Chapter 286: Let Him Have Some Peace for a Few Days

Chapter 286: Let Him Have Some Peace for a Few Days

It was still early when she got home. The mung beans she had soaked in the morning had swelled up. She added water and put them in a pot to slowly cook. Then she washed the clothes she had taken off when she took a bath the night before.

After washing the clothes, I went to the kitchen to cook and hang out to dry before going back to the house to clean up.

She was on vacation, but others still had to work. Lu Chun'e probably had an exam in the next two days, and after she finished her exams, Wen Wan planned to ask her to stay in the compound for a few days.

The house was cleaned up and the food was almost dry. The sun had completely set, leaving only a hint of red light on the western horizon.

Wen Wan looked at her watch. It was already past seven o'clock, but Lu Dongping still hadn't come back.

I've been on time for nearly two months, but this is the first time I'm still not home this late. The Public Security Bureau has a mission, are they dispatched?

She wondered why not stop waiting and eat first?

Just as I was thinking about it, there was a knock on the door, and Lu Chun'e's voice rang out outside: "Sister-in-law, open the door, I'm back!"

Wen Wan hurried out of the house to open the door. Lu Chun'e was carrying her bedding roll on her back. Her hands were full and her forehead was covered with sweat.

Wen Wan quickly took the things she was holding: "You finished your exams today too? Why don't you wait and ask your brother to pick you up? It's so hot, and you're carrying so many things." As she said that, she went into the house, piled all the things in her hands in one place, and came back to sort them out.

"It's okay. It's not a lot. I can catch a car right at the school gate. Plus, I was lucky today. I didn't even have to wait for a car when I left the house. I just happened to meet someone I know and got a ride."

Lu Chun'e took the bedding roll to her room. When she came out, Wen Wan was no longer in the living room. She scooped water for her outside: "Wash your face first to cool it down. You can take a shower after dinner."

Lu Chun'e squatted down and splashed some cold water on her face. She felt the heat dissipate immediately and felt much better. "Where's my brother? Is he going to night school?"

Wen Wan went into the kitchen to serve the food: "No, he hasn't come back yet! It's already this late, let's not wait for him, let's eat first."

Lu Chun'e wrung out the towel to wipe the water off her face, then poured the water from the basin into the house. After sitting down at the table, she asked, "Is there some urgent task?"

Wen Wan couldn't explain it clearly, but a place like the Public Security Bureau couldn't be idle all the time, so it seemed pretty close.

After dinner, Lu Chun'e went to wash the dishes. The aunt and sister-in-law stood against the wall at the door to digest the food. Wen Wan became interested and taught Lu Chun'e some movements to stretch her body. Well, this weather was not very suitable for exercise. After moving for a while, she was sweating all over.

After taking a shower and changing into the nightgown made by Wen Wan, she felt a little better. Lu Dongping had not come back yet so late, and Wen Wan was not in a hurry to go to bed. The two of them collapsed on the sofa, swatting mosquitoes and chatting.

"I've packed up everything. Tomorrow, you should wash and air out the things you brought back. After we pack up, let's go back to the compound and stay there for a few days."

Lu Chun'e hesitated for a moment: "I won't go over, right?"

"So what do you have to do here? Your brother has to go to work during the day, and you're alone at home. Let's go over there and take Dandan to play for a few days. And the main thing is about that department store thing we mentioned earlier. I have some connections, so I should be able to go there. Anyway, give it a try. If it works, it's fine. If not, it doesn't matter. Anyway, by next year, we may not have it as easy as we do now. After four years of college, by the sophomore year, they have learned some basic knowledge, so it's time to think about internships."

Wen Wan's eyes lit up as she spoke. "Although this is just a small venture, if it really succeeds, it will be an industry that belongs to us, no matter how big or small it is, that's what it means, right? Whether we become doctors, accountants, or something else in the future, at least now we are doing what we love and making something of value out of it. Think about it, doesn't it feel very meaningful?"

Lu Chun'e was convinced: "Okay, then I'll pack up tomorrow and go over tomorrow afternoon when it's cooler. I'll leave my brother at home alone and let him have some peace and quiet for a few days."

Wenwan laughed.

After talking for a while, Wen Wan couldn't stand it any longer. It was past nine o'clock, and Lu Dongping still hadn't come back. She yawned and said with tears in her eyes: "Chun'e, go to sleep. You don't know when your brother will be back. Don't stay up any longer."

Having gotten used to the routine, Lu Chun'e couldn't stay up too late, so she got up and went back to the house.

Wen Wan didn't want to go into the house, but the mosquitoes in the living room were too rampant and there was no way to kill them all. In the end, she compromised and decided to go to bed and wait. At night in this season, it was impossible to survive without a mosquito net.

When Lu Dongping came back, she was already leaning against the bed, half asleep. She had bolted the door for safety. Lu Dongping couldn't get in, so when he knocked on the door, she woke up with a start. She ran out in her slippers and called out, "Dongping?"

Lu Dongping responded, and she dared to open the door.

