Mu Nanxun followed behind Jiang Shanshan, walking side by side. Walking with Jiang Shanshan meant she wouldn't make any rash moves. And even if there was an ambush, it would be easier to escape.
At first, the passageway was spacious and well-lit, enough for two people to walk side by side. But it became increasingly narrow as they went further in, until gradually they could only walk one after the other. Jiang Shanshan's pace quickened.
Mu Nanxun kept a close eye on the movements around him at all times, never daring to relax his guard.
"Whoosh whoosh whoosh..."
Several arrows suddenly flew swiftly from the front towards them. Jiang Shanshan was walking in front; to be precise, the arrows were aimed at her head.
"ah--"
Jiang Shanshan turned pale with fright, covered her head, and stood there rooted to the spot.
Mu Nanxun swiftly threw the dagger in his hand, which caught one of the arrows. Then, he leaped forward and kicked away another arrow, catching the third with his right hand.
All three arrows were intercepted, and Jiang Shanshan was not injured.
"alright."
After a long while, Jiang Shanshan finally lowered her hand with trembling hands. Seeing that she was still alright, she couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
"That was close! I almost died. Grandma was really something, why didn't she tell me there were hidden weapons in this passage!"
"You didn't know?" Mu Nanxun raised his eyebrows in confusion, then thought for a moment, "That's true. If you knew, you wouldn't have walked ahead of me."
The arrowhead was clearly coated with poison, intended to kill anyone who intruded. It's unclear what mechanism they accidentally triggered. Fortunately, the mechanism wasn't particularly sophisticated, allowing them to easily dodge it.
After this incident, Jiang Shanshan refused to move forward any further.
"You...you go by yourself, I don't want to go. If I go any further in, I'll die."
"No, as long as you continue to lead the way, I can guarantee your safety."
If Jiang Shanshan doesn't go, Mu Nanxun will be completely lost here. Without her, he really won't be able to get the key.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Shanshan shook her head repeatedly, "I don't believe it. We were just lucky. Who knows what else is inside? Grandma never told me there were such terrifying traps inside. I don't care, I don't want to go in. You go if you want, I'm going back."
"return!"
Jiang Shanshan ignored her, turned around, and ran outside.
Mu Nanxun frowned, raised the arrow he had just grabbed, and threw it in the direction Jiang Shanshan had fled.
The arrow was planted in the ground an inch in front of Jiang Shanshan.
Jiang Shanshan paused, turned around and stared at him with a sob in her voice.
"What exactly do you want? I don't want to die. Besides, I am... I am the future leader of the Spirit Fox Clan. If you kill me, our entire clan will never let you go..."
"I need you to lead the way," Mu Nanxun said firmly. "As long as you lead the way, I will guarantee your safety. But... if you desert your post, the next arrow will pierce your heart."
Jiang Shanshan looked at her with a mournful face, glanced behind her, then at the arrows at her feet, turned around angrily, and walked back to Mu Nanxun.
"I'm scared of you. Is it really worth it? You'd risk your life for Yi Yi."
"Stop talking nonsense and lead the way."
After thinking for a moment, Jiang Shanshan pointed to the road ahead and said, "You...you go first."
Mu Nanxun didn't say much and strode towards the dark road ahead, with Jiang Shanshan following closely behind him.
