Just as Yi Yi felt the pain was about to make her faint, a tearing sensation coursed through her body, burning her so intensely it felt like it would incinerate her. A moment later, the heat subsided, and her breathing became easier. The darkness outside seemed clearer to Yi Yi than daytime. Her fiery red tail swayed behind her, her skin remained as white as ever, but her nose and ears had become pointed, resembling a combination of human and fox.
It's strange, really. This species isn't quite human, nor is it quite fox. It possesses characteristics of both. However, Yi Yi has always considered itself superior to humans, at least in terms of lifespan.
It is said that humans have been pursuing the method of immortality for thousands of years. If they knew that there were spirit foxes in the world, they might have captured them all for research.
This is also why the elder foxes in the tribe forbid them from escaping the jungle and coming to the human world.
After revealing her true form, the pain on Yi Yi's finger instantly lessened and began to heal rapidly.
Night fell, and all was quiet. Now was the time.
Yi opened the window quietly. She had already noticed during the day that about five meters directly in front of this window, there was a clump of fir trees that was slightly shorter than the floor above but very dense.
If she can successfully enter the fir thicket, she should be able to evade the bodyguards' eyes.
Yi stood on the windowsill, her toes propelling her forward, and she leaped nimbly into the fir thicket. She landed on a leafy branch and then darted swiftly through the row of fir trees. Soon, her figure receded into the darkness until it disappeared completely.
At that moment, the two bodyguards on duty downstairs saw her simultaneously in the dim light.
Bodyguard A froze, rubbing his eyes in disbelief. He thought he had just seen a dazzling red flash, disappearing into the night at incredible speed. It was only for a fleeting moment. In the blink of an eye, there was nothing left.
"Hey, did you... see anything just now?" Bodyguard A nudged Bodyguard B with his elbow, looking confused.
Bodyguard B let out a burp, finally recovering from his shock. "You...you saw it too?"
"How about we say it together?"
“Okay, I’ll count to three. One, two, three…” Bodyguard B counted.
Then, the two of them spoke at the same time.

Yi Yi's inner monologue: You all better explain yourselves clearly! I, a dignified spirit fox, am nothing like a cat! Cats are animals we spirit foxes keep as pets, okay? We wouldn't even consider them as mounts—they're too weak!
Bodyguard A's eyes lit up. "We're really on the same page. It seems it really is a cat."
“I think so too. Hiccup~ No, but why is the cat red, and so big, and running so fast? Do you think the people inside might be up to something?” Bodyguard B hesitated. “Should we…should we go and report to the master and young lady?”
"Are you stupid?!" Bodyguard A slapped B hard. "I'm asking you, are we allowed to drink while on duty?"
"Of course not."
"What would happen if the master found out we were drinking?"
Bodyguard B suddenly realized, "Then we definitely can't be let off easily."
"That settles it then. I've never seen anyone as stupid as you, betraying your own people."