"Why did you come back just now? Do you have a mission at the bureau?"

"Um!"

Lu Dongping responded and wanted to hug her, but he was sweating again. Wen Wan didn't care and hugged his arm and walked into the house: "Wipe your face first, I'll go get you some food."

"No, I can do it myself. You can go to sleep. It's already late."

Wen Wan was confused for a while, but now she was a little sober and leaned against the head of the bed waiting for him.

After Lu Dongping finished his meal and washed up, he went to bed. She hadn't fallen asleep yet, so she hugged his arm and nuzzled him, saying, "Chun'e is on vacation too. I plan to pack up tomorrow and go back to the compound for a few days."

Lu Dongping responded, "I've been busy these past few days, so I won't be back on time. You guys can stay there for a few days. Keep an eye on Dandan. Just stay in the compound. Don't take him with you when you go out; it's too hot."

While talking, he was stroking Wenwan's hair, just like stroking a puppy's fur. Wenwan felt so comfortable that she fell into a deep sleep.

Lu Dongping couldn't hold on for long as he was on patrol continuously throughout the day, especially in the afternoon. He ran almost all over the city without even having time to catch his breath. He was now extremely exhausted.

When Wen Wan woke up in the morning, it was already bright outside and Lu Dongping was no longer at home.

When she opened her eyes, she was still a little confused, thinking about what Lu Dongping said last night about being very busy recently, and then she slowly sat up.

Lu Chun'e got up early. Not only did she make breakfast, she also washed clothes and sheets. She did a lot of things without making enough noise to wake Wen Wan up. She is really a thoughtful girl.

After breakfast, when the sun was overhead and it was noon, Wen Wan took out a bag she had packed yesterday afternoon and said, "Chun'e, I'm going out for a while."

Lu Chun'e poked her head out of the room: "Where are you going? I'll go with you?"

"No, just go to the alley. I'm going to see a classmate of ours, Li Laiyu, whom you met last time. She's going back to her hometown tomorrow, so I'll go see her."

Having said that, he went out with his bag.

The sun was extremely strong at this time. Even with a sun hat on, one could still feel the pain through a layer of clothes. Wen Wan thought that Li Lai Yu should be at home at this time.

The two people lived not far from each other, but Wen Wan still came here when she was helping Li Lai Yu find a house. Later, when Li Lai Yu moved out of the dormitory, she did not ask for anyone's help. She was really a cold and independent girl.

The courtyard Li Laiyu rented was larger than Wen Wan's. It had several main rooms, a porch, and a large courtyard. The owner had fled abroad a few years ago, and the place was expropriated and left vacant, falling into disrepair. Wen Wan hadn't initially been interested, but Li Laiyu had. Wen Wan could only help inquire and make connections, but the rest was Li Laiyu's own doing. Unbeknownst to her, Li Laiyu hadn't rented the place but had bought it outright.

Buy a house, especially a house in the capital. Even if it is shabby, it must be worth some money. Wen Wan also has money, but she has never thought about buying a house.

At this moment, she was just marveling at Li Laiyu's ability. This house was really tidied up by her in such a short time. For a girl like her, it was really amazing.

The courtyard wall has been renovated, but because of the difference between the old and new, a new layer of cement was scraped on the outside. I don't know where she found the time, but she also left lines after scraping the cement. From a distance, it doesn't look like cement, but more like blue bricks piled up again.

You can only see the walls and the roof from the outside. You have to go inside to know what's inside.

Wen Wan was just about to knock on the door when she heard a meow from the courtyard wall. A chubby black cat climbed on the top of the wall and looked at her, its round eyes full of vigilance, and then it called out again.

Before Wen Wan could knock, the courtyard door was pulled open. Li Laiyu stood in the courtyard and looked at her. "Wen Wan?" As he spoke, he looked up at the bright sun in the sky. Wasn't she afraid of the sun? Why did she come here at this time?

Wen Wan smiled at her with a smile on her face. "I haven't been here since you packed up this place and moved in. I'm going back tomorrow, so I thought I'd come over and take a look. It was a bit presumptuous of me not to tell you in advance."

Li Laiyu stepped aside and said, "Come in and talk. I don't care about whether it's impolite or not." She just liked quietness. She was more free to do whatever she wanted and felt more relaxed when she was alone.

Wen Wan followed her into the yard and was immediately stunned.

Let’s not talk about the house for now, the whole yard is tidy and clean.

Except for the aisle, there are platforms made of bricks and cement on both sides. Flowers are planted in the corners, and the rest of the place is full of vegetables, beans, tomatoes, and peppers, which are very pleasing to the eye.

The black cat jumped down from the wall and walked into the house in a square step before them.

Li Laiyu called Wen Wan into the living room and brought her a stool. "I wanted to invite you over to sit down, but I didn't have enough time. I only had time to clean up the yard, and I haven't done much in the house yet. I might have to wait until next semester."

This was really not easy. Li Lai Yu took the initiative to speak, and he said such a long thing right away.
