Chapter 72 The Educated Youth Arrived
The other person was a woman in her thirties. If Lu Dongping hadn't been afraid of causing trouble, he would not have grabbed Wen Wan's bag, but would have directly knocked the person to the ground and dragged her out.
The other party was caught red-handed but was not afraid at all. Instead, he bit him back with a righteous look: "Hey, what are you doing? Why are you grabbing a girl's bag? Do you want to steal or rob her? Rob her!" The high-decibel voice hurt people's ears.
Wen Wan turned around with the things she had bought: "Robbery, who is robbing?"
A group of people surrounded Lu Dongping and her. She looked puzzled and called out to Lu Dongping with a smile, "Hurry up, help me hold it. I heard someone shouting 'robbery'. It would be troublesome if someone robbed me."
Lu Dongping almost couldn't hold it in anymore and took the thing from her hand. The woman saw that something was wrong and took the opportunity to slip away.
The people who were surrounding him and preparing to catch the bad guy now realized that there was no robbery, they just knew him!
Lu Dongping didn't hold back and said directly, "Does anyone know the woman who just shouted robbery? Be careful, she's a thief. She just reached into my girlfriend's backpack and bit me when I caught her."
After he finished speaking, the already noisy crowd suddenly exploded.
"Is he a thief?"
"He looks quite respectable, but it turns out he has some issues with his conduct."
Lu Dongping was too lazy to listen to their chatter, so he took Wen Wan and squeezed out of the crowd with his things. It was much easier to get out than to squeeze in.
After squeezing out, Wen Wan was still curious about the stealing he mentioned: "Did someone steal something just now?"
"Correction, someone just stole your things!"
Lu Dongping put the basin in his hand on the ground. It was quite heavy. There was a bowl in the basin, and cloth of several colors was piled on top.
Wen Wan's eyes widened, and she reached into her pockets to feel around. The money and tickets were still there.
Lu Dongping reminded her: "Bag, your backpack was just touched."
Wen Wan took off her backpack, opened it, took a look at it, tied it up again, and put it on her back again: "There's only a handkerchief and two hand pockets in the bag, nothing else. This thief doesn't seem very smart. Who would put valuables in a backpack? They're not stupid."
Lu Dongping touched his back teeth and suddenly couldn't say a word.
I squatted down and looked at what she bought. There were a lot of cloths, thin and thick, in several colors.
"What are you going to do with all this cloth?"
"It's not much! This cloth doesn't require a ticket. My aunt will definitely be very happy if I take it back."
Lu Dongping raised his eyebrows and glanced at her: "Didn't you buy it for yourself?"
Wen Wan shook her head: "I don't need cloth for the time being. This is bought for your family." She had cloth coupons and could buy them at any time, but Lu Dongping's family didn't have any. The clothes worn by the people in the family and the quilts on the beds looked like they had been there for a long time and could no longer be used.
Cloth coupons were a scarce commodity. A family in the mountains could only scrape together enough cloth for one set of clothes in a year. With so many people in the family, it was a real problem to decide who to give the cloth to. So, even if she had no common sense, she knew that this cloth, which she could buy without coupons, was definitely a good thing. If she bought it, she would be happy to give it to Zhang Hongying. If she didn't want it, she could use it herself, sell it to someone else, or make something for herself.
Lu Dongping asked her, "Are those basins and bowls also bought for the family?"
Wen Wan nodded affirmatively. She already had a basin, which she bought when she came here. One bowl would be enough for her. Why did she need so many?
Lu Dongping sighed deeply, took a bag, put all the things in it, and asked her, "Aren't you going to see the radio? It's over there."
Wen Wan ran over excitedly.
What’s sold here is not only radios, but also two sewing machines and a bicycle, all rare items.
The handlebars and wheels of the bicycle were wrapped again and again, and were placed there like treasures.
Wen Wan glanced at the radio on the shelf at the back and called out to the salesperson, "Hello, can I take a look at that radio?"
The saleswoman was a woman, a young woman, but she would not treat me well just because she was pretty and had a soft voice. On the contrary, she would be even worse to me.
"What are you looking at? Do you have a ticket? Do you have money? Can you afford to pay for it if it breaks?"
Wen Wan pursed her lips as she looked at her displeased. She pulled the radio ticket and money from her pocket and slammed them on the counter with great force. "You say I can afford it or not? What's your attitude, comrade? There are those big words hanging outside, and this is how you serve the people? I'm going to report this to your leader. Having someone of your caliber working as a salesperson is a disgrace to places like department stores!"
The salesperson looked at the ticket and money she took out and reached out to take them: "Why didn't you tell me you had the ticket earlier?"
Wen Wan was faster than her. She was usually so slow but now she was so quick that Lu Dongping was slightly shocked. He reached out and grabbed the money and ticket and stuffed them into his pocket, snorting twice: "Sorry, I was going to buy them, but with your attitude, I'm not in the mood to buy them." After that, he ignored the salesperson's face, glanced around, and finally landed on the sewing machine next to him.
