Chapter 279 Down the Slope
Wen Wan had thought of everything she should have thought of. Lu Dongping sighed deeply, and followed her with his eyes and ears.
The house wasn't big to begin with. Wen Wan showed him around. "There's a small area in the back where you can grow vegetables, but it's blocked so you don't get much sunlight. The bedroom here is big enough, and the living room is large too. The kitchen is a little small, but it can be turned around. I've already planned to buy all the big things. Later, you can see if there's anything else you need, and I'll go with you to the department store. For now, live in the compound and see how my dad arranges it. Once everything is settled, if you don't like it there, you can move in. I won't need to live on campus anymore, so I'll move out. It's only about ten minutes from our school. It's just across the street from the alley, so just cross it."
Lu Dongping looked at her and smiled. He reached out and pulled her over, holding her tightly against him. They felt each other's heartbeats. Lu Dongping thought, it's worth it, really worth it, it's worth it for the rest of their lives.
The water here comes from a pressurized well, which has been used consistently, so it's not a problem right now. However, moving in here requires more than just these big things. Most importantly, Lu Dongping and Dandan need to be settled first. Wen Wan doesn't need to go there herself; she can just have Zhang Qianfeng take Lu Dongping and his father there. It's a hassle, but Wen Shihua has connections there, which can save a lot of trouble.
After breakfast on Sunday, Lu Dongping went to the Medical University to see Lu Chun'e.
Wen Shihua hadn't made any arrangements yet. His son-in-law had just arrived, and the couple needed to at least communicate and discuss things before he could take action. Arrangements had to be made, but the young man's ideas were different from his own, and he had to put his efforts into the right places.
Lu Chun'e didn't know Lu Dongping had come to the capital. She was studying medicine, and her course load was quite heavy. Plus, she was single-mindedly focused on her studies, so besides attending classes, she spent most of her time in the library. Although she was still learning theoretical knowledge, she felt that reading more related books and memorizing more of the knowledge in the books would always be a good idea.
What was she trying to achieve by going so far away from home? Wasn't it just that she wanted to change her fate through studying, make herself stronger, and be closer to that person?
She didn't know whether it would get closer or further away in the end, but now she was running for this, and there was no other way to go except to work hard.
The book in her hand was already half-read. On the steps beside her was a red leather notebook, which was densely packed with notes on the knowledge points that she had summarized and thought were more important.
She was not the smart person who had a photographic memory. It was impossible for her to remember something after just one look. She had to copy down the important things to deepen her impression, and then look at them again when she returned to the dormitory to remember them.
She was so focused that she forgot herself and didn't care about the boy next to her who was trying to get close to her under the pretext of reading a book. It wasn't until someone called her and said someone was looking for her that she came back to her senses.
She thanked the classmate who called her and hurried towards the school gate.
A man, said to be her brother, I don’t know if it’s Xu Qingming.
But who else could it be if not Xu Qingming? She didn't know anyone here, so it was impossible for anyone to say he was her brother!
Thinking of Xu Qingming, her mood suddenly improved. Her eyebrows were raised as she walked, and she couldn't suppress the joy in her eyes.
When I arrived at the school gate, I was stunned when I saw the person standing there, his face full of disbelief.
"elder brother?"
He shouted, and his steps quickened involuntarily as he came closer, his eyes sparkling with surprise and joy: "Brother, why are you here!"
Lu Dongping was also happy to see her, his eyebrows raised, his eyes full of smiles: "I came to see you. Why are you thinner? Are you short of money? You can't skimp on food."
"No, no, the school still has subsidies, which I can't use up. Maybe the pressure of studying is too great, and I still eat a lot, so I'm a little thinner than before." As he said, he looked Lu Dongping up and down: "Don't talk about me, talk about you. It's only been a few months, and you have really lost a lot of weight." His face was sunken and he looked out of shape. He was quite energetic, but I was not used to the way he looked.
Lu Dongping looked at himself subconsciously: "No!"
Lu Chun'e didn't continue the topic with him and called him, "Brother, come on, I'll take you around the school and show you around our school."
"Can I come in?"
"able."
Lu Dongping's thick eyebrows knitted together. Is this school so free to come and go? No one is in charge?
Lu Chun'e didn't know what he was thinking, and enthusiastically introduced her school to him.
"Brother, how's things at home? Are mom and dad in good health?"
Lu Dongping looked around as he walked and said, "Okay, it's fine!"
"Then, how many days can you stay this time?" Lu Chun'e asked cautiously.
Lu Dongping didn't look at her, still looking at the building not far away: "Stay here, don't leave!"
Lu Chun'e's eyes lit up: "Really?"
Lu Dongping retracted his gaze and turned to look at her: "Really, I brought Dandan with me. I'll pick you up next weekend when I have time."
Lu Chun'e said, "No, no, I can go there by myself when I have time. I can find the place. There are cars here, so it's very convenient."
