Chapter One: The Extraterrestrial Man
"Yes, yes, I'm sorry!" When I heard a loud crash accompanied by A4 papers scattered all over the floor, I knew I had successfully knocked someone down.
"Miss, are you walking without your glasses?" the other person said, sounding a bit pained.
"What 'Miss'? How can you talk like that? Who are you calling 'Miss'?" I looked up, but all I could see was a wall of people blocking my way. I slowly raised my head, and wow, how tall are they? Even I, who's only 1.65 meters tall, have to look up at them! It's really strange. I've only been to the gym twice. Did I develop such a strong physique that I could knock down someone this tall?
"What are you looking at? That's ridiculous." Although I couldn't see clearly, my hearing was fine. I realized that something was really wrong with me. I always wear glasses, but when I rolled over in the morning, I broke the frame. At my roommate's urging, I got a pair of contact lenses. But after wearing them, my eyes became inflamed, and the doctor told me not to wear them anymore. Just as I left the hospital, I bumped into someone.
"Yes, you're right, I wasn't wearing my glasses when I walked." Not wanting to argue, I can still see things within a two-meter radius with my 400 visual acuity, but this collision probably irritated my retina, and I couldn't see the other person's face clearly.
"Lin Dang, where are you? The professor is urging you to come back to your thesis! Hurry up and come back!" I wanted to continue arguing, but my roommate Yan Yan's urgent call came through, and her voice was unusually loud.
"Okay, okay, I'll be right back!" He quickly squatted down to look for his unsealed thesis. Oh no, so many pages, now they're all scattered. Why did he bring such an important thing with him when he left home?
"Lin Dang from the Journalism and Communication Department of the College of Education?" the other person said.
"What, do you know me?"
"I don't recognize it, it's written here."
I was only focused on finishing my thesis as quickly as possible, and I figured I'd go back and use my broken glasses to fix the page numbers later. I ignored the person across from me, though their voice was quite magnetic. But now wasn't the time for my fantasies. You see, my thesis advisor is a notorious shrew. I've already had my thesis rejected three times, and if it gets rejected again, I really don't know how I'll revise it.
"I checked, it should all be here. Go back and organize it again!" The long-legged guy put a thick stack of A4 papers in front of me. "Are you blind? Can you manage this by yourself?"
"You're the one with problems, you have problems everywhere." This person is really pushing his luck.
"I saw you coming out of the ophthalmology hospital, and after you bumped into me, I thought you might have an eye problem. Sorry, I might have been walking a bit too fast! But you were definitely too forceful!" No, he shouldn't be called "Long-Legged Guy." At this moment, I think he should be described as "Weak Man." Although I am 165cm tall, I only weigh 100 pounds. No matter how recklessly I charge around, anyone I can knock down must be extremely weak.
"I know you're walking fast, that's fine. I have something urgent to do right now. You sound strong, so you shouldn't be hurt. But even if you are hurt, it's okay. Didn't you just find out who I am? If you need anything, you can come to our department to find me." Just then, a taxi came by, so I immediately hailed it and headed to school.
"Lin Dang, where are you? If you don't come soon, you'll have to go to your advisor's office to hand it in yourself!" Yan Yan sent another urgent message.
"Today's start was a disaster. It looks like it's pointless to submit it now. I'll hurry up!" Thinking about today's situation, my graduation thesis is really facing a tough road ahead.
I rushed to my dorm, grabbed my glasses (which only had one leg left), and started organizing my thesis according to the page numbers. The page numbers seemed to be in order, and they didn't look messed up. I checked them again and ran to the printing room to bind them.
"One bad news, one good news!" When they arrived at the classroom door, they saw Huang Yanyan lingering there.
"Bad news, today has been bad enough already!"
"Professor Huang has already left. Those who haven't submitted their papers should go to her office to find her."
"And the good news?" In the end, there was good news.
"Professor Huang seems to be in a good mood today, so perhaps you don't need to be so pessimistic."
"This can be considered good news? Even when Master Huang smiles, it's a smile that hides a knife. It's all over, it's all over. Today has been unlucky enough. Could it be that all the bad things are just a prelude to something even worse to come?" I was almost in despair.
"Good luck to you. I'll go to the cafeteria to get you some food. Also, what's wrong with your glasses? Didn't you wear contact lenses?"
"It's all your fault. Fine, fine. When you get the food, give me two meatballs, a chicken leg, and some sweet and sour pork ribs or braised pork."
"What are you doing, eating so much? Aren't we advocating for vegetarianism? Aren't pigs cute too?"
"Doesn't every hero have a meal before he dies? Go on!" I composed myself and walked towards the professor's office, thinking about how to handle various scenarios.
The nun's door wasn't closed, and laughter could be heard coming from inside. Could it be that my luck has finally turned around today? The nun is known for her stern face, yet I can hear laughter here.
"Lin Dang is here. You could have just told me you were sick; there was no need to rush over to hand it in." Master Huang smiled at me, and I was a little stunned, standing there dumbfounded for a moment. Sick? Could this be an excuse Yan Yan made up for me?
"I'm fine. I've finished organizing the paper and sent it to you via email." I carefully handed it over, afraid of accidentally offending her.
"Yes, I've seen the one in your email. Actually, your paper is pretty good. It's just that when discussing this part, you could choose some controversial issues to improve your understanding from a perceptual to a rational level. Everything else is quite good." Master Huang smiled, but to me, it was a smile hiding a knife, because it meant that I needed to revise this part.
"Professor, do other places need to be changed?" I asked timidly.
"Everything is fine. Actually, it doesn't really matter whether you change it or not. It's just that I think you can do it even better."
"Okay, I understand. I'll go back and revise it!"
"Just hand it in by Friday. Go get a new pair of glasses first!"
Indeed, I look a bit disheveled right now, which doesn't quite fit my usual persona. I might not be considered the most beautiful girl in the journalism and communication department, but I'm definitely in the top three.
"I understand, thank you, Professor!" Just as I was about to leave, I suddenly noticed someone sitting on the sofa next to me. This figure seemed so familiar. I paused, feeling as if I had seen him before. If it weren't for Master Huang inside, I would definitely have asked him. But right now, I'm a good little rabbit, so I have to get away as quickly as possible.
