Chapter 11 Garland Goes to School
Sedwick got on the hovercraft and rushed several kilometers away in the blink of an eye. Mingnuo watched it disappear from his sight and pursed his lips. He still remembered that his job was to be Sedwick's servant.
Now that he's gone, will his salary be deducted?
Mrs. Lin thought Mingnuo was reluctant to leave Sedwick, so she patted Mingnuo on the shoulder and said, "Let's go. Brother will be back this afternoon. How about you accompany me to arrange flowers today?"
Beautiful flowers?
Yay!
Ming Nuo followed Madam Lin happily. Madam Lin was very good at flower arrangement, and Ming Nuo acted as her assistant, clapping and saying "Auntie is amazing!" from time to time.
The emotional value is maximized.
Being with Ming Nuo, Mrs. Lin was in a good mood. She pinched Ming Nuo's nose and said, "It's much less troublesome than your brother."
Then he asked Elson to put the vase in Mingnuo's room. Mingnuo's room was decorated in a childlike style, with a string of lavender Phalaenopsis wind chimes hanging on the windowsill.
Mingnuo was very nervous at first and only dared to follow Mrs. Lin timidly, but after realizing that the surrounding environment was harmless, the timid lamb became bolder.
He has a good personality and looks pleasing. Everyone working in the manor likes him. Aunt Anna, who cooks in the kitchen, even gives him freshly baked cakes.
At 4:30 in the afternoon, Sedwick returned home from school. As soon as he opened his schoolbag, he heard footsteps coming from the stairs. It was Mingnuo running down in a hurry.
The corners of Sedwick's lips rose slightly. This white-haired ball still had some conscience. Knowing that he was back, he specially came to greet him.
Sedwick gives him the promised milk tea.
"Thank you." Mingnuo happily hugged the milk tea. When he saw him open his schoolbag, he suddenly put down the milk tea, turned around and hugged Sedwick's schoolbag. The two of them started to pull each other for some unknown reason.
Sedwick calmly grabbed the shoulder strap of his schoolbag, not understanding his actions. "What's got you upset?"
Ming Nuo looked at him innocently, "Didn't you ask me to be your servant? I'm just helping you."
Sedwick was silent for a long moment before he remembered this had happened, but he felt uneasy about letting Mingnuo do it, but he still loosened his shoulder straps.
As a result, Mingnuo lost his balance and fell to the ground with a thud, and the books in his schoolbag fell all over the floor.
Sedwick: "..."
Sure enough, an accident happened.
Fortunately, the floor was covered with soft carpet, so Mingnuo was not hurt at all.
Sedwick lifted Mingnuo up. After Mingnuo stood firmly, he smiled at him shyly and quickly stuffed the books on the ground into his schoolbag. After filling the bag, he said to Sedwick, "Welcome home."
Sedwick: "..."
Seeing that Sedwick wanted to get some water again, Ming Nuo immediately realized that a task had come. "I'll do it!"
After saying that, he pushed Sedwick aside and poured him a glass of boiled water. This time, nothing went wrong and the glass was handed steadily to Sedwick.
Mingnuo looked at Sedwick as if asking for a reward: "How is it?"
Do you even need to comment on a glass of boiled water? Sedwick felt he shouldn't have accepted the drink, so he just went ahead and said, "The taste of boiled water."
Ming Nuo looked expectant, "What about my salary?"
“Half.”
"Woo..." Ming Nuo's shoulders slumped, unable to face the pain of losing his salary. "Why? Can you tell me the reason? I can change it. Please don't deduct my salary, okay?"
Sedwick lifted his eyelids and glanced at him. "It depends on how you perform next."
Seeing that there was still hope for his salary, Mingnuo became confident again and followed Sedwick happily.
"I'll help you!"
"I'll do this!"
"I can do this too, I'll do it!"
