Chapter Sixty-Eight: Restlessness

Chapter Sixty-Eight: Restlessness

"That woman is way too glamorous, I don't like that kind of thing~"

"After all, they came back from abroad, so their thinking is definitely more modern. It's normal that their clothing and other things are different from ours."

"You've got your eye on her, haven't you? I didn't realize you liked this style!"

......

The company's break room always has the latest news. I just happened to be getting water when I overheard the gist of it: a sexy and trendy new colleague had joined the company.

"Sister Lin Dang, do you know the new manager in the advertising department?"

He wanted to escape the trouble as soon as possible, but he was still caught by Yao Yao.

"I don't know~" The news section I'm in charge of has never been related to advertising, so I don't pay attention to what other departments are doing.

"She's back from America, and she's so sexy, but I still think Sister Lin Dang is the most beautiful girl in our newspaper."

Yao Yao isn't my type. Through family connections, she got a job in administration at a newspaper after graduation, moving between different departments every day. She's very good at handling interpersonal relationships, but she's also quite good at gossiping about others behind their backs.

"Being the most beautiful girl in the club is for you young people. I'm just a leftover woman at best." I left with my water glass, and as I turned around, I accidentally bumped into someone.

"I'm sorry!" I hurriedly pulled out a tissue to wipe my face, but I was stunned. This face was deeply imprinted in my mind. Although I was dressed more maturely now, my appearance was almost unchanged.

"It's alright~" Her voice was as clear as a lark's, accompanied by a charming and sweet smile. This kind of woman truly deserves the title of a rare beauty!

"Hello, I'm Amy, the new advertising manager!"

"Hello, Lin Dang!" I extended my right hand and grasped her outstretched hand. Her hand was soft and warm, while my palms were sweating. She also had a bright smile, just like in the photo, like a ray of warm sunshine shining into people's hearts.

"Sister Lin Dang, the director is looking for you~" Just as I was wondering how to start the conversation, Xu Jing called me over. She is my assistant editor, a gentle young woman.

"Excuse me, I need to go see the director now."

The director is about to retire. He used to be like me, dedicated to social news and had also taught in mountainous areas. So he took extra care of me.

"Lin Dang, your previous report on left-behind children in mountain villages received a good response. Now many companies are going there to develop the area, and locals can work and earn money from home, which has greatly reduced the number of left-behind children," the director praised me.

"Director, if you have any new projects, just tell me!" I never beat around the bush with the director. It's been so long since the report on left-behind children, so if the director brings it up now, it's definitely laying the groundwork for the next special report.

"I knew you were like me the most, so I'll get straight to the point: how about we do a feature on food safety?"

"Food safety?"

"Yes, recently there have been a lot of topics about fake eggs, toxic milk powder, and clenbuterol on the internet. Are you interested in taking on the challenge?"

Thinking back to when I was an intern, I worked with Chu Zhen on a report about "gutter oil." The risk factor was quite high. If it weren't for Chu Zhen, I probably would have been killed long ago.

"interested in."

As a journalist, isn't my job to expose these dark sides?

"I thought you were unwilling when I saw you hesitated just now. Okay, then you can prepare this special feature, and I'll dedicate a column to you later."

"Don't worry, I will definitely live up to your expectations!"

I readily agreed verbally, but I don't have any thoughts on food safety for the time being. The special reports I've been working on lately have all been current affairs news, so I need to start researching and conducting in-depth investigations.

“Let’s do it together. Newspapers and television are inseparable.” After I got home, I told Chu Zhen this, and that was his reply.

"Okay~" With Chu Zhen around, I was very motivated to do things. I didn't refuse and agreed very directly.

"By the way, Amy has joined our newspaper as the advertising manager."

The name Amy first appeared in my and Chu Zhen's lives, and it was I who brought it up first.

"I heard about it, but I didn't expect it to happen so quickly!" Chu Zhen looked up from behind the computer, his face calm, showing no emotion or guilt.

"Lin Dang~"

Chu Zhen put down what he was doing and sat down next to me.

"Amy is my sister~"

"Sister?" Now it was my turn to be surprised. The rival I had always thought of was actually Chu Zhen's sister?

"Didn't you say you were my high school classmate?" I've always had my doubts about Amy's identity, and it turns out she's definitely more than just a classmate.

“Amy is the daughter of the woman my father remarried. She’s a year younger than me. She went abroad the second year after I left. Even though she had opinions about my father, she was just a member of the blended family, just like me. I played the role of the older brother in school. Later, I returned to China, but she was still in the United States. She came back once three years ago, and you happened to run into her there. I don’t know why she came back this time.” Chu Zhen spoke calmly, as if he were telling someone else’s story.

"I didn't ask anything, why are you telling me so much?" I said guiltily, who knows what I've been thinking all day.

"Just consider this a story I'm telling you. I wonder if my wife is satisfied with my story?" Chu Zhen approached me again with a playful smile.

"You have quite a few siblings. A cousin as cold as you, a charming and alluring sister, and is there anything else I don't know about?" I asked back.

"Then marry me. I'll be attending the wedding, and I'll introduce everyone to you then." Chu Zhen then pulled me onto his lap.

Amy, Chu Zhen's sister with no blood relation, was able to go to America and then come to City A. Even though Chu Zhen could describe their relationship so casually, my woman's intuition told me that Amy wouldn't simply see me as her sister. But in front of Chu Zhen, I've always been a sensible woman, and I didn't want to delve into my own feelings anymore.

"You haven't proposed marriage yet, you have no sincerity at all, how can I marry you?" As I said this, I tried to push him away, but he hugged me tighter and tighter, and when I struggled, I accidentally bumped into his chest.

"I'm sorry, I touched the wound again." I quickly patted his chest. Although I didn't touch his heart last time, Chu Zhen's chest still had a lingering effect. His chest would always hurt in rainy weather, and sometimes it would hurt even with the slightest exertion.

"It's okay, don't move, let me hold you like this~"

Chu Zhen buried his head in my chest like a child. I stroked his hair, the thick strands slipping through my fingers, making my heart itch.

"Stop touching me like that, or I won't be polite," Chu Zhen said in a muffled voice.

Normally, I would go against him and make a fuss, but now that his chest hurts, I stopped what I was doing and just quietly let him hold me, enjoying this warm moment, but I felt a little uneasy. Amy, you're making me restless.
