The rain has stopped, but the sun is still hiding behind the clouds and refusing to come out.

"Master!" Jiang Yanqiang dragged her exhausted and unwell body out of the room, and Huang Ying rushed up to help her.

"Let's go, let's get out of here first." Jiang Yan didn't close the door behind her, and let Huang Ying help her as they left Yunxiao Pavilion step by step.

"Is it really Liu Ruyi? Her behavior is so strange." Shangguan Zeyu walked to the door, watching Jiang Yan's departing figure, and muttered to himself.

"How did it go, Master? Did the Prince agree?" After leaving Yunxiao Pavilion, they walked for a while longer, and Huang Ying finally couldn't help but ask.

Jiang Yan sighed, stopped, and said, "He probably agreed, but he said he'll come to Pear Blossom Residence later to discuss it in detail."

Huang Ying exclaimed excitedly, "My lady! The prince is finally going to dote on you!!"

Jiang Yan couldn't help but feel a little disgusted, and awkwardly laughed, "Spoiling him? Come on, you have no idea how annoying he is!!" and continued walking.

"My lord, has the prince made things difficult for you?"

"Probably. I barely spoke to him, but I talked a lot with his dear personal bodyguard!!!" Thinking of Shangguan Zeyu's annoying words, she cursed again, "You jerk!!!"

Huang Ying was puzzled. After pondering for a while, she asked, "Master, why doesn't the Prince speak to you?"

"His guard said he was suffering from internal heat, probably because his mouth was sore, and he didn't say a word, just grunted."

"...Those words must have been said by Guard Zhang at the Prince's behest..."

"So I said... it's Zhang Qin, right? I really hate him, I absolutely hate him!!!"

Huang Ying smiled and said, "Master, don't be angry. It's our first meeting, and things have been settled. You should be happy."

Jiang Yan felt uneasy, her face full of worries.

She still didn't know what Shangguan Zeyu's feelings were for her. If, as Huang Ying said, he was going to start doting on her, then it would be a disaster for her!

She really didn't want to fall in love with someone from ancient times!

I definitely don't want to have a child with someone from ancient times!!

She's against having children!

She wants to go back, to develop her career, to realize her dreams!

Back at Pear Blossom Residence, Fuqu didn't go to the front yard to help. Instead, she boiled hot water for Jiang Yan and Huang Ying. The two of them took a hot bath and then went to sleep without even eating lunch.

They didn't wake up until late afternoon, around 3 PM.

Aside from being hungry, Jiang Yan felt no other discomfort, which she found hard to believe.

Huang Ying wasn't as lucky as her; she caught a cold and was sneezing and had a runny nose.

Jiang Yan felt very guilty. She asked Fu Qu to ask Steward Cui for some medicine, and helped to cook it. She fed it to Huang Ying before preparing to fill her stomach.

It rained in the first half of the day, and the temperature, which had just risen in the past few days, has dropped again.

Fuqu was taking care of Huangying, and the two servants were still helping in the front yard. Jiang Yan saw that there was still water on the ground and the wind was chilly, so he didn't want to go to the kitchen to find something to eat. He simply lay on the soft couch under the window and stared blankly.

If she were in modern society, she'd probably be curled up in her dorm bed watching movies, listening to music, reading novels, or chatting with her roommates about random things. It certainly wouldn't be as quiet and secluded as it is now.

Yes, she shouldn't be spacing out. Spacing out will only immerse her more deeply in a vortex of negative emotions, preventing her from seeing the beauty of tomorrow.

She needs to get busy.

But what can she do now?

Besides embroidering, he read storybooks.

She had no talent for embroidery, nor the inclination for it, so she read storybooks instead.

Although she had long since grown tired of reading the stories in the storybooks, she had no other choice.

Jiang Yan lit a candle, placed it on a low stool next to the soft couch, closed the window tightly, and nestled on the couch to read.

Novels have always revolved around one topic: "love".

Love in modern society leaves people heartbroken and hopeless, just as it was in ancient times.

No matter if it's a story of talented men and beautiful women or a power struggle, as long as love is involved, it always ends with mutual loathing, as if the promise of growing old together was nothing but a joke.

Jiang Yan suppressed his inner resistance and read it word by word.

When I read about how the male protagonist abandoned his first wife for power and married the prime minister's daughter, I was so angry that I threw the storybook on the ground.

Are all men in the world the same?

