The old man lay quietly in the hospital bed, breathing evenly, and sleeping relatively soundly.
Mu Nanxun checked his supplies and medicines; everything was prepared properly, and there was nothing to add.
"Let the old man sleep for a while, let's go out."
No sooner had he finished speaking than the old man opened his eyes, glared at him with displeasure, and complained, "You little bastard, you're leaving after only a short while? You can't stand seeing your old man like that, can you?!"
"Uncle Mu, you're awake!" Yi Yi turned around in surprise.
The old man looked at Yi Yi and hummed in agreement, his expression softening.
Mu Nanxun then took Yi Yi's hand and sat down in front of the old man.
“Grandpa, getting so angry as soon as you wake up isn’t good for your health.”
"You know I'm not well, yet you still make me angry!" The old man's eyes reddened. "You brat, I thought you were dead, and I was going to have to bury you! Since you're not dead, why didn't you come back sooner? And since you're back, why didn't you come to see me right away!"
The old man was truly angry this time. Rather than just angry, it was as if his pent-up worries from the past few days had finally erupted. Since Mu Nanxun's disappearance, he hadn't had a good night's sleep, living in constant fear and anxiety.
Sometimes he even felt that his son was really dead, that he had died before him, the old man.
Upon hearing this, Mu Nanxun, unusually, did not argue with him. Mu Nanxun knew that all the old man's scolding stemmed from his worries.
"I'm not dead, I'm perfectly fine. I encountered some things outside these past few days that made things inconvenient, so I only came back yesterday." Mu Nanxun didn't tell the old man that he had trespassed into the Spirit Fox's territory, nor did he tell him Yi Yi's true identity.
The old man has already suffered too much during this period; if we tell him these things again, he probably won't be able to accept it. It's not too late to tell him slowly when there's a chance later.
"Hmph, even if you've been out and about and haven't been able to come back, you didn't even bother to come see me when you got back yesterday! Doesn't your father's life or death matter to you?!"
"You just called me a bastard. If I'm a bastard, then you're a bastard too. You're a thousand-year-old bastard, a ten-thousand-year-old tortoise. You've only lived a short time."
"You..." The old man glared, his anger finally subsiding somewhat.
“Besides…” Mu Nanxun added, “I already visited you at the hospital yesterday; you were asleep then.”
The old man was finally satisfied. "That's more like it."
"Now that you've calmed down, there's something I need to discuss with you."
"What is it?" the old man asked warily. Didn't he know Mu Nanxun well? When he said he wanted to discuss something, he usually already had a decision made; he was just informing him.
"Yi Yi and I..." Mu Nanxun held Yi Yi's hand, interlocking their fingers, "We've decided to get our marriage certificate."
Get...get a marriage certificate?
Yi instinctively tried to pull her hand back, but Mu Nanxun held it tightly, not allowing her to move.
Mu Nanxun had once told Yi Yi that human couples need to be legally recognized. This legal recognition is actually that little red booklet called a "marriage certificate".
If a man and a woman have their names and photos on that little red book, it means they are a legally recognized couple and are protected by law.
