Chapter 6: How Didn't You Die?

Aunt Zheng's reaction made the hearts of the three adults present sink.

This doesn't seem like a case of no grudges.

"Auntie, don't try to hide it from me anymore," Zheng Feiyu said with a bitter face. "They've already come knocking on our door!"

Upon hearing the words "came to our door," Aunt Zheng's face turned deathly pale. She gripped Zheng Feiyu's hand tightly, her voice shrill: "What did you say? Zhou Ying came to our door? Wasn't she already..." dead?

How can a dead person come knocking on your door?

It was at this moment that Aunt Zheng saw the exceptionally messy mourning hall and the body of Old Master Zheng lying at the bottom of the stairs.

Jiang Lixuan observed the expression on her face, frowned and said coldly, "Zhou Ying has become a ghost and is coming to the Zheng family to take your lives, saying it's all because you owe her."

"If you want to keep hiding it and wait to die, then keep hiding it. I'm not staying to die with you."

Aunt Zheng's face turned even paler. She took a deep breath, trying to suppress her fear, but still denied it when she spoke: "What do you mean by dead or alive? I've already said, our Zheng family doesn't owe Zhou Ying anything!"

"We have no grudge against her!"

Nan Yuanman blinked, stared at Aunt Zheng, and said, "You're lying."

"No!" Aunt Zheng raised her voice, her gaze on Nan Yuanman filled with annoyance: "Yuanman! You're talking nonsense again!"

"Ah, I see!" She stood up abruptly, some color returning to her pale face. Hands on her hips, she pointed at her: "Did you come here to cause trouble again? You did the same thing before! Where's Old Man Nan? I'm going to ask him how he raises his children!"

Nan Yuanman's eyes widened: "I didn't! Don't falsely accuse me!"

Zheng Feiyu said helplessly, "Auntie, this has nothing to do with perfection, you..."

Before Zheng Feiyu could finish speaking, Aunt Zheng interrupted him, "Alright, alright, don't scare me. There are no ghosts in this world. Even if there were, I wouldn't be afraid of Zhou Ying if she came to my door!"

"Feiyu, I'm not trying to be mean, but you've gone to university, how can you still be so superstitious?"

"It's getting late, you should all go back to sleep!"

After Aunt Zheng finished speaking rapidly, she didn't give Zheng Feiyu and the others a chance to interrupt, and shooed them back to sleep.

Nan Yuanman angrily hugged the little scarecrow and turned to leave: "Good advice is useless against this damned devil! If I come to save you again next time, I'm a pig!"

"Hey! Yuanman!" Zheng Feiyu called out to her, then turned around and said reproachfully, "Auntie, Yuanman is just a child, how could you say that to her?"

Seeing Aunt Zheng's appearance, Zheng Feiyu knew he wouldn't get anything out of her. He sighed helplessly and said, "Never mind, I'll go see her off. Aunt, you think it over carefully."

He took the small coffin that Nan Yuanman had lent him and chased after him. Jiang Lixuan followed, saying, "Wait for me."

Zhang Shimian gave Aunt Zheng a meaningful look, then turned and followed her.

After they left, Aunt Zheng let out a heavy sigh, her legs went weak, and she knelt on the ground. Her eyes widened in fear as she looked around, then she clasped her hands together and murmured, "It really isn't our fault. Blame the Liu family for pretending so well. They're the ones who truly killed you. You should go find them, not me, not me..."

-

Zheng Feiyu was surprised that Nanman Yuan was small in stature but walked quite fast.

When he chased after her from the Zheng family's house, she had already run ten meters away.

"Yuanman! Yuanman! Wait a minute! I'll take you!" Zheng Feiyu called her several times before Nan Yuanman finally stopped.

Jiang Lixuan couldn't help but tease her: "Not very tall, but you run pretty fast."

Nan Yuanman retorted without hesitation: "Who's like you, with legs that are so long for nothing? To use my grandfather's words, someone like you wouldn't even be able to catch a hot bowl of shit."

Jiang Lixuan laughed in anger, grinding his teeth: "Nan Yuanman, can't you talk to me properly? I'm still your uncle!"

Nan Yuanman's face tightened: "You were the one who didn't speak to me properly first!"

Looking at the little girl in front of him with her tense little face, like a hedgehog, he seemed to see Bai Wenying's stubborn face before she left the Jiang family.

His thoughts were complicated, and he murmured softly, "Your temper is exactly like your mother's."

They're both equally stubborn and unwilling to suffer any loss.

Zhang Shimian looked at Jiang Lixuan, then at Nan Yuanman, and scratched his head. He seemed to have... forgotten something.

Escorted by three adults, Nan Yuanman returned home.

As Zhang Shimin entered the courtyard, he saw many coffins placed in every corner, and some small coffins being carved on the ground. He looked surprised and asked, "Yuanman, does your family sell coffins?"

