Chapter Seventy-Nine: A Bond Forged in Life and Death
My suspicions about my car accident grew stronger, but I did more of a private investigation. Fortunately, Song Ji-hyo had records of the accident scene and follow-up investigations. I kept watching the news reports from that day. I visited my grandmother once a week, partly because I was really worried about her being alone at home, and partly to try and find out more information.
"We haven't seen you since you got pregnant!" Chu Zhen and I spoke kindly, and finally we had a chance to meet Huang Yanyan alone.
"There's nothing we can do. Chu Zhen was worried because her placenta was unstable before."
"Chu Zhen, Chu Zhen, it's always Chu Zhen. Do you still remember the sister who lived in the bunk above you back then?" Huang Yanyan had a smug little expression. She was almost thirty years old, but she hadn't changed at all. She usually wore formal attire and had the air of a strong woman, but today she was dressed like a young girl.
"Oh, right, this is for you." Yan Yan handed me a big box.
"What?"
"The skincare products are something I asked my friend to bring back from Australia. They're specially made for pregnant women, and they also contain some health supplements. They're all good for you, so don't worry about using them!"

"You can't let Lin Dang get hurt again. If I find out even a single hair on her head is missing, I won't let you off the hook!" Yan Yan said to Chu Zhen with a smile when he came to pick me up, but it was definitely a "smile hiding a knife." Chu Zhen and I were both stunned. In all the time we'd known each other, this was the first time Huang Yan Yan had spoken so harshly to Chu Zhen. Usually, she was always intimidated by Chu Zhen's aura. "I won't give you a chance." After Chu Zhen finished speaking, he took my hand and left directly.
"That's so rude of you to leave without even saying goodbye."
"Do you two need to be polite to each other? It looks so fake."
That's true. Only superficial friendships require verbal expressions of concern; true friends show it through their actions.
"Wow, why did you buy so much? It'll last until my child is two years old!" When I got to the car, I opened the box and found several sets of skincare products inside. At my usual rate of use, this would last me three or four years.
"What is that?"
"Yan Yan asked someone to bring back skincare products from abroad, saying that my skin looks too rough now, dull and yellow, like an old woman."
