Chapter Four

Chapter Four

Ye Yin suddenly remembered his first phone call with Teng Zhi.

At first, the phone he used to contact Teng Zhi was usually turned off, but every few hours Ye Yin would turn it on to see if she had sent any messages.

Later, he turned on his phone more and more frequently. Ye Yin knew he shouldn't, but he couldn't control himself. Sometimes, when he hadn't received any new information for several days, he would even vaguely hope that "some evidence will come soon."

This is incredibly twisted. Not content with just suffering yourself, you have to drag the other person down with you.

What is this? A Green Lantern alliance?

He sent Li Yang intimate photos of them in close proximity, which resulted in Teng Zhi berating him harshly. Ye Yin looked at the continuous stream of messages and actually laughed out loud.

It's so strange, even though it's just text, he feels like he can hear her voice.

Eager, angry, fearful, bluffing, outwardly strong but inwardly weak.

That call was completely unexpected; Ye Yin hadn't intended to answer it.

It's definitely not a good idea to accept this. The relationship is already complicated enough, and having more contact with Tengzhi would not be a good thing.

But for some inexplicable reason, my thumb still pressed the answer button.

It turned out he was just a bluffing little man. Suppressing his wildly beating heart, he pretended to be calm as he greeted her.

The moment Ye Yin heard the words, "I am the husband of your husband's mistress," her heart leaped into her throat.

He could hear the woman on the other end of the phone gasp, his ears tingled, and his heart felt like it was being sucked in, as if he were beginning to lose his weight and plummet downwards.

He didn't press her, but waited for Teng Zhi to process the information little by little.

After a while, he heard her ask in a trembling voice, "Do you have a child?"

Now Ye Yin was at a loss for what to do.

He and Yang Jiawen aren't even married yet, so where would a child come from?

He didn't answer, but asked instead, "It's hard to explain over the phone. How about we meet in person? Only face-to-face can we properly discuss this matter."

After the other end of the phone hung up, Ye Yin assumed that Teng Zhi had been driven away by his shamelessness once again. However, five minutes later, he received a message.

Time, restaurant, private room number.

It is concise and to the point, and the meaning is clear.

Ye Yin raised an eyebrow. Good thing, this guy has turned the tables on him?

He texted me: "So, would you go to the hotel to catch them cheating?"

But this time, he didn't receive a reply.

The hotel room number was found out by someone else and sent to him. It's definitely real, but there's a time lag.

In other words, if they actually went to the hotel, the two of them might have already ended their rendezvous and gone home.

Sure enough, while he was still waiting for Teng Zhi's reply, Yang Jiawen called him, giggling and saying that she was going to the supermarket and asked him if he wanted steak for dinner. She said she would buy it and cook it for him herself.

Ye Yin tried to sound apologetic, saying that his sister had asked him to discuss the shop with her that evening, and he politely declined Yang Jiawen's offer. Hearing that she sounded a little down, Ye Yin patiently comforted her for a few moments.

That night, he stayed at the seafood shop until very late before going home. Yang Jiawen had already gone to sleep. He looked at her phone on the bedside table, but in the end, he did nothing and went into the bathroom to wash up.

He lay quietly on the other side of the bed, his back to his girlfriend, and didn't sleep all night.

He was no longer thinking about Yang Jiawen and her lover's illicit affair at the Mandarin Oriental today; he was thinking about what he should say to Teng Zhi when he ran into her tomorrow.

The next morning, Ye Yin took Yang Jiawen back to school and then rushed back to the city to keep their "appointment".

He arrived half an hour earlier than the agreed time. Fifteen minutes later, just as he was about to call the waiter to refill his water, the door to the private room was pushed open.

Teng Zhi came in. Ye Yin was holding a teapot, his mouth open, looking somewhat dazed.

What I was thinking was: I do look fatter on camera.

Whether Tengzhi was anxious or angry, or perhaps both, her face was even redder than it was now.

It was raining heavily outside at that time. Tengzhi wasn't driving, and her floral long umbrella was soaking wet. Her hair and the hem of her long skirt were also a little wet.

To be honest, she looked a bit disheveled, but her face, which hadn't been wiped dry, resembled a peach covered in morning dew.

The air in the private room was still and the atmosphere was subtle. The two sat on opposite sides of the round table, neither of them speaking. Fortunately, the female manager knocked on the door and asked if they wanted to place an order now.

Ye Yin turned the glass turntable, bringing the heavy menu to Teng Zhi, indicating that she should order.

Teng Zhi didn't touch the menu. While wiping her hair with a tissue, she skillfully recited the names of the dishes to the manager.

After the manager left, Ye Yin stood up, stretched out his arm to pour tea into the porcelain cup in front of Teng Zhi, and asked calmly, "Did you go to the hotel yesterday?"

