He held up the fish in his hand and said, "Look what I brought back."
Su Yuhe was surprised: "Where did this fish come from?"
"The water level dropped, and the fish in the river fell into the fields and didn't return. There were so many fish, and every family caught a few and took them home."
"It's really good." Su Yuhe looked at the fish, which was quite large, weighing more than three pounds. She said, "Let's have some sweet and sour fish tonight."
"Okay, I'll go clean it up." Jiang Lin went back to the kitchen to get a knife and a piece of wood that had been placed outside for killing chickens and ducks.
Jiang Lin was processing the fish in the yard.
Su Yuhe moved a bench and sat over: "Have you killed all three?"
"Leave two in the water." Jiang Lin glanced at Su Yuhe, who was wearing a thin long-sleeved shirt. "Go inside. The wind is a bit strong."
"It's okay. I'm dressed enough. How's it going out there today?"
"It's not as urgent as it was a few days ago, but the flood is quite severe this time. There's still a lot to do and it won't be finished anytime soon. How's your family doing?"
Su Yuhe paused, thought about it, and then told the story.
Jiang Lin frowned: "Next time you encounter this kind of thing, just ignore it. Whose family is this?"
Su Yuhe shook her head: "I wasn't outside, so I didn't see anyone. I don't think Grandpa Shi and the others would recognize him either."
The two talked in low voices.
A gust of wind blew, and a few leaves fell from the tree in the yard, landing on Jiang Lin's shoulders.
Su Yuhe went over to pick away the yellow fallen leaves for Jiang Lin, and found some weeds on Jiang Lin's body, so she pulled them away as well.
Ye Yunshu looked at them at the door of the main hall, her eyes a little warm, and said to the old lady: "This young couple has a really good relationship. Brother Lin has finally made it through."
The old lady said: "Yes, I will have the face to explain to your father when I see him in the future."
