Chapter Two
Teng Zhi snorted, hung up the phone, and walked up to Ye Yin.
Being called "sister" by a man her own age, Teng Zhi had neither the mood nor the time to argue with him. She anxiously tapped the app to relocate: "Hurry, hurry, he's almost at CITIC!"
"Okay, you get in the car first."
Ye Yin took two quick steps, picked up the carry-on suitcase from the ground as easily as if it were a basket of eggs, put it in the trunk of the car, and slammed it shut.
He returned to the driver's seat, turned off the hazard lights, and reminded everyone, "Seatbelt."
The man's voice was extremely low, making every word he uttered seem exceptionally serious.
The listener often feels like they've been given a command and can't say no.
Teng Zhi pulled the seatbelt with one hand and tapped the location again. By the time the new location was updated, the seatbelt had just been inserted into the latch. She handed her phone to Ye Yin: "He stopped at the traffic light at CITIC."
Ye Yin glanced at the map and immediately stepped on the gas: "He doesn't even have the slightest suspicion?"
"No, if we had any doubts, we wouldn't be able to see the positioning."
“That’s true.” Ye Yin raised his thick eyebrows slightly and asked, “I didn’t expect this ‘thing’ to be so convenient. How did you come up with the idea of using it?”
“My friend bought this one for her child. Last time I went out to eat with her, she demonstrated for a long time how accurate the positioning of this children's watch is. And you know what? It can even locate vertically in some large shopping malls, and the app will directly show you which floor your child is on.”
Her heart rate hadn't slowed down yet, and it even seemed to be getting faster and faster. Tengzhi licked her slightly dry lips and continued, "If they're having a lunch date, we don't even need to go upstairs to know which restaurant they're eating at."
After buying the children's watch, Tengzhi tested it several times. As long as the signal was stable, the positioning range would generally not have any errors in the spectrum. Therefore, she had to find a place where Li Tiancheng would not easily find it and where the signal would not be affected to hide the watch face with the strap removed.
In the end, she chose the storage bag behind the passenger seat.
When Li Tiancheng got out of the car, he went to the back to get his luggage, and Teng Zhi quickly stuffed the turned-on watch face into the storage bag. There was already a pack of her usual wet wipes there, and after putting the watch face in and putting the wet wipes back in their place, Li Tiancheng closed the trunk lid.
The timing was perfect; a second less and her husband might have seen through her trick.
Even now, Teng Zhi still finds this approach absurd.
She never imagined that one day she would use a children's smartwatch to catch her husband cheating.
Two months ago, on Children's Day, she learned that Li Tiancheng was having an extramarital affair.
That morning, while she was shopping at the supermarket, she received an iMessage on her phone.
The message was brief: "Your husband is cheating on you."
These six words alone were enough to stir up a storm in Teng Zhi's heart.
The sender was an unfamiliar mobile number. She immediately called back, but the other party did not answer. When she called again, the phone was switched off.
Teng Zhi tried to regulate her emotions, telling herself not to become suspicious because of such a nonsensical "tattling".
Who knows who played this prank on her, just trying to annoy her?
But she was truly disgusted. For several days in a row, she paid attention to Li Tiancheng's every move, whether he was acting strangely or not.
Before we could even detect anything unusual about my husband, another message arrived.
I brought a picture this time. The picture is a bit blurry, but you can still see that it is a side view of Li Tiancheng and a young woman walking very close together in Taikoo Hui.
Teng Zhi had never seen this beautiful woman before, with a sweet face, a good figure, exquisite makeup and hair, and fashionable clothes. She was not Li Tiancheng's friend, not an intern or employee at the company, and not a neighbor in the community...
However, Li Tiancheng had a wide social circle, and Teng Zhi only came into contact with a portion of it. Just like her own circle of friends, Li Tiancheng didn't know everything about them either—oh, but that's because Li Tiancheng wasn't very interested in her friendships.
Although the photos seemed like solid evidence, the angle of the shot caused the beautiful woman to partially block Li Tiancheng's view, making it impossible for Teng Zhi to tell whether she was holding Li Tiancheng's arm or whether they were holding hands.
While her teeth chattered with anger, Teng Zhi also seriously considered that even if she threw the photo directly in Li Tiancheng's face, the other party could come up with countless reasons to defend himself.
From meeting to falling in love to getting married, Tengzhi and Li Tiancheng have been together for almost eight years. Over the years, whenever they had disagreements or conflicts, Tengzhi never won an argument against Li Tiancheng.
So it wasn't enough, not enough, she knew, this so-called "evidence" was far from sufficient.
The informant's phone remains switched off.
Teng Zhi tried searching for this number in multiple apps, but it wasn't found on WeChat or Alipay. She saved the number in her phone's contacts, but Douyin and Xiaohongshu didn't push any new "may know" notifications to her.
This number is like a blank sheet of paper.
Now, for a whole week, Teng Zhi not only had to think about Li Tiancheng's cheating scandal, but also had to rack her brains to figure out who the "whistleblower" was and what the purpose of the "whistleblower" was.
Is it the beautiful mistress herself? Is she trying to disrupt her plans, sow discord between her and Li Tiancheng, and then take her place?
Was it someone close to Li Tiancheng who knew the truth? On one hand, they couldn't bear to keep her in the dark any longer, but on the other hand, they couldn't directly betray Li Tiancheng, so they chose this lukewarm "information"?
Unable to reach the number by phone, Teng Zhi sent numerous messages to the number, inquiring about the other party's identity and purpose.
Naturally, she didn't receive a reply for a long time. Finally, she sent a message saying, "If you're so capable, give me clearer photos! Ideally, photos of them naked and sleeping in the same bed! With photos like yours that are so blurry, I'm too embarrassed to post them on Weibo and write a long essay to play the victim!"
She was somewhat exasperated and embarrassed. As soon as she sent the message, Tengzhi regretted it, but unlike WeChat, a text message cannot be recalled once it is sent.
During that time, Tengzhi was filled with anxiety, as if she were walking on a tightrope high in the air.
She barely cared about the shady dealings between her husband and that pretty woman anymore; all she wanted to know was who this vile "whistleblower" was, what grudge they held against her, and why they were treating her like a fool!
In mid-to-late June, Guangzhou had already entered the sweltering heat ahead of schedule, and the phone number that had been dormant for many days suddenly resurfaced, just like a cicada that had been buried in the ground for many years.
Tengzhi received a new text message amidst the cicadas' chirping. The message contained a hotel address and a room number.
There was also an extremely provocative remark: "If you want photos of them sleeping in the same bed, go catch them cheating yourself."
After pent-up anger for more than half a month, Teng Zhi suddenly felt a surge of rage rising from the soles of her feet. Without thinking, she immediately dialed the number back.
I thought it would be like before, with no one answering, but to my surprise, the call connected this time.
The sudden arrival of "happiness" left Tengzhi with a lump in her throat, unable to vent her anger.
It was the other person who spoke first: "Hello, Ms. Teng."
It was a man with a low, deep, and resonant voice, which was quite different from the "scheming and despicable" image that Teng Zhi had imagined.
Teng Zhi asked with difficulty, "Who exactly are you?"
The other person chuckled twice and said slowly, "Me? I'm the husband of the woman your husband was having an affair with."