Teng Zhi's eyes held a hint of wariness as she shook her head and said, "Of course not. I can't immediately confirm whether the information you gave me is true or false. What if it's a scam from beginning to end?"

After a few seconds of pause, her voice was muffled: "Besides, I don't even know who you are yet."

Ye Yin chuckled, deciding not to keep her in suspense any longer. He briefly introduced himself and answered her earlier question: "I don't have children. But Ms. Teng, I'm curious, what does having children have to do with infidelity?"

"It doesn't really matter... I just feel that no matter how it's handled afterward, parental infidelity will definitely have some impact on a child's development in the future."

Teng Zhi's voice was a little low: "This will make me even more uneasy."

...

A car ahead braked suddenly, and although Ye Yin was multitasking, he managed to step on the brakes in time.

The memories came to an abrupt end.

Tengzhi felt a slight pull from the seatbelt: "Ugh—"

"Sorry, I pressed the brake too hard."

"It's nothing, it's nothing." Teng Zhi adjusted her glasses, looking worried. "It looks like there was a rear-end collision ahead."

"right."

Seeing that the driver of the car that braked suddenly had turned on his hazard lights and gotten out, Ye Yin made a quick decision, stepped back a little, turned the steering wheel sharply, and slipped out of the crowd before the traffic started to get congested.

Seeing Teng Zhi lick her lips again, Ye Yin sighed inwardly.

He turned the steering wheel to the right and drove onto the side road. The car quickly pulled over and stopped. Teng Zhi asked, puzzled, "Why did you stop?"

"Wait a minute, I need to buy something." Ye Yin turned on the hazard lights, snapped off his seatbelt, and said with a smirk, "Don't worry, even if I'm five minutes slower, I can still catch up."

After saying that, he got out of the car and ran into a 7-Eleven on the side of the road.

Teng Zhi was still a little anxious. She retrieved her phone and refreshed the watch's location again and again.

Ye Yin returned quickly and tossed a bottle of mineral water into her arms after getting into the car: "Drink this, your mouth is dry."

The mineral water had just been taken out of the freezer, the bottle covered in water droplets, and the coolness seeped into her fingertips, slightly easing Tengzhi's anxiety.

She thanked him softly, opened the bottle cap, and took two sips.

"A ghostly air."

Ye Yin muttered as he started the car again. Seeing Teng Zhi take out her phone again, he clicked his tongue and, without thinking much, casually took it from her: "No need to stare at it, the more you look, the more anxious you'll get."

As the warm fingertips brushed against the palm of her left hand, Tengzhi blinked and made a soft "hmm" sound, calmly holding the mineral water bottle with both hands.

This seems to slightly suppress the itching that starts spreading from the palms of the hands.

Ye Yin kept his promise and quickly closed the distance to the target vehicle.

But to their surprise, Li Tiancheng actually returned to the company.

Li Tiancheng's company is located in an office building above a subway station. The parking lot is shared with the shopping mall below. It has been around for many years, with dim lighting, mottled walls, and uneven ground.

Ye Yin waited until the location on his phone completely stopped before driving into the venue. Li Tiancheng had rented a private parking space, and Ye Yin quickly found the white BMW with Teng Zhi's guidance.

At this moment, Tengzhi slapped her forehead and exclaimed in annoyance, "Oh dear, I forgot! The watch was hidden in the car, not for him to carry with him at all times, so the vertical positioning function is useless!"

Ye Yin thought she was going to say something, but when he heard that she only remembered this now, he couldn't help but laugh: "I know, I thought of that when you were talking about it earlier."

Teng Zhi's eyes widened: "Then why didn't you remind me?"

She recalled how she had just been enthusiastically explaining to Ye Yin how useful children's watches were, and she felt like a salesperson who hadn't met her monthly sales target.

As Ye Yin looked around for a parking space, he grinned and said, "Seeing how seriously you've prepared, I can't very well dampen your enthusiasm."

Her cheeks flushed with annoyance. Tengzhi raised an eyebrow and glared at him, then stopped pressing the issue.

The vertical positioning function wasn't used, but this little gadget has another "trump card" function that she hasn't told Ye Yin about yet.

Most of the parking spaces near the elevator had signs. Ye Yin circled around but couldn't find a suitable spot, so he decided to circle again. As the car slowly moved forward and was about to pass the white BMW, Teng Zhi suddenly covered her face with her hands and shifted her body down.

Ye Yin frowned, becoming wary: "What's wrong?"

Teng Zhi muttered to herself, "There's a dashcam in the car, I'm afraid it will record me."

The steering wheel felt like a plant with soft thorns, making my palms itch and numb.

"Don't hide."

Ye Yin resisted the urge to ruffle her hair and said in a deep voice, "It's not like you did anything wrong, there's no need to hide."