“Yes, my grandfather was a coffin maker.” Nan Yuanman yawned and rubbed his eyes.

Zhang Shimian pondered, "No wonder..." He had sensed a faint yin energy as soon as he entered the courtyard.

"Alright, make yourselves at home. I'm going to sleep." Nan Yuanman said goodbye and went back to her small room to rest.

After tossing and turning for most of the night, she was exhausted.

Zheng Feiyu and the other two were exhausted, but they were not sleepy at all.

At this moment, Zheng Feiyu felt extremely fortunate. Luckily, his parents had left early because of company business. Otherwise, they would have been harmed by the female ghost tonight, and there would have been two more people injured.

Zheng Feiyu didn't dare go back to the Zheng family home. He found a small stool in the yard and sat down by the door to rest.

Jiang Lixuan looked at the dilapidated house and courtyard in front of him, his feelings were extremely complicated.

The courtyard looked alright from the outside, but I didn't expect it to be so dilapidated inside. The kitchen was still made of adobe bricks. At first glance, I thought it was a house from the 1980s.

Did Nan Yuanman... grow up in this kind of environment?

Zhang Shimian didn't wander around. He grabbed a small stool, sat down, and closed his eyes to rest.

The dilapidated courtyard fell silent. Neither of them noticed that in a corner not far from them, a dark shadow was crouching, its eyes fixed on them without blinking…

One night passed.

When Nan Yuanman woke up, Zheng Feiyu and the others had already left, and the small coffin she had lent him the night before was placed next to her pillow.

She didn't mind, and after carefully washing herself clean, she went to the kitchen to eat the leftovers from last night to fill her stomach before checking on her grandfather.

Open the coffin, wet the cloth, and wipe Grandpa's face.

After completing the entire process, Nanmanyuan was hungry again.

As she rubbed her rumbling tummy, pondering which house to beg for food at today, a series of noisy sounds suddenly came from outside the courtyard, as if people were arguing.

Nan Yuanman jumped off the stool, intending to open the courtyard gate to join in the fun, but bumped right into a long leg.

"Oh, you're awake?" An annoying voice came from above. Nan Yuanman looked up and her face immediately fell.

Why haven't you left yet?

Jiang Lixuan chuckled, reached out and pinched her cheek, and said wickedly, "Come back with me and I'll leave now, otherwise I'll keep bothering you."

Children's skin is delicate, and Jiang Lixuan didn't hold back, pinching her hard. Nan Yuanman gasped and slapped his hand away forcefully.

She raised her hands, the seal rubbed its face, and said just as viciously, "Then you can cling to me for the rest of your life! I'd rather die than go back with you!"

The two stared at each other, wide-eyed.

The noise from not far away grew increasingly intense.

Zhou Ying's mother, Ye Hong, threw herself at a tall, thin man in a suit who looked refined: "Liu Hanfei! Explain yourself! Why did my perfectly healthy daughter die less than half a month after marrying you?! Did you kill her?! And where is her body? Why won't you let me see her?! Why?!"

"Is it because you have something to hide? Tell me!!"

Nan Yuanman and Jiang Lixuan turned their heads to look at the same time.

Jiang Lixuan could only see the Liu and Zhou families arguing, but Nan Yuanman saw Zhou Ying, who had disappeared last night and turned into a vengeful ghost, with a ferocious expression, constantly lunging at Liu Han, but each time she lunged, she was repelled by the golden light on his body.

With each bounce, her soul grew dimmer.

Nan Yuanman frowned slightly, just as he was about to open the small coffin and take Zhou Ying in first, Zheng Feiyu and Zhang Shimian, who had also been attracted by the noise, ran over.

Zhou Ying sensed Zhang Shimian's presence, glared hatefully at Liu Hanfei, and then quickly disappeared.

Liu Hanfei was completely unaware of this. He supported the crazed Ye Hong, his face full of pain: "Mom, I am also heartbroken by Ying'er's departure, but Ying'er's departure was really just an accident."

"Zhou Ying once said that if something were to happen to her, she wanted me to cremate her and scatter the ashes at sea, because she loved freedom, which is why she has no body."

Nan Yuanman looked at the man in front of her, whose very soul reeked of stench, and a look of disgust appeared on her face. This man was lying.

Zhang Shimian and Zheng Feiyu also arrived.

Zhang Shimian felt the lingering yin energy in the air, his face darkening slightly. She had escaped again.

When Zheng Feiyu heard Liu Hanfei mention Zhou Ying's name, he looked at him scrutinizingly and asked, "What is your relationship with Zhou Ying?"

Before Liu Hanfei could speak, Ye Hong, her eyes red with emotion, rushed forward and slapped Zheng Feiyu, cursing, "You Zheng family members dare to show your faces! It's all your fault! If it weren't for you, my daughter wouldn't have died! You heartless bastards! Why don't you all die! Why wasn't it you who died!"