Power, status, and money will always be more important than the person you love.

Jiang Yan was furious. Just as she was about to get off the couch and pour herself a cup of tea, she caught a glimpse of a dark figure at the door out of the corner of her eye and immediately flinched in fright.

What is that?

Is it a person?

Jiang Yan thought about it haphazardly for a moment, suppressing the fear in her heart, and looked over...

It was him?!

Unbeknownst to her, Shangguan Zeyu's personal bodyguard, Zhang Qin, was standing at her doorway, smiling at her.

Is he a ghost?

Not a sound at all?

Jiang Yan glared at him, annoyed, and asked as she poured him tea, "When did you get here?"

Shangguan Zeyu was still wearing a thin veil over her eyes, but now it wasn't white, it was black.

With a faint smile, he said, "Does Your Highness not welcome me?"

Jiang Yan couldn't help but sneer, glancing at him: "Nonsense! Why should I welcome you?"

Shangguan Zeyu narrowed his eyes, but a smile appeared at the corners: "Is Your Highness blaming me?"

"You're quite clever, you know your place. Speak, what did the Prince want you to say?" Jiang Yan, holding a lake-green teacup, walked to the soft couch and plopped down.

Shangguan Zeyu never seemed to get angry.

He smiled faintly, his eyes sparkling with a captivating charm, and slowly walked towards Jiang Yan.

Jiang Yan saw him approaching, but wasn't angry. She asked again, "Has Your Highness's anger subsided?"

"Why doesn't Your Highness go and see for yourself?" The tone suddenly softened, alluring.

Jiang Yan was taken aback, her heart skipped a beat, and then she looked at him strangely.

"Your Highness, are you not allowing me to sit down?"

"These are the only benches available, please use whichever you like."

Jiang Yan didn't think much about why he suddenly spoke in a seductive voice, assuming he was crazy and talking nonsense, and went back to drinking her tea.

But Shangguan Zeyu laughed and said, "This subordinate does not wish to sit on a bench."

Jiang Yan was puzzled and looked at him questioningly, as if asking, "Are you serious about what you said?"

Just as she looked at him, Shangguan Zeyu suddenly darted away and sat down on the soft couch next to her.

Jiang Yan was startled and splashed water from her teacup all over herself. She stared at him with a panicked look and asked.

"what you up to?"

Shangguan Zeyu smiled and glanced at the collar of her clothes, which was soaked with tea, and even reached out her right hand to touch it.

Jiang Yan was truly panicked. She quickly stood up and jumped to the side, splashing the remaining water from her teacup onto her right cheek.

The cool tea flowed down her burning cheeks, quickly calming her down.

"Zhang Qin!! Don't take advantage of the Prince's favor to act so presumptuously!!"

Shangguan Zeyu burst out laughing and murmured, "Zhang Qin?"

"Hmph! Don't think I don't know what you're thinking! I'm telling you, get the hell out of here!!" Jiang Yan glared at him with disdain.

Shangguan Zeyu couldn't help but smile again, very interested in what she said, "Don't think I don't know what you're thinking," and asked.

"Do you know what I'm thinking? Why don't you say it out loud, so I can see if your understanding is correct?"

Jiang Yan sneered: "Speculate? You overestimate yourself. I know without even guessing!"

Shangguan Zeyu couldn't help but raise an eyebrow, not angry, but even more interested.

"Oh, then may I ask, Your Highness, what exactly do you know?"

Jiang Yan looked at him with disdain, and then slowly uttered words that he could not believe.

"You are the prince's male favorite, aren't you?" The smug look in his eyes deeply pierced Shangguan Zeyu's restless heart.

"Why are you so shocked? Am I wrong? Hmph, a bodyguard? Just a cover!" Jiang Yan walked to the round table and sat down, neither smiling nor annoyed. "Do you know how early I went to Yunxiao Pavilion this morning? It was still dark! Do you know how long I waited? At least two hours! I'm just wondering, when exactly did you enter the Prince's bedroom? Did you turn into air, or fly in like a mosquito?"

Shangguan Zeyu could no longer laugh. He hesitated, wondering whether to remove the thin veil from his face and solemnly tell her that he was Shangguan Zeyu! He didn't like men!! He and Zhang Qin were only master and servant!!

Her disdainful and contemptuous smile betrayed her suppressed anger, telling herself, "No rush, no rush. He'll have plenty of opportunities to make her pay for her 'nonsense' today."
