generation best friend gives you confidence.
How about this one?
"No, this material isn't suitable for you. Try this one instead."
"How about it?"
"That doesn't seem to work either; the frames are bigger than your face."
"What about this one?"
"No, no, without a framework, with your reckless attitude, we'd have to change it every day."
...
Clearly, bringing the long-legged guy here was the right decision. They've tried over a dozen frames, and they've all been rejected. The waitress must be working part-time; she's clearly having a tough time.
"Senior, I actually think your face shape looks good in anything."
"Little sister, you can't say that. It's easy for your senior to get the wrong idea."
"What illusion?" Still basking in the junior's praise, he suddenly wanted to know what kind of illusion it was.
"You think you're good-looking, but your face shape isn't actually that nice," the long-legged guy said casually, still choosing frames for me. Did anyone hear the cracking sound of my clenched fist?
"This one, I think it suits you." The long-legged man took out a pair of black metal-framed glasses.
"It really suits you, senior has great taste!" I don't know if the junior was just being polite or if it really looked good, but her eyes lit up as soon as I put it on.
"Okay, this is it. Can you also check if you can fix the broken one?"
After paying the bill and receiving my glasses, my world finally became clear again.
"What do you want to eat? Let's go!" The glasses were surprisingly cheap, and there was still a large sum of money left over, which should be enough to satisfy his appetite.
"I heard there's a really good milk tea place here, and their desserts are pretty good too!"
"You've heard a lot, and the information is all accurate. What else? I'll pack it all up for you now; I need to get back to my dorm." I really didn't have time to waste with him here.
Aren't you going to eat with me?
"Of course, all you need to soothe your stomach is food. My role now is that of a doctor. I will diagnose you and prescribe medication, which you can then take yourself."
"Okay, then I'll have milk tea from the East Gate, duck neck from the West Gate, stinky tofu from the South Gate Street, and tiramisu from the North Gate."
Good heavens, the Teachers' College is famously huge. If you walk around it from east to west and north to south, the sun will be setting in the west. I'm going to spend the whole day here. No way, no way!
"Milk tea is 13 yuan a cup, duck neck is 20 yuan a serving, stinky tofu is 10 yuan a serving, tiramisu is 10 yuan each, here's 100 yuan, please go ahead, I'm not keeping you company anymore, consider the extra as your errand fee!" I stuffed 100 yuan into his hand and ran off at lightning speed. This guy is definitely a con artist, I kept telling myself, and I walked even faster.
"Lin Dang, what are you doing? Why are you running so fast?" I finally arrived at the dormitory building. I don't even know how I managed to run the whole kilometer back. It's true that a person's potential is not to be underestimated. If I had this kind of strength during the physical education exam, I wouldn't have had to retake it.
"You ran into a scammer, but luckily you've shaken them off. By the way, you didn't need the money, so I'll transfer it back to you!"
"Master Huang didn't do anything to you, did she?" Huang Yanyan looked anxious.
"No, it's fine. We just need to modify the discussion section a little. But I'm worried that after I make the changes, there might be other problems."
"Probably not. Lots of people got approved today, yours should be fine. By the way, what about staged accidents?"
"It's not quite right to call it a staged accident. He's quite handsome and doesn't seem like the type to stage an accident. But if that's not the case, why is he keeping an eye on me? I just bumped into him when I was leaving the hospital, and he kept chasing me all the way to the school."
"Handsome guy? He followed you all the way to school?" I really admire Huang Yanyan's choice of keywords; she really hit the nail on the head.
"Hey girl, I'm back in the dorm! Did you get me some food? I'm starving!" After running around like that, my stomach is really going to give out.
"I'm in the dorm. Go to the dorm supervisor's place and microwave it again. It might be a little cold. I'm going out now. I have a job interview today." Huang Yanyan is a typical rich second-generation. Her family owns a company, but she doesn't want to follow in her father's footsteps and insists on doing some self-media work.
