Chapter 63 Spring Blossoms - Epilogue

Chapter 63 Spring Blossoms - Epilogue

Zhao Xuan carefully stored Lao Dao's belongings in the warehouse.

She still hadn't quite gotten used to the fact that Lao Dao was gone. She would occasionally scoop out two extra cans of rice for the rice, and by the time she remembered, the rice had already been rinsed clean.

The two of them took good care of Lao Dao's few acres of rice. With last year's experience, both Lu An and Zhao Xuan are now very good at growing crops.

Springtime that year seemed uneventful. Zhao Xuan busied herself picking things in the mountains, like a busy bee. The things she picked were the same as last year: various bamboo shoots, various mushrooms, as well as various herbs and wild vegetables. Sometimes she could even bring back a pocketful of wild fruits.

The dried mushrooms and bamboo shoots were being dried continuously, with both families working together to dry the goods efficiently. More and more kerosene cans were being filled and neatly stacked in the warehouse for Zhao Xuan.

Zhao Xuan and Lu An returned to the quiet companionship they had last year. Without Lao Dao's voice, the house sometimes felt too quiet for Zhao Xuan.

But life goes on.

By late spring, the bamboo shoots had stopped growing very long, and those that hadn't been dug up could grow into bamboo groves taller than a person in just a few days. The sun had been shining for several days in a row, drying out the mushrooms in the mountains, making them unworthy of harvesting. Some wild vegetables were still growing, but Zhao Xuan was already tired of them; she had started picking the small greens from the garden and discarded the wild vegetables without hesitation.

In his spare time, Zhao Xuan would still go into the mountains to collect some medicinal herbs.

As the weather gets warmer, Zhao Xuan and Lu An used to love sitting in the yard in winter, eating and basking in the sun. But these past few days they've been avoiding the sun.

Several solar terms have passed in the perpetual calendar, and summer is just around the corner.