The brother and sister talked as they walked, with Lu Chun'e doing most of the talking and Lu Dongping listening.
Students come and go in the school, and occasionally Lu Chun'e would run into someone she knew. She would greet the other person with a smile, and then, if she was very familiar with him, she would introduce him to Lu Dongping, and also introduce Lu Dongping to his classmates.
Lu Dongping looked around the school calmly along the way, and also looked at the students.
This is the first batch of college students in the past ten years. Their ages are mixed. There are very few young ones. Many of them look about the same age as him. There was a seed planted in their hearts early on, and now it is taking root and sprouting quietly.
He just took a walk and didn't stay too long. He didn't want to waste Lu Chun'e's time and delay her studies.
It was still early, so he was not in a hurry to go back. He left the Medical University and walked around the area.
The prosperity of the capital was something he had never seen or imagined.
From time to time, he saw cars passing by on the road, some on bicycles, and some pulling people in rickshaws. There was a direct bus from the Medical University back to the military compound, which was so convenient that it was unimaginable.
When passing an alley, he deliberately stopped to look. Several people carrying baskets were walking back and forth there, and some were squatting on the side chatting. No matter what they were doing, their eyes were all looking at the intersection.
Private transactions are still not allowed, but there are such places in the capital where people sell things secretly.
When Lu Dongping was at home, he often went to the black market in the county and was considered a veteran. He could tell what these people did at a glance.
He turned into the alley, stayed in for a while, and when he came out, he had things in both hands.
After buying things and spending money, you can probably get a rough idea of what they are worth.
The black market is something that exists wherever there are people.
It is not allowed, but there are countermeasures for every policy. People have to eat and drink, and they have to consume, so there will be a market.
He thought that everyone's needs should not only be rice, flour, meat and eggs, but also other things.
The supply of department stores is always limited.
If there is no other clue, this is a good way.
However, these were just his own thoughts, and he didn't mention them to Wen Shihua and Wen Wan. After all, being in the black market was not a glorious thing and the risks were quite high.
Before he came, Wen Wan usually went to school on Sunday afternoons. But this time, she didn't rush to school. Instead, she prepared a bag of fruit, and the couple took the child to Xu's house.
The old lady of the Xu family doesn't like Lu Dongping. It can be said that she treats him as air. Before he came, she kept relying on her seniority and pretending to be ignorant, trying to instigate Wen Wan to divorce Lu Dongping and find a suitable match in the military compound.
Wen Wan didn't mention this to Lu Dongping.
If possible, she actually didn't want Lu Dongping to go there and be looked down upon, but since he had come all the way here, she had to go and see him, after all, he was her elder.
The most important thing is that the Xu family has never seen Dandan. They live in the same compound, so they will run into him sooner or later. As a junior, it is natural for me to visit them first.
It was a rare Sunday when Xu Guoan and his wife were both there.
Zhou Ping sat on the sofa, knitting a sweater and chatting with the old lady. Xu Guoan was reading a newspaper with glasses on, holding a pen in his hand, occasionally scribbling on the paper as if taking notes.
The nanny and the old lady at home sat together with a two or three-year-old child. That was the little girl from the sixth child Xu Qingyan's family. She was just three years old and was very pretty and adorable.
The door was opened by the family's nanny. Zhou Ping put down her work and went out when she heard the sound. She was startled to see the family of three, and then she laughed out loud: "It's Dongping, he's here, and he brought the child with him! He's grown so big! He's growing so well. Come on, don't stand at the door, come in quickly!"
Wen Wan was carrying the things, and Lu Dongping was holding Dandan, following behind her.
Wen Wan taught Dandan: "That's your aunt, Dandan, you have to say hello to her."
Dandan was not afraid of strangers. After Wen Wan taught him, he looked at Zhou Ping and started shouting.
Zhou Ping was so happy that she took the thing from Wen Wan's hand and stretched out her hand to burst him out: "Oh, what a baby, it looks so good, come here, let your aunt hold it!"
Dandan glanced at Lu Dongping, and Lu Dongping nodded at him: "That's my aunt."
After confirming, Dandan reached out and threw himself into Zhou Ping's arms, but there was still nervousness in his eyes as he looked at Wen Wan and Lu Dongping from time to time.
Wen Wan called out to Xu Guoan, "Uncle!"
Lu Dongping also greeted him, and then greeted Mrs. Xu: "Grandma."
The old lady still pretended to be deaf and dumb and said nothing, but her eyes fell on Dandan who was in Zhou Ping's arms.
Wenwan glanced at Lu Dongping quietly with an apologetic look.
Xu Guoan called out, "Dongping, let's go. It's a rare opportunity for you to come here, let's go play a couple of games."
Lu Dongping doesn't know how to play chess, but that doesn't mean he won't take advantage of the situation and retreat using the ladder provided by Xu Guoan.
