Chapter 68 "She...is afraid of me?"
"Mrs. Ji, Mr. Ji asked me to check you again." A gentle female voice came from outside the door.
Wen Duo was stunned.
The doctor did come, but only to examine her.
Jiang Zuiyue put down the phone and walked quickly to the door.
The door was gently pushed open, and a female doctor in a white coat walked in, holding professional examination equipment in her hands.
She was about forty years old, with a kind face and a few faint smile lines at the corners of her eyes.
"Hello, Madam Ji. I am Lin Yun, your attending ophthalmologist."
The female doctor walked to the bedside and placed the instrument on the bedside table:
"How are you feeling today? Do your eyes still sting?"
Wen Duo blinked subconsciously.
"It's better than yesterday, but I still can't see anything."
Her voice was soft, with a hint of imperceptible loss.
Dr. Lin skillfully put on the examination headlamp and gently lifted Wen Duo's chin with his warm fingers.
"I'll see how it recovers. There might be some light. Don't be afraid."
A soft light shone into Wen Duo's eyes. She instinctively wanted to close her eyes, but the doctor gently stopped her.
"Hold on, it will be fine soon."
Jiang Zuiyue stood aside, nervously watching the doctor's every move.
I woke up crying from a nightmare. This will definitely affect my recovery. I just hope it doesn’t get worse.
“The recovery wasn’t ideal.”
Doctor Lin finally spoke and turned off the examination light:
"The wound on your cornea is healing slower than expected. Have you been crying?"
Wen Duo's body visibly stiffened.
"Well, I...had a nightmare," she admitted quietly, shame etched in her voice.
Doctor Lin's expression turned serious.
"Tears can irritate the cornea and delay healing. You have to control your emotions, otherwise it will affect your vision recovery."
She paused, her tone softening. "Nightmares usually have triggers. I minored in psychology. If you're willing to talk..."
"No!"
Wen Duo almost blurted out, then realized his own mistake and lowered his voice again:
"I mean... just a regular nightmare, nothing special."
How could she tell the doctor that she dreamed that her husband Ji Huaishen imprisoned her in a room, said the most terrifying words in a gentle voice, and even broke someone's legs through the door?
Dr. Lin nodded thoughtfully and did not ask any further questions.
"Then you should pay more attention to rest and keep your emotions stable."
She began to pack up her equipment. "Continue administering the medications as normal. I'll check back tomorrow."
Just as the doctor was about to leave, Wen Duo suddenly reached out and accurately grabbed the cuff of her white coat.
"Please wait a moment!" Wen Duo said.
The doctor turned around and asked, "Madam, do you have any other questions?"
"Um..." Her voice was filled with anxious hesitation, "How is my husband's injury?"
"I don't know Mr. Ji's situation."
She answered truthfully, "I am your personal doctor, and the one who is in charge of Mr. Ji is another male doctor."
Wen Duo's fingers loosened, but did not let go completely.
"Then... could you please go see him too?"
Her voice gradually became lower and lower, almost a whisper:
"He was hit on the back by a stage light while trying to save me..."
Dr. Lin looked at the young girl huddled on the hospital bed, who was obviously scared but couldn't help but care about her husband, and a hint of tenderness flashed in his eyes.
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Ji. My responsibilities are limited to you."
She paused and added, "But I just ran into Mr. Ji in the corridor. From the looks of it, he seems to be in good spirits and should be recovering well."
Wenduo's shoulders visibly relaxed.
"That's good..." she said softly.
So, he should be fine, right?
...........
Dr. Lin gently closed the ward door and walked into the living room.
At this time, Ji Huaishen was sitting in the living room, fiddling with a lighter in his hand, looking very anxious.
Doctor Lin quickly came to Ji Huaishen and bowed:
"Mr. Ji."
"How is my wife?" he asked.
“The recovery is not ideal.”
She reported truthfully, "The cornea is healing slower than expected. My wife said she had a nightmare and her tears irritated the wound."
Ji Huaishen frowned slightly.
"Have you asked why you had the nightmare?"
Doctor Lin shook his head:
"Madam didn't say. But..."
She hesitated for a moment and continued:
"It's normal for newly blind patients to feel insecure and have nightmares."
Ji Huaishen was silent for a while.
"I understand." He responded briefly, his tone calm and almost indifferent.
But Dr. Lin noticed that the man's other hand hanging by his side had been quietly clenched, and his knuckles turned white from the force.
"And..." Doctor Lin chose his words carefully, "Madam asked about your injuries."
In an instant, a glimmer of light flashed in Ji Huaishen's eyes, like a star suddenly lit up in the dark night.
The corners of his mouth rose slightly, then quickly returned to normal.
"Well, you didn't let anything slip, did you?" he asked, with a hint of coldness in his voice.
Doctor Lin smelled a strong smell of disinfectant on him, mixed with a faint smell of blood.
"I only said you were recovering well," she replied.
Ji Huaishen nodded, obviously satisfied with this answer.
As soon as Dr. Lin left, a voice came from behind.
"No, why do I smell the wound on your body smelling stronger?"
Ji Huaishen turned his head and saw Jiang Zuiyue leaning against the handrail of the stairs, arms crossed over his chest, looking at him with raised eyebrows, asking:
"Why, did you do something bad in the middle of the night?"
Ji Huaishen did not answer immediately, but just closed the lighter lid with a "click".
After a long silence, he finally spoke:
"The power behind Lin Ya has been found, and it's a bit tricky to deal with."
Jiang Zuiyue raised her eyebrows slightly. She walked in front of Ji Huaishen and looked at him without hesitation:
"I haven't seen many people who can make you feel difficult."
"It's a branch of the Ji family—"
"Hey hey hey, stop it!"
Jiang Zuiyue immediately raised his hand to stop him, making an exaggerated gesture of rejection:
"I don't want to get involved in your family's mess!"
She said bluntly, "I came out to tell you clearly that the source of her nightmare is because of you."
Ji Huaishen's fingers suddenly tightened.
Jiang Zuiyue didn't care about Ji Huaishen's reaction at all, but continued to add:
"She was afraid of you, that's why she had a nightmare."
"She's...afraid of me?"
There was a rare hint of...confusion in Ji Huaishen's voice.
During this period of time after their marriage, he could certainly feel Wen Duo's resistance and fear.
So he gave his young wife enough time and space to slowly adapt to this marriage and his presence.
After nearly a year, his wife finally chose to accept him recently.
Everything was apparently getting better, so why did I suddenly have nightmares about him?
"What did she dream about?" Ji Huaishen asked.
Jiang Zuiyue helplessly spread his hands:
"You can think about it yourself. You must know it."
Ji Huaishen fell silent, and countless images flashed through his mind.
He has been acting normal in front of his young wife recently, except for the mirror issue.
But why has the issue of mirrors become so annoying and even scary now?
If I have to say what I have done recently, it is the matter of dealing with Lin Ya...
