Chapter 104 Falling Before Dawn

Inside the Zhang Mansion, Madam Zhang was still a little puzzled as to where the maid who was guarding the house had gone. However, she did not dwell on it too much and just kept calling Yang'er. She carefully pushed open the door of the room in the center of the courtyard. The person inside did not respond at all. The only answer she got was silence and the rustling sound of fallen leaves in the wind.

As soon as they entered the room, Huai Shi and Ye Yan looked at each other and covered their noses at the same time. With such a depressing atmosphere, the doors and windows were closed and there was no ventilation. Various smells mixed together inside, and it was impossible to breathe fresh air. Even people who were not sick would probably get sick.

"Yang'er, mother is here to see you." Mrs. Zhang's tone was gentle, but her voice trembled unconsciously.

She didn't know how much longer she could hold on. She had been seeking medical treatment everywhere over the years, and the harvest from the shop had almost been used up. She had also sold a lot of her dowry, and there was not much left. She was so tired, she really couldn't hold on any longer...

"Yang'er, I see you. Come out quickly. I brought you some cakes that you like."

Because they didn't know the patient's condition, Ye Yan and Huai Shi didn't dare to speak. They could only follow Mrs. Zhang's steps and search the house.

In the farthest corner of the room, a little girl with thin arms and legs was lying on the ground. The blood on her forehead was as creepy as her bulging belly.

Mrs. Zhang ran over and was suddenly overwhelmed by despair. She could only shake the little girl's body stiffly, "Yang'er, Yang'er, why are you so stupid..."

"Mom, Yang'er is not a burden, no..." The little girl showed some reaction and said in a flattering tone, her eyes just opened and seemed to be about to close the next second.

Mrs. Zhang suddenly understood. Human nature is just like that. Her tears fell faster and faster. "Yang'er, you are all I have. How can you be a burden?"

She stayed outside the yard every day to look at the account books. Today, she went out for a short while. When she came back, she couldn't find the maid who was watching over her. Yang'er inside said these words again, and there was a broken medicine bowl next to her. What else was there that she didn't understand?

Ye Yan poked Huai Shi, who was squatting beside the broken bowl, and whispered, "Don't look at it. If you don't take action now, it might be too late."

"This girl is lucky. She didn't drink the poison that kills instantly. The bleeding from the wound has stopped. But I'm afraid it's because of you that she got sick." Huai Shi dipped some medicine on the ground with a handkerchief and smelled it at the tip of his nose.

What a huge hatred this is! He was so cruel to a little girl. This dosage is more than enough to poison a group of people. If this little girl gets even a little bit of it, no one can help her.

"Miracles doctor, are you saying that Yang'er's disease can be cured?" Mrs. Zhang finally woke up from her dream and turned around expectantly, remembering that she had invited a miracle doctor.

Huai Shi nodded and pointed at Ye Yan, "Let her treat this disease, but Madam, it's best for you to find out who in the mansion wants to harm Miss Zhang. It's easy to avoid an open attack, but it's hard to guard against an arrow from the dark."

"What the miracle doctor said is right. I will have someone prepare a carriage to move to another place. Thank you for troubling the two miracle doctors." Mrs. Zhang nodded and forced herself to hold back her tears.

She couldn't cry, couldn't just collapse like that, even for Yang'er. There was no one else in the house, not even Yang'er's biological father could tolerate her. Perhaps she was the only one in the world who wanted Yang'er to be alive.

Ye Yan skillfully took out a small bamboo ball from Huai Shi's bag. Her movements were so skillful that it made people feel distressed. Then she gently shook the bamboo ball and said in a gentle tone, "Yang'er, can I hold you?"

"Sister, you can't hold Yang'er." Perhaps it was the first time she felt kindness from an outsider. Zhang Yang felt a little shy, and her pale face turned a little red. She turned away uncomfortably, trying to hide her belly.

The child king, Xiao Ye, is not to be underestimated. Her affinity is awesome. Ye Yan tried to reach out and touch Zhang Yang while calming him down. "Yang'er, you're overthinking it. I'll take Yang'er to my sister's house to play, okay?"

Zhang Yang shuddered. Ye Yan gently stroked Zhang Yang's back and continued softly, "Don't be afraid, Yang'er. I will heal you."

"Sister, will you really heal me?" Zhang Yang asked softly. She had hoped so many times, but did she really still have hope? So many white-bearded old men had looked at her with fear and disgust, some even saying something like "evil spirit" and then hurried away...

Feeling Zhang Yang's attitude soften, Ye Yan replied affirmatively, gently but firmly, "Of course, Yang'er, trust me, okay?"

Zhang Yang made a soft "hmm" sound, which was barely audible. If no one was talking in the room, no one would have noticed it at all.

Ye Yan picked him up and asked Huai Shi to cover Zhang Yang with a piece of clothing. She then carried him out swiftly. "Mrs. Zhang, why don't you go directly to my house so I can treat Yang'er."

"Okay, please wait for me for a moment, both doctors." Mrs. Zhang nodded, remembered her personal maid who had disappeared, sent the three of them to the carriage, and then turned around and walked into the study.

Mrs. Zhang felt relieved that the unfaithful man was not in the study. When she was about to leave, she heard the sound of ropes rubbing and occasional groans, and she moved over with some vigilance.

"Atao, what's wrong with you?" Mrs. Zhang pulled out the cloth that was stuffed in the maid's mouth and tried hard to untie the rope.

Ah Tao didn't bother to ask for help, she just hurriedly said, "Madam, don't worry about me, go see the young lady, the master...he wants to harm the young lady."

"Yang'er is fine, A Tao, let's go first." Seeing the attitude of the personal maid, Mrs. Zhang's guess was confirmed, and she just helped the person up.

Perhaps everything had been foreshadowed long ago, but she was just deceiving herself and unwilling to believe it.

Ye Wanwan, who got the news, also rushed to the unopened Haitang Clinic. Ye Yan and Huai Shi were already busy in the operating room. Ye Wanwan stayed beside Mrs. Zhang and, relying on the little medical knowledge in her mind, simply helped A Tao treat her injuries.

Ah Tao looked hesitant, staring blankly at Madam Zhang. The Master actually wanted the Young Lady's life. Even she, who had accompanied Madam Zhang all the way, couldn't accept it, let alone Madam Zhang. Everyone in the mansion knew how much Madam Zhang had put into treating the Young Lady over the years.

"A Tao, I'm fine. Just tell me, I can bear it." Mrs. Zhang forced out a smile that was uglier than crying. She should cry, but what should she cry about?

Was she crying over the misplaced love she'd given over the past decade? Or was she crying over the injustice God had shown Yang'er? Or was she crying over how things had clearly been turning around, yet this had to happen at this very moment... She truly didn't know how to face all this.
