Jiang Yan and Huang Ying were not as lucky as last time. They walked for three days without finding a single house. They were hungry and tired, and in the end, they were so weak that they could not even take a step.

"Huang Ying, do you think we're really doomed this time?" Jiang Yan lay by the roadside, gazing at the azure sky, and said with a bitter smile. Beside her, grass sprouted as tall as a thumb.

Huang Ying's lips were chapped, just like Jiang Yan's. As soon as she opened her mouth, blood oozed from the wound: "No, Master, we are good people. Good people will surely be rewarded!"

Jiang Yan scoffed, "But I've heard that 'good people don't live long, while bad people live for a thousand years.'"

“Master, don’t say that. We’ve been through so much together. If we were really doomed, we wouldn’t have waited until now.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Yan felt that Huang Ying's words made a lot of sense, and smiled: "If there were a nine-star alignment or a seven-star alignment at this time, we could leave this place. Huang Ying, if that day really comes, I will take you back to my hometown. In my hometown, you will definitely live better than here, and you will definitely be able to achieve something of your own."

“What is ‘career’? But even without a career, I want to follow you, Master. You are Huang Ying’s only family.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Yan, finding the conversation both sentimental and tear-jerking, quickly changed the subject with a smile, saying, "Huang Ying, to be honest, do you have someone you like?"

Unlike the previous times when she would blush whenever Jiang Yan asked, Huang Ying this time answered frankly, "No, really no!"

"If you don't have one, that's fine. When we get to my hometown, I'll introduce you to someone. I'll definitely introduce you to the best guy I know, how about that?"

Jiang Yan thought Huang Ying would refuse sternly as before, but this time, Huang Ying surprisingly agreed: "Okay, I'll do as you say, Master."

Jiang Yan paused for a moment, then smiled happily: "Don't worry, with just one word from you, I'll definitely treat your matter as my own!"

Huang Ying smiled knowingly at Jiang Yan.

But looking at Huang Ying's sincere smile, Jiang Yan felt an indescribable bitterness and sorrow welling up in his heart for some reason.

She didn't understand why she felt so bitter in such a joyful scene, but she forcefully suppressed the bitterness that wanted to burst out of her body.

In spring, everything comes back to life, with flowers blooming and willows turning green.

Jiang Yan and Huang Ying supported each other, swaying as they continued to walk forward. However, human will is so powerless in the face of nature's ruthlessness.

They had reached the main road, but they still hadn't made it to the other side and had fainted.

However, less than a quarter of an hour after they fainted, a luxurious carriage slowly drove up from the opposite direction.

The driver asked the woman inside, "Madam, two young ladies fainted on the road. Should we help them?"

The person inside replied coldly without hesitation, "No need."

As the coachman passed Jiang Yan and her companions, he quickened the pace of the carriage. However, just then, the wind picked up and lifted the carriage curtain, allowing the noble lady inside to catch a glimpse of them.

"Stop!" The lady exclaimed in surprise, her eyes widening almost the instant she caught a glimpse of Jiang Yan's profile.

"What are your orders, Madam?" The coachman immediately reined in the horse.

"Turn the woman in the black clothes up straight. I want to see her face."

The coachman obeyed orders and straightened Jiang Yan's face so that the lady in the carriage could see it.

"Ha! I never expected this, I never expected that I would have such a connection with her!!" The lady couldn't help but laugh in surprise.

"Madam, are you trying to save them?" the coachman asked.

The lady said to the maid sitting in the carriage, "Help carry the person in."

Jiang Yan and Huang Ying were saved once again.

When Jiang Yan opened her eyes again, she was lying on a soft bed, covered with a soft, faintly scented blanket.

She was stunned for a moment before suddenly realizing something was wrong and immediately sat up in shock. However, before she could even utter a sound, the woman said sarcastically, "Why are you so surprised? Shouldn't you greet an old friend first?"

Jiang Yan's mind hadn't processed what was happening yet. She looked over at the sound and saw a face she had seen almost every day for months.

"Consort Liu, how have you been?"

"You? How could it be...you?" Jiang Yan's mind was still blank; she couldn't think at all about what was happening before her eyes.