She wanted to take a look at this again, but thinking about the arrogant attitude of the salesperson just now, she decided to talk about it later. After all, she really couldn't afford it at the moment, so she shouldn't do anything without confidence.
He glanced around and called out to Lu Dongping, "Are you going to buy anything else?"
Lu Dongping said, "I don't have anything to buy. Do you want to look around a bit more?" He came to help mail the package and see if the little girl wanted to buy anything. The little girl looked confused and usually soft, but when she spoke, she was quite bold.
Wen Wan's interest in shopping had faded. She shook her head and said, "No, let's go back. You can still do some work when you get back." Then she sighed, "Take me to the city, and my ten-day leave is gone."
Lu Dongping laughed and resisted the urge to rub her head. He took her out of the department store, got the car, tied the snakeskin bag in his hand to the shelf at the back, put it aside, and drove her out of the city.
While riding his bike, he asked Wen Wan, "You went to the countryside to join the team and you brought the radio ticket with you?" That thing is not easy to get. What kind of family is this that they would let a little girl bring such a difficult thing to the mountains.
Now that it's out, there's no need to hide it. Wen Wan sat in the back, swinging her legs comfortably as she said, "My uncle sent it to me. I used to have one, but it wasn't easy to ship. He said he was using that one, so he gave me a ticket and I can buy it whenever I want."
Lu Dongping said: "Besides the ticket, the price of that thing is not cheap either."
"Well, it's about forty or fifty." So she had no intention of buying it now.
Too eye-catching and not practical.
I work all day long and come home so tired that I want to sleep as soon as I hit the bed. How can I have the leisure time to listen to music or sing?
She didn't buy a radio, but she thought it would be better to buy a sewing machine, which would be more practical. However, that thing also required a ticket, which she didn't have.
Even if she had one, she couldn't buy it. Where would she put it? Her room might not be hers alone soon.
Thinking of this, she suddenly woke up, reached out and tugged at the corner of Lu Dongping's clothes and called out to him: "Lu Dongping, today is March 12th!"
Lu Dongping nodded: "Yeah, what's wrong?"
"You said there would be more educated youth coming in the spring, so that's coming soon, right?"
"No, why are you so concerned about this?" He figured it would be soon, just a matter of a few days. He was busy dating and didn't want to take on any responsibility, so he didn't ask any more questions.
Wen Wan puffed out her cheeks and said, "I've never lived with anyone before, so I'm a little nervous."
"Lu Dongping, is there a carpenter on the team?"
Lu Dongping turned his head and glanced at her. The car swayed, but he held on to it again and continued walking steadily. "What do you want to see a carpenter for?"
"I want a box to put things in. It will feel safer if I lock it."
"Okay, big box, I'll find it for you when we get back."
Wen Wan was instantly happy, reaching out to pull his shirt and shaking it gently: "Lu Dongping, you are so nice!"
Lu Dongping smiled: "Is that all? You're so easy to coax! It will be even better in the future."
The two of them were chatting and laughing, as if the distance from the county town to the commune was not as far as before, and they arrived there in no time.
As soon as he arrived at Ganling Commune, he saw a large group of people on the roadside below the People's Commune from a distance. Lu Dongping was sharp-eyed and seemed to see an acquaintance, his uncle, Lu Minghai.
Lu Dongping's eyelids suddenly twitched wildly, and he had a bad feeling. He wondered if he could pretend not to see it, return the borrowed car tomorrow, and leave now.
Wen Wan pulled him aside, looked ahead curiously, and asked him, "Why are there so many people here? What are they doing?"
"Shh! Don't say anything. Pretend you didn't see anything. We'll go across the street and take you home first. We'll come back later to return the car."
The idea was good, but unfortunately, the car was seen just as it turned around. Lu Minghai's roar came from behind: "Lu Dongping, where are you running to, you bastard? Come back here!"
Lu Dongping felt a little pain in his teeth, sighed, resigned himself to his fate, turned around again, and pedaled the bike, and it rolled over.
A huge crowd of people, each carrying bags large and small, with their hands full, are all young people in their seventeens, eighties, and early twenties. What's there to understand with this scene? Here they come, another batch of educated youth has arrived.
"Uncle, the people are here!"
Wen Wan jumped out of the car and called out, "Uncle Minghai."
Lu Minghai nodded in agreement, then turned to continue talking to Lu Dongping: "They're here, aren't they arriving in the next few days? There are a lot of people this time, with seven of us on the team—"
"There are so many, so please choose carefully, and choose someone who can work and is easy to use. I have something else to do, so I'll be leaving first."
Lu Minghai felt like hitting someone: "What's your problem? What else do you want to do? Why are you complaining? It's already been done. What else do you want to do? If you don't have anything to do, let's go together. Isn't Wen Wan also going back to the educated youth site? By the way, you two can bring her back to me."
Lu Dongping said, "I still need to return a car, and there are some things to do in the commune."
Lu Minghai raised his foot and feinted: "Stop whining and playing tricks on me. Today is Sunday, what do you have to do? Go return the car quickly, hurry up!"
