Chapter 10
Su Ran always looked serious.
Despite the gunshots outside, his attention was all focused on the small petals.
After all, he trusted the Colonel.
This human had saved him once before in the cave.
It’s amazing.
"Are you still scared?" Su Ran patted the mantis. "Come and count the petals with me."
"Forty-five pieces, forty-six pieces..."
He looked very focused as he used his small leaves to pluck the snow-white petals. Finally, when he counted to ninety-eight petals, he heard footsteps outside the building.
It's the Colonel!
Su Ran perked up immediately, stepped on the petals with his soft roots, and ran over.
Sure enough, his intuition was correct. The colonel and Qiao Ran were standing on an abandoned building not far away, with four giant deformed monsters lying beside them.
Compared to the other soldiers, his black combat uniform was almost undamaged, including the gun in his hand. At this moment, he was expressionlessly directing the other soldiers to replace the damaged weapons.
Su Ran waited obediently on the side. When she saw Mantis coming, she held the newly tied bow and waited for the colonel together.
"Shh..." Su Ran gestured with the small leaves and whispered to the mantis, "Don't disturb him."
The mantis shook its legs in agreement.
At this time, Si Chengyan stood next to a deformed creature and kicked its head away.
"This thing is disgusting." Qiao Ran said, "Look at its square shape. The head and limbs are like bricks stacked together. It looks like a small building."
Si Chengyan: "What you said makes sense."
Qiao Ran: “Hmm?”
"This deformed creature should have been a human being before." Si Chengyan bent down and found an ID card from a pile of dirt. He could vaguely see the address and name written on it.
"It seems they have indeed merged with each other," Qiao Ran said, "but this theory is too absurd. If humans and buildings can merge, wouldn't the world be over?"
Si Chengyan: "Not sure yet."
Upon hearing this, Qiao Ran sighed and said, "Forget it, this problem is not ours to handle. Let's leave it to those old guys from the Qualitative Change Research Institute."
After saying that, he called Poke and scanned the area.
With Poke's voice, the detection value of the distortion object finally returned to 30, a safe number.
According to the regulations of the Institute of Qualitative Change, if the value is above 60, there are dangerous deformed materials, and between 30 and 60, there are intermediate deformed materials, which are relatively safe.
It seems that the crisis in this urban area has been temporarily averted.
Next, they would wait for support from the base to arrive and clean up the site. They could also take a break and then head back to the main base.
Si Chengyan's brows relaxed slightly, and he hurried into the building while listening to the soldier's report.
Seeing that the other party was looking for her, Su Ran whispered "Colonel Colonel" and kept jumping high on the rocks. Seeing the other party's eyes falling on her, she stretched out her little leaves, wanting to hug her.
A faint smile appeared in Si Chengyan's eyes.
He took off his gloves, squatted down and looked at Su Ran.
"Thank you for your hard work." Su Ran rubbed the colonel's fingers and hummed for a while.
"Colonel, this is..."
"Continue." Si Chengyan placed Su Ran in his palm and asked, "How is the camp going now?"
Soldier: "We are ready."
"Okay." Si Chengyan said, "Then let's go there as soon as possible."
The environment here was no match for the wilderness or the abyss, and the city, having just undergone a transformation, was vulnerable. All residents were relocated to the outer city, fifty kilometers away, while temporary camps were established in every district and every outpost.
Su Ran glanced at Si Chengyan, then at the soldiers. Although they were respectful, they seemed a little afraid of this human.
I don’t know why.
He found the colonel very kind, although he had no expression.
The military had prepared an open-air area, so Su Ran naturally stayed with the colonel. They chose a large tree surrounded by glowing green spores, like fireflies' night lights.
At this time, he was holding two picture books, which were given to him by Anna. They were covered with dust and were picked up by the medical team on the roadside.
Su Ran spread out a page and blew everything from the page to the footer aside.
Puff puff.
Blow them all out.
Su Ran was whistling when Si Chengyan came over and sat next to him.
He had two cups of tea in his hands, one was Biluochun and the other was Gougaojuice, with a reed on top to make a straw.
Su Ran leaned over the book and asked, "When are we going back?"
Si Chengyan: "The day after tomorrow."
Su Ran: "Wow, great."
He couldn't wait to see what the colonel's parents looked like.
Will it be like his Elder Rose’s tree house, covered with lots of vines and where you can swing on them?
At this moment, Si Chengyan said, "The water and sunshine I mentioned last time are ready, as well as the dog ball juice. I asked Qiao Ran to prepare it."
He paused for a few seconds and asked, "Besides this, what else do you need?"
"Well..." Su Ran said obediently, "There are also nutrient beads."
"What is that?"
"A kind of bead that can make plants grow faster." Su Ran used a small leaf to draw a water drop on the mud. "With this, they can grow faster."
Seeing that the other party was lost in thought, he waved the small leaf and said, "I can find this myself."
After all, humans don't know about nutrient beads, but plants and small animals do. When the time comes, all you have to do is ask them about them when you play with them.
Su Ran nodded confidently.
Finding nutrient beads, he can do it alone!
With his conviction, he dragged a small storybook to Si Chengyan's side. But within a few seconds, he was attracted by the dog ball juice, put the leaf into the reed tube, and drank the juice happily.
"I've heard of nutrient beads," Si Chengyan said, "but it's just theoretical knowledge. I've never seen one."
He paused, then continued, "I heard that due to the distortion, the nutrient beads also possess many different abilities that can allow plants to evolve."
Su Ran listened, not quite understanding what was said. He held the reed stalk and asked, "What will happen?"
"Not sure." Si Chengyan said, "But each bead can produce corresponding changes."
Listening to Si Chengyan's description, Su Ran's imagination flew away.
His head was filled with giant octopuses covered with tentacles, strange flying birds, and the terrifying god-like figure from before.
No way. No way.
After eating the beads, he won’t grow into a big monster, right?
Wow, if it turns out like this, it will be so ugly!
Su Ran was so frightened that she trembled and fell into the juice again, becoming a wet and sticky little rose.
Without asking Si Chengyan for help, he stepped on the short roots and floated to the side of the cup.
But even so, he kept muttering, "How scary."
Unless he is transformed into a human being, he would rather remain a small, unopened rose forever.
Just then, he heard the other person ask, "Do you really want to grow up?"
Su Ran confirmed without hesitation.
"Then..." Si Chengyan's voice was filled with a hint of laughter, "What do you want to do when you grow up?"
Su Ran fell into thought again.
"It's probably about being able to do a lot of things that an adult rose can do."
"for example?"
"Hmm... pollination, raising a bunch of rose pups, and punching a little pest!"
As soon as he said this, he saw Si Chengyan smile.
Similarly, I don’t know why this human is laughing, but Su Ran feels that something is a little bit wrong.
It must have been the answer just now, something that put the colonel in a good mood.
But to be honest, he didn't know how pollination and raising cubs were all done - the elders had always refused to tell him, always saying that he was still a small seedling and couldn't say too much, and then they would just gloss over the issue.
This resulted in him having a large blind spot in knowledge.
The key is that this blind spot cannot be put into practice yet, it has to grow and bloom into a bud.
With the virtues of a studious and inquisitive little rose, Su Ran looked at Si Chengyan.
"I have a question." Before the other party could speak, he asked seriously in a low voice, "Pollination, what exactly do you do?"
The author has something to say:
Baby, you will know when you grow up.
