Chapter 45 Wanting to Go to School

"Grandpa, look at the name Yan Yan just wrote."

After lunch, Xiao Xinyan practiced calligraphy in the study of the Li family patriarch as usual. She carefully finished writing a piece of calligraphy and then showed it to the patriarch.

"Come here, let Grandpa take a look..."

The old man of the Li family hurriedly reached out and took the paper that Xiao Xinyan handed him. He even put on his reading glasses and began to look at it and appreciate it carefully.

Xiao Xinyan stood obediently to the side, her clear, bright eyes sparkling with anticipation.

After practicing for a while, the little girl can clearly feel her progress, and she felt great writing today. She believes she will receive praise from her grandfather.

He was still just a three-and-a-half-year-old child, and the praise from his elders made him feel sweeter than if he had tasted honey.

The old master of the Li family was also exceptionally serious, reading every single word. He smiled kindly at Xiao Xinyan and gently praised her:

"Yes, Yanbao's handwriting is getting better and better, that's great!"

As they were talking, the old man from the Li family reached out and patted Xiao Xinyan's head.

As expected, she received praise from her grandfather, and Xiao Xinyan was overjoyed, a wide smile curving her lips.

"Thank you, Grandpa!"

The little girl's voice was sweet and soft, making the old man of the Li family smile even more brightly.

She's my granddaughter after all; it feels much more comforting to hear her call me "Grandpa" than those other Calabash Brothers.

After glancing down at the calligraphy written by Xiao Xinyan, the old man of the Li family pondered for a moment and then asked the little boy:

"Yanbao, can you tell Grandpa why you like writing so much?"

The little girl's diligence and eagerness to learn far exceeded the expectations of the old man from the Li family.

Moreover, she is very talented and a promising talent. If she receives proper training, she will surely achieve great things in the future.

Upon hearing her grandfather's question, Xiao Xinyan answered very obediently:

"Because Yanbao feels that writing well is a very fulfilling thing, Yanbao likes to write."

After she finished speaking, her eyes curved slightly, like two little crescent moons, sweet and lovely.

The old man of the Li family smiled gently and continued to inquire in a kind and amiable manner:

"So... does Yanbao want to go to school like her brothers?"

My child is three and a half years old now, which is the age when he should be going to kindergarten.

From the moment Xiao Xinyan's household registration was settled in the Li family, the old man of the Li family had already been planning this matter. He wanted Xiao Xinyan to receive the best education, just like the other children in the Li family.

"go to school……"

Xiao Xinyan's eyes brightened noticeably, but the next second, the light in her eyes dimmed again, and she asked uncertainly, "Can Yanbao go to school?"

She asked the question cautiously, as if afraid that her grandfather would give her a negative answer and shatter the beautiful bubble that had risen in her heart.

"Of course you can! Why not?"

The old man from the Li family asked, somewhat puzzled, then reached out and patted Xiao Xinyan's head, saying matter-of-factly, "Every child has the right and obligation to receive an education!"

Children can only learn to know right from wrong, to feel ashamed, and to be polite through education...

Both boys and girls should receive an education.

Those with a talent for learning can continue down the path of reading to the very end, while those without a talent for learning can still cultivate correct values.

Grandpa's answer surprised Xiao Xinyan. It was the first time someone had said such a thing to her. Her heart started pounding, and she felt an irrepressible excitement.

She stared wide-eyed at the old man of the Li family.

After a long moment of stunned silence, Xiao Xinyan gradually came to her senses and said somewhat timidly:

“When Yanbao was in the village, the village school didn’t want him, and everyone in the village said that Yanbao didn’t deserve to go to school.”

The villagers called her a little jinx, worried that her schooling would negatively impact the other children in the village. So, the villagers collectively went to the school and made a scene, resulting in Xiao Xinyan, who was about to start kindergarten, being rejected by the school.

She didn't even get back the tuition fees her mother had paid in advance.

That money was all that my mother had saved up, bit by bit. You could say that every single penny of it was stained with her blood and sweat...

Upon hearing Xiao Xinyan's words, the old master of the Li family was visibly stunned, and a clear look of heartache welled up in his eyes. He even couldn't help but sigh.

It's simply unimaginable what this soft, cuddly little baby has been through. How much malice from this world has he endured? How much of the ugliest side of humanity has he witnessed...?

After calming himself down slightly, the old man of the Li family looked intently into Xiao Xinyan's eyes and made a serious promise to her:

“Yanbao, as long as you want to go to school, Grandpa will send you to the best school to receive an education.”

As he spoke, the old man's eyes crinkled into a smile, and he coaxed her with a mixture of pride and affection: "Our little girl is so smart and clever, whichever school she goes to is a blessing for that school."

I can really go to school now...

Xiao Xinyan stood frozen in place as if petrified. After a moment, her eyes, which had dimmed, regained their light.

"Yan Yan can really go to school now!"

The three-and-a-half-year-old couldn't help but cheer, flashing a bright smile at Grandpa Li, and said in her childish voice, "Thank you, Grandpa! Yan Yan is so happy!"

I'm so happy! Truly happy from the bottom of my heart!

My mother said that only by studying hard can one see a wider world.
