Chapter 78

Chapter 78

Su Ran met Siertu's gaze.

For some reason, he paused for a few seconds, then nodded at the small flower bud and said, "Okay."

Before leaving, he packed a small leather backpack that Anna had made for him. Just as he was putting it on, he heard the other person ask, "We're just going to see the colonel. There's no need to go through so much trouble."

"But..." Su Ran said, "Little Rose must carry a small backpack."

As soon as he finished speaking, Su Ran saw Anna's intercom light up. It was a call from the medical department. So Su Ran said, "It's okay. I can do it alone."

Su Ran followed Siertu to the underground laboratory.

Compared to the last time Si Chengyan went there, more experimental subjects were set up. Before Su Ran even entered the laboratory, he saw countless glass bottles.

They piled up in front of Su Ran, as tall as he was, with long green water stains and an unknown, sticky red liquid on the inside.

Just one glance and you'll see the reflected eyeball floating above.

Su Ran: “!”

He clutched his small backpack.

The experimenters around were busy. They were wearing white lab coats. From Su Ran's perspective, they were completely shielded.

To enter this polygonal laboratory, facial recognition is required first, so Siertu put Su Ran on the table.

"Hello, Researcher Siertu." The person who spoke was an automatic instrument. The display screen above it kept flashing, as if there was a poor contact.

"Verification is in progress, please wait..."

"Verification successful."

"Transfer in progress, please wait again, estimated time 30 seconds."

"Transfer ended, please come in."

As the call ended, Su Ran saw the door to the laboratory slowly open. At that moment, he heard the automated instrument say, "Aberration detection complete. Please proceed to manual verification."

"What does this mean?"

Siertu said with some distress: "We need to get a verification first, because you are not human."

Su Ran looked at Siertu and was brought into a room a few seconds later. The moment he entered the room, Su Ran saw a badge hanging on the white wall of the room.

"This is the design emblem of the Hanging Island. It is only used internally now." A bespectacled experimenter came out. She had two long bows tied to her braids. She was about fifteen or sixteen years old.

Su Ran's attention was completely attracted.

After writing his name and the title "Colonel's Little Rose" on the card with a ballpoint pen, he listened to the experimenter's keyboard clacking while looking at the emblem of the Hanging Island.

This is a composite emblem, with irregular left and right sides, but with a corresponding harmonious design.

The old copper material reminded Su Ran of the "Old City", where a church and a huge eagle stood. On the right was silver with many iron chains surrounding two suspended areas, like the "New City".

"That one on the right..." Su Ran asked, "Is it the sign of the old city?"

"You're right," the experimenter said. "This is a new one. Someone knocked it down a few days ago and broke a corner of it."

Su Ran: "Falling?"

"Maybe they're just playing tricks," the experimenter said nonchalantly. "After all, we can bring aberrations to work, and maybe a little cutie like you might knock one down out of play."

"It's strange, though."

"Um?"

"When I found this one dropped to the ground, there were branches scattered around it... Really strange." The experimenter shrugged. "I don't remember raising any tree-like aberrations here..."

As she spoke, she handed a handful of small notes to Su Ran: "Okay."

"With this, you can enter the research institute," the experimenter said. "Go quickly, Siertu is waiting."

Su Ran nodded.

After taking the note with the leaf, he heard the other party speak again.

"Nice to meet you, my name is Sheena."

"Hello, I'm Su Ran."

Afterwards, Su Ran followed Siertu into the research institute.

There are about twenty large laboratories, recording various files and many collected aberrations. These objects in "intermediate state" and "highly dangerous" are supposed to be studied by humans.

Some objects are simply "eyeballs" or "bone arms" that can move on their own, so they are placed in glass cabinets in the corridor, with densely packed labels underneath. There are more deformed objects like Su Ran, aquatic animals, and some strange birds, animals and plants.

Along the way, Su Ran saw many birds with seven or eight wings, but unlike those he saw in the wild, they had more strange parts. When they saw Su Ran, they reacted very violently and kept beating the glass bottle, as if they wanted to tell him something.

"This is the latest aberration caught in the wild," Siertu introduced. "It hasn't had time to be tranquilized yet."

"Is it also dangerous?"

"You're right." Siertu's eyes darkened. "Because you attacked humans, you have to pay a price."

Su Ran repeated in a low voice: "The price..."

He looked at Sirtu and said nothing more.

After passing many glass bottles and jars along the way, Su Ran and Si Ertu finally walked into a room. For some reason, just as he entered, before he even had time to turn on the lights, Su Ran felt very depressed.

So he looked around and finally said, "Where's the colonel?"

The tone was defensive, echoing his decision not to go any further. Su Ran simply leaned against the door, holding down his small backpack. After just a few seconds, he heard a gentle smile from the other party: "I'll be right there."

For some reason, his back became a little hunched, and he was breathing slightly, as if he was planning something.

Seeing this, Su Ran took a few steps back. When he was about to take out the things in his backpack, he heard the other party laughing loudly.

"You know me, don't you?" Siertu said with a smile, revealing a bit of the sharp tree root with his fingertips. "I really thank you for your... healing power back then."