Upstairs, Mrs. Lin watched Ming Nuo diligently taking care of her son with a frown on her face, feeling something was wrong. She thought about it and replaced the person doing the work with her son. Immediately, her brows relaxed and she felt it made sense.
Sedwick had homework to do, but Mingnuo still stayed at his post, sitting obediently beside him. Since he had nothing to do, he simply looked up and stared at him in a daze.
Ming Nuo saw that Sedwick also had a smart computer on his wrist. He leaned over and poked his smart computer, "Do you know where I can get my smart computer repaired? Mine seems to be broken."
Sedwick paused. "Show me."
"Can you fix it?" Ming Nuo rolled up his sleeves and showed him the smart computer on his wrist. "Look, it's been unusable. I can't even call out 566. Oh, and 566 is my smart assistant."
Sedwick immediately saw what was wrong with the intelligent brain and tactfully suggested, "Next time you go for an eye exam, why not have your brain checked?"
Ming Nuo could tell he was scolding him, and said seriously, "There's nothing wrong with my brain, and my dad said I'm very smart."
Sedwick didn't bother to argue with him. "Turn on the smart brain and do as I say."
Ming Nuo did as he was told. After a few simple steps, all the functions of the intelligent brain were unlocked.
He looked at Sedwick with admiration, as if a hopelessly illiterate person were looking at a brilliant university student. "You're amazing! How did you do that? Did you learn that in school?"
Sedwick pushed his approaching head away. "You're in the Perseus Empire, but the only signal source you've set up to connect to is the Saichuan Empire. What's going on in your head?"
Ming Nuo had no idea how to operate the intelligent computer. "I don't know either. This intelligent computer belongs to my father."
He didn't know how to use the intelligent computer, and he had no idea what the signal source Sedwick was talking about was.
Sedwick lowered his eyes to gaze at the silver-white intelligent computer and suddenly asked, "What model is this?"
"I don't know. Dad didn't tell me."
“Are you a daddy’s boy?”
Ming Nuo didn't understand, "What is a daddy's boy? Does it mean dad is baby? I do love my dad very much."
Sedwick: "..."
Seeing that he didn't say anything, Ming Nuo knew that he had probably said something stupid. He tugged at Sedwick's sleeve and said in a very reasonable manner, "If I'm wrong, you should tell me. You've been silent all this time, and I definitely don't know what you're thinking."
Sedwick pulled back his sleeve: "I don't want to talk to you."
"Okay, then I won't say anything." Ming Nuo shut up obediently.
The desk was very large, and Mingnuo only occupied a small part of it. He lay on the desk and studied the intelligent computer. After his eyes recovered, he could play the intelligent computer much more smoothly. He found a small stand-alone game and played it enthusiastically while drinking milk tea.
Sedwick was pondering a difficult problem when he suddenly heard a chuckle. He turned around and his brows immediately furrowed.
Every time he cleared a level and received a reward, this little idiot would whisper to his mentally retarded assistant, "I'm so awesome! Do you think I'm awesome?"
566 naturally enthusiastically praised the little master, "The little master is the best! Nothing can stump the little master!"
Mingnuo likes being praised very much, and his eyes turned into crescent moons when he smiled.
Sedwick glanced at his homework, then looked up at Mingnuo's game interface. He suddenly felt unhappy. Why could this person play games so happily while he was doing his homework?
"Mingnuo."
Mingnuo hummed, his eyes still glued to the enlarged virtual screen, not paying Sedwick any attention.
Sedwick: "Stop playing and go to school with me."
Mingnuo's hand trembled, and his neck turned stiffly as if rusty to look at Sedwick.
He tried to see a joke on Sedwick's face, but unfortunately, he only saw a serious expression. He pointed at himself tremblingly, "I, I go to school?"
Sedwick nodded solemnly. "Learning is a major step in human progress. Wake up, it's time for you to climb the ladder."
Like the whisper of a devil, Mingnuo's heart trembled. His concept of going to school came from a previous friend.