The lady smiled contemptuously, stirring her tea with the lid of her pink teacup, and said, "Consort Liu, you don't even greet your elder sister? It was your elder sister who kindly saved your life!"

Jiang Yan stared blankly at her, her lips moved slightly, and she said something. Wu Lanyu looked at her with a mocking smile.

"How should I put it? Why is Consort Liu still running for her life? Is life too hard for her?" As she spoke, she glanced at Jiang Yan with disdain.

Jiang Yan was no stranger to her disdainful, contemptuous, and disdainful gaze, and guessed what she was complaining about. He laughed and said, "It must be hurting Madam Wu's eyes!"

"Hmph!" Wu Lanyu snorted coldly, took an elegant sip of tea, and placed the teacup on the low table to her left. "You know that the Prince has been looking for you?"

Jiang Yan's heart skipped a beat, and her face inexplicably went numb: "You want to bring me to his side?"

Wu Lanyu laughed a few times as if she had heard a funny joke, before saying, "Who do you think you are? Dream on!"

Jiang Yan's heart slowly relaxed, but what Wu Lanyu said next made her heart uneasy again.

"I have nothing to do with the Prince's Mansion anymore!" Wu Lanyu said, looking at Jiang Yan. "You probably don't know what happened in the capital, do you?"

Jiang Yan stared at her blankly.

She gave another disdainful smile: "Indeed, in that crisis, you managed to escape alone, which shows you don't care about anyone else!" She added, "I'm already married to someone else, and I'm currently visiting my hometown with him. Saving you was just a matter of a moment's hesitation." Then she stared intently at Jiang Yan with a puzzled and confused look, as if wondering about something she couldn't understand.

Jiang Yan felt uneasy under her gaze, so he simply said, "You saved me, so ask me anything, say anything, just say it."

Wu Lanyu was very arrogant. She glanced at her and said, "Even if the prince still misses you and wants to find you, it's not a good thing for you! The prince's mansion is a mess. The people who should stay are still here. Your life back there will probably be worse than your life as a wanderer!" Then she got up, didn't look at Jiang Yan again, and left without pausing.

Jiang Yan stared intently in the direction she left, her eyes fixed on her. After a while, she closed her eyes and fell asleep again.

Jiang Yan did not see Wu Lanyu again. When she woke up after another nap, she saw Huang Ying with red eyes, lying by her bedside.

"What's wrong? Why are you crying?" Jiang Yan subconsciously assumed that Wu Lanyu had bullied Huang Ying.

"Master, thank goodness you're alright, I was so scared!" Huang Ying said, carefully helping Jiang Yan up as he tried to get up. "Madam Wu told me that you were very ill, and she was afraid..."

This Wu Lanyu is just as annoying as ever!

"How can you believe what she says? She's a liar!"

"But at least it was Madam Wu who saved us."

At this point, Jiang Yan was too embarrassed to say anything more.

Where is she? Did she give you any trouble?

"Madam Wu has left. She left us a silver note, two sets of clothes, and a letter specifically for you."

Jiang Yan was taken aback, unsure of what to think.

She found Wu Lanyu's actions quite novel, as she couldn't believe she was capable of such things. However, upon closer reflection, she realized she knew absolutely nothing about Wu Lanyu and had no way of knowing what she would or wouldn't do.

"Master, here is the letter and the banknotes."

Jiang Yan hesitated for a moment, then took it.

She didn't look at the banknotes, but read the letter first.

The letter had only two lines, which read: "Liu Ruyi, you wretch! Why did I have to meet you and save you? I refuse to accept this!! This silver note is a reward from me! Quickly kowtow to me!!! Signed, your second parent, Wu Lanyu."

Upon seeing this, Jiang Yan felt a sudden urge to cry.

Although Wu Lanyu called her a "bitch" in the letter, she actually left her some silver notes, which solved her immediate problem. Moreover, she had indeed saved her before, so she was like a second parent to her!

Thinking of this, Jiang Yan felt a mix of emotions. Who would have thought that someone who once wanted her dead in the Prince's mansion would save her in a different place?

The silver note was for one hundred taels; how extravagant!

Jiang Yan held the thin yet heavy silver note in his hand, and unconsciously fell into deep thought again.
