When the two returned to Maple Riverside, it was already completely dark. Mu Nanxun had already handed the book over to the men in black, who then sent it to professionals for cleaning up the traces and restoring the text.
As night falls, the surroundings gradually quiet down, and the night outside the window is exceptionally tranquil and peaceful.
Looking at Mu Nanxun sleeping soundly beside her, Yi Yi was overwhelmed with countless thoughts. No matter how much she tossed and turned, she couldn't fall asleep peacefully. She just stared blankly at the ceiling.
After a while, Yi Yi not only failed to fall asleep, but became increasingly awake. She simply sat up in bed, but before she could get out of bed, the sleeping man hugged her tightly and whispered affectionately in her ear, "Yi Yi, don't go."
"Mumu..."
Yi turned her head to look and found that Mu Nanxun's eyes were closed and he was still asleep, but his brows were habitually furrowed.
Were you dreaming?
Yi snuggled closer to him, reaching out her small hand to gently smooth his furrowed brow. Only after he had fallen peacefully asleep again, his steady breathing filling the room, did she quietly move away from him, sitting on the edge of the bed.
She remembered the photo on her phone, and her curiosity, which she had managed to suppress, resurfaced.
I opened the translation software and uploaded the photo. I waited anxiously.
There might have been some obscure characters, which translation software couldn't accurately translate. Therefore, what Yi Yi received were only fragmented sentences.
"The spirit fox and humans are of the same lineage. Over the years, there have been many cases of spirit foxes falling in love with humans, but few have been as devoted as Asha, who disregarded everything for humans and even abandoned her identity as the leader of the spirit foxes."
Yi read it silently, then read it again. It seemed to tell a love story between a fox spirit and a human. Just like her and Mu Mu's story.
She was eager to know what "Asha" in this story went through and what her ending was, as if it would also represent her and Mu Nanxun's ending.
Curiosity compelled her to keep watching.
"In order to be with the man she loved, Asha disregarded the opposition of her entire tribe and cut off her fox tail, just to completely lose her identity as a spirit fox and become more like a human."
Upon reading this, Yi Yi gasped. Cutting off one's own tail—how painful that must be! This "Asha" is incredibly brave.
Yi thought that if she were to do that, she might not have the courage and decisiveness of "Asha".
And then what happened? She had already lost a tail for the man she loved; surely they should have lived happily ever after.
She continued reading.
"The pain of losing her tail was no less than the pain of having her heart ripped out. Asha couldn't bear it and fell into a coma. Her face was as pale as a sheet of paper, and she was as weak as a withered flower, as if she might disappear from this world at any moment."
"Asha lost her tail, and the fox clan no longer accepted her. They even considered her a jinx who brought shame and misfortune to their people. With her life hanging by a thread, Asha was thrown out of the jungle by the fox clan and warned that she could never come back. She herself understood that since she had chosen this man, she would have no family or friends left."
Upon reading this, Yi Yi's heart ached, her nose tingled, and tears welled up in her eyes.
Even though she was reading someone else's story, it made her feel as if it were about her own life.