After being sent to a public welfare school by his parents, the little friend cried every day and told him that the teachers in the school were strict and scary, the homework assigned was as difficult as climbing to the sky, and all the classmates were bullies who not only refused to be his friend but also beat him up.
So school became a terrible existence in Mingnuo's eyes. When Mingchuan suggested that he go to school as well, Mingnuo was so scared that he cried and refused to step out of the house.
Mingchuan had no choice but to become a teacher at home and teach Mingnuo to read and write.
Now, Sedwick wanted to send him to school. Mingnuo stared at Sedwick blankly. After a long while, he whispered, "Can I not go? I don't want to go to school."
Sedwick frowned. "Have you ever been to school before?"
Mingnuo honestly said no.
Sedwick: “Illiterate.”
Ming Nuo retorted: "I'm not illiterate. My father taught me how to read."
Sedwick handed him the homework and said, "Then solve this problem. If you get it right, I won't let you go to school."
Hope ignited in Mingnuo's heart. He couldn't wait to take a look at the question. A few seconds later, the complex mathematical symbols were like a torrential rain, beating down Mingnuo's young seedling into a daze.
"I won't……"
"Then go study." Sedwick has always been a man of action. He dug out all his old basic textbooks and placed them in front of Mingnuo. "I'll help you improve your basics so that you won't be the last one in school after entering."
Ming Nuo tried to delay time, "Can we study tomorrow?"
"Can't."
Well, Mingnuo turned off the game, and the happiness disappeared completely in an instant. Sedwick was a responsible teacher, but Mingnuo was not a good student. After only a few minutes of class, Mingnuo began to doze off.
Sedwick shook him awake, put a pen in his hand, and asked him to do the exercises. Mingnuo lay down on the table reluctantly.
The warm yellow afterglow of the setting sun filled the room with warmth and comfort. Mrs. Lin walked in and watched the scene quietly. After a while, she said, "Let's go eat first."
Upon hearing this, Mingnuo smiled again and happily pulled Sedwick's sleeve and shook it, "Eat, eat. Knowledge is important, but you can't let us starve."
Sedwick was ruthless: "Continue after you finish eating."
“Woo…”
At the dining table, Mingnuo ate slowly, and raised his head quietly to see Sedwick suggesting to Mrs. Lin that he go to school with him.
"Let Nuonuo go to school together?" Mrs. Lin thought for a moment and looked at Mingnuo.
Ming Nuo prayed silently in his heart: Don’t agree, don’t agree…
"Okay."
Mrs. Lin, always a man of action, contacted the principal of Sedwick School to discuss Mingnuo's enrollment. With her status and position, she easily arranged for Mingnuo to be admitted, and Mingnuo would be able to go to school with Sedwick the next day.
Ming Nuo: “…”
Elson prepared a school bag for Mingnuo to take to school. He prepared many styles for Mingnuo and brought them to him to ask for his opinion. "What kind of school bag do you want?"
Ming Nuo was very depressed, but he still fell in love with the snow-white crossbody bag at first sight. This one was very similar to the lamb bag he lost. "I like this one."
Elson smiled and agreed. He was a thoughtful person and prepared stationery and a water cup for Mingnuo. Everything was prepared according to Mingnuo's preferences.
Seeing Mingnuo depressed, Elson comforted him, "Going to school is fun. Not only can you make new friends, but you can also work and make money after graduation."
make money?
Ming Nuo looked up at him and asked, "How much can it be?"
Perhaps not expecting Mingnuo to be so pragmatic, Elson's face was blank for a rare moment. He opened his mouth and used his own experience as a reference for Mingnuo, "I currently make 50,000 a month."
Fifty thousand?! Ming Nuo showed a longing look. Will he be able to have such a high salary in the future?
Sedwick punctured Mingnuo's fantasy, "Don't even think about it. Elson is a student at Helios College. You may not even be able to get in."
