It seems everyone has unconsciously gotten used to the lively atmosphere, but as soon as the old man returned, everything went back to normal. In order not to annoy the old man, Yi Yi also started to speak in a high-pitched voice and stopped hopping around when walking. In less than three days, Yi Yi was already starting to feel the urge to speak.
At the dinner table that day, Yi Yi kept her head down, picking at the rice in her bowl. The old man was sitting right across from her, and she was so intimidated that she didn't dare look up for a moment, not even daring to pick up any food. If it weren't for Mu Nanxun frequently putting some ribs or fish on her plate, she wouldn't have been able to finish a whole bowl of rice with her head down.
"I'm taking Yi Yi out this afternoon."
Just as he was shoveling the last mouthful of rice into his mouth, Mu Nanxun suddenly spoke.
Yi Yi's eyes lit up, and she blinked, her excitement and joy barely concealed. This excitement did not escape Mu Nanxun's notice. He smiled, knowing that this girl had been cooped up for days and wanted to get out and have some fresh air.
Before the old man could reply, Xia Bingqing cautiously said, "Brother Xun, I want to go with you too..."
"Ahem... Xia family girl..." The old man coughed twice, interrupting Xia Bingqing, "How has your father been lately? By the way, I haven't seen your father and your brother for several years. We almost became family, and I haven't visited them since I came back. It's really not right. Why don't you arrange a time for us to meet somewhere and catch up?"
"This... Uncle Mu, I..."
"If you don't want to, then forget it. After all, we're not family anymore, and it's kind of awkward to sit together like this."
The old man said that on purpose.
Xia Bingqing quickly put down her chopsticks and shook her head repeatedly in denial.
"No, Uncle Mu, although Xun and I had some misunderstandings, we are still family. I'll call my dad and brother right now and tell them that I know a pretty good Japanese restaurant, let's go eat there."
"Japanese food, hahaha, not bad, I'll learn from you young people and try it out." As he spoke, the old man glanced at Mu Nanxun, his face darkening. "What are you still standing here for? Didn't you want to leave? Do you want me to send someone to carry you out?"
Mu Nanxun was already used to the old man's unpredictable temper and loud voice. He wiped his mouth, took Yi Yi's hand, got up, and walked out of the courtyard.
Once outside the courtyard and out of the old man's sight, Yi Yi was as excited as a wild horse, even her breathing became much easier and bolder, and she practically skipped every step she took. If Mu Nanxun hadn't been holding her back, she would have flown to heaven.
"Ahem, the old man's eyes and ears are still here. He saw everything you did just now," Mu Nanxun said, feigning seriousness and putting on a stern face.
Just as Yi was about to spread her arms and shout to release her emotions, she instantly wilted upon hearing this. She retracted most of her step and, mimicking the manners of so-called refined ladies, took small, hesitant steps forward, her face contorted in a pained expression.
"Mumu, Uncle Mu wouldn't have had someone watching us all this time, would he? What if, while I'm eating heartily, a man in black suddenly appears, snatches my food, and writes it down in his notebook, noting the time and place, and how Yi Yi ate so rudely without any regard for her image?"
And what if, if I accidentally take a big step, another man in black jumps out and breaks my leg with a 'smack'? What if, what if?