Helios Academy is the most prestigious school in the empire. Even if Mingnuo is ignorant, he has heard of its name. It is said that half of the researchers in the Imperial Armaments Research Institute and famous military generals come from this school.
But why would Elson, with such a high level of education, become a housekeeper? Ming Nuo didn't quite understand.
Elson seemed to see Mingnuo's confusion and explained, "The old housekeeper had some family matters and took leave during this period, so I am temporarily filling in. This is one of my part-time jobs."
Part-time jobs were all worth 50,000. Ming Nuo looked at Elson, a money-making expert, and had a goal in mind. He looked at Sedwick and asked seriously, "If I study hard, can I also come to your house and be a housekeeper?"
Sedwick: "..."
Elson: “…”
No, you want to usurp his throne right in front of him?
Faced with Mingnuo's overly ambitious goal, Sedwick and Mrs. Lin were silent. Mrs. Lin looked at Mingnuo, who looked exactly like her old friend, and hesitated to speak. At this moment, she doubted her judgment.
Ming Nuo was unaware of their complicated feelings. He was enjoying himself as he would become a housekeeper in the future and was thinking about how to spend his 50,000 yuan.
It was not until ten o'clock in the evening that Mingnuo was so sleepy from studying that he could not open his eyes, and Sedwick let him go back to sleep.
After Ming Nuo returned to his room, he took a shower, changed into pajamas, took off his contact lenses, got into bed and closed his eyes.
The cool eye patch relieved his tired eyes. When he woke up feeling thirsty, it was already two o'clock in the morning.
Mingnuo put on his glasses and went downstairs with his cup of water to get some.
Warm water gurgled into the cup. Ming Nuo stared at the water in a daze. Suddenly, he tilted his head. The lights in the restaurant were turned on at some point. He could hear rustling sounds and the whispers of men talking.
Could it be a thief?
Ming Nuo's heart tightened. He looked around and went to the glass greenhouse to get a pair of large gardener's shears. With a weapon in his hand, Ming Nuo felt much more at ease and walked towards the living room quietly.
In the living room, two unfamiliar young men were eating noodles with bowls in their hands. Ming Nuo hid behind the wall, sticking his little head out to look at the two strangers.
One of the young men was very handsome, with long black hair braided into a fishbone braid with a bright golden Phalaenopsis headband inserted in the braid. The ends of the hair hung on his shoulders, and his pair of affectionate peach blossom eyes always contained a faint smile.
After Garlan was cleared of the suspicion of stealing Mingnuo, Mingjue let him go. He and his adjutant rushed back to Ephi Star before the end of the holiday.
Garland ate noodles while scolding Ming Jue, "Why didn't he think of going to a mental hospital to check his brain all these years? He blames me for the child's disappearance. I'm afraid the child knew his uncle was him and ran away with the starship overnight."
The adjutant still had an honest face. "It's mainly because your attitude towards that child on the street was so abnormal. It's no surprise that Ming Jue is suspicious of us."
Garland raised his eyes to look at him. "Which side are you from? Let Ming Jue pay you."
The adjutant fell silent.
Suddenly, Garland glanced at the corner where Mingnuo was hiding and tried to signal his adjutant.
There's a little kid hiding there.
Mingnuo didn't know that his existence had been noticed by Garland. His mental power was as soft and harmless as he was, like a little lamb, running towards him bleating without any cover.
Garland was fully aware of the mental fluctuations of everyone in his family, but this mental power clearly did not belong to his family. Hearing that a college student who was working part-time had recently come to the house, he smiled and said, "Come out, let me see which kid is still awake so late."
The adjutant sitting next to him stood up and pulled Ming Nuo, who was hiding, out.
When the adjutant saw Mingnuo's face, he was shocked. He turned to look at Garland, his eyes only saying one thing: Didn't you say you didn't steal the child?!
Garland opened his mouth, his confusion visible to the naked eye.
