Chapter 101: This King is Shameful to See People?

Chapter 101: This King is Shameful to See People?

The guards knelt on the ground as soon as they entered.

Pei Jing tapped the tabletop lightly with his slender fingers. "It's been a few days, and you only discovered it now? You're so quick."

The voice was very faint, but it made the guards feel terrified because they knew it was a sign that the prince was about to get angry.

"Your Highness, it was too dark that night, and the people who discovered the footprints thought they were left by Zhao Xingbang's group, so they didn't mention it. It was mentioned during a casual chat yesterday, so I took people to investigate again."

"Although many traces have been destroyed, we haven't found nothing. They probably weren't left by Zhao Xingbang's group, because there were only five of them, but we found six different footprints in the forest alone."

Pei Jing paused, "Anything else you found?"

"There are traces of a woman's footprints," the guard said, "but I don't know if they were left when Miss Jiang Er and Miss Wei were held hostage."

"Do you have a copy?"

"Yes." The guard took out a piece of paper and Duan Jiu took it and presented it to him.

Pei Jing held the thin piece of paper and looked at it from left to right, but he couldn't tell whether it was the girl's footprint.

“Are the footprints messy?”

"Not too messy." The guard didn't wait for Pei Jing to speak before reporting everything clearly. "Some areas have been destroyed by wild animals in the forest, but other areas can still be seen clearly, arranged in an orderly manner, and the direction of movement seems to be heading deeper into the forest, not towards the hut."

"It looks like there's a third group." Pei Jing's eyes darkened. "Are there any signs of fighting?"

"No."

Duan Jiu was listening when he saw a man poke his head in through the doorway. The servant walked over and whispered, "Guard Duan, it's Miss Jiang Er who's here."

Duan Jiu glanced at Pei Jing and said, "Speak louder."

The servant who brought the news straightened his back and said in a loud voice, "Miss Jiang Er is here."

The man sitting behind the desk stiffened his back slightly, then cleared his throat, relaxed, and leaned back.

"Where are the people?"

The servant who brought the news said, "I came here first to report that Miss Jiang Er is on her way."

Pei Jing frowned slightly, "She didn't come in by carriage?"

"She went through the side door," the servant said. "The carriage can't get in through the side door. The young lady seemed worried about being discovered."

Pei Jing gently waved the back of his hand outward, and the servants and guards retreated.

Duan Jiu didn't know what was wrong with the prince. He thought that Miss Jiang Er's arrival would help him calm down, but he saw that his face was even gloomier than before, and the veins on the back of his hand that was placed on the table were slightly bulging.

"Your Majesty?"

Pei Jing swept his sleeves and most of the things on the table fell to the ground.

"What does she mean? Is she so shameless to come to my place? She always goes through the side door. What does she think of me?!"

Duan Jiu didn't want to talk about it, but since she was already so angry, he had to comfort her. "After all, Miss Jiang Er and Wei Sanlang are engaged, so we have to consider the impact."

Pei Jing suddenly raised his eyes. "You mean she's greedy and treats me as... as her mistress?"

"Of course not." Duan Jiu could no longer keep up with Pei Jing's pace.

How can this be a mistress? You and Miss Jiang Er haven't even started dating yet. You're just here for dinner. You can't even compete with her.

He only dared to complain about this in his heart, but didn't dare to say it in front of the prince.

So he said after careful consideration: "We are just here for a meal, there is no need to make a big fuss."

Pei Jing thought about it and felt that this argument was not convincing enough. Just as he was about to speak, he saw a skirt flowing over the threshold, as if bringing in the fragrance of the flowers in the courtyard.

The scolding Pei Jingyuan was about to say was immediately stuck there.

Jiang Fei exhaled a breath of burning air as she entered the room. She fanned herself with her sleeves and said, "It's still cooler in your room. Bring me some wine and some snacks."

Then he sat down on the chair, crossed his legs, as if he was back home.

Pei Jing was stunned by the action. He had never seen any lady behave so disrespectfully. It was simply, simply outrageous!

Jiang Fei didn't care about his reaction. She originally planned to come here to improve her favorability, but the system was so disappointing that the redemption function was banned. She had no choice but to change her plan temporarily to seek death.

She was born to be a hard worker. On the one hand, she had to improve Wei Mingzhen's favorability, and on the other hand, she had to lower Pei Jing's favorability. Even a donkey doesn't have to work as hard as her.

As she walked, the heat on her body had not dissipated quickly. Jiang Fei looked around but couldn't find a fan. She glanced and saw the books on the ground.

Jiang Fei bent down to pick up the book on the ground, but Pei Jing's face suddenly changed and he stood up abruptly.

"Don't move!"

Unfortunately it's too late.

Jiang Fei had already picked up the book, and the words "The Domineering Prince Fell in Love with Me" were written in large letters on the cover.

The air froze instantly.

Jiang Fei blinked, suspecting that she had seen it wrong. She looked carefully again and found that it was indeed "The Domineering Prince Falls in Love with Me".

"This..." She turned her head to look at Pei Jing, whose ears were already red as blood.

"Duan Jiu!" Pei Jing suddenly shouted, "Why are you throwing your books on the ground?"

Duan Jiu pointed at himself blankly, then stepped forward and said, "Let me take a look. Ah—this is indeed my book."

After saying that, he took the book from the stunned Jiang Fei and stepped aside silently.

The room immediately fell into an eerie silence.

Jiang Fei coughed lightly and suppressed her laughter, "I didn't expect Guard Duan to have such... refined hobbies."

Duan Jiu has a lot of grievances that he can't express.

Pei Jing kept a straight face and pretended to be calm as he straightened his sleeves. "Well, he's always had bad taste."

Duan Jiu, who had “very bad taste,” nodded stubbornly and said, “Yes, yes, I just love reading books like this.”

Jiang Fei glanced at the two of them twice, and looking at Pei Jing's red ears, she suddenly felt that the rumored cold-blooded King Zhaoning was actually somewhat cute.

"Your Highness," she deliberately drawled out her tone, "don't you usually watch it?"

Pei Jing took a sip of tea, trying to hide his embarrassment. "How could I possibly read something like this?"

"That's such a pity." Jiang Fei blinked, "I have a few more exciting books, such as "The Prince's Palm Beauty", "Prince, Your Wife is Here to Steal the Bride Again", "The Prince is Panic Because of the Love", and "The Princess's Guide to the Job: Three Hundred Ways to Chase the Prince".

Pei Jing listened to those book titles, and they seemed to be more interesting than the ones Duan Jiu found for him. Why couldn't Duan Jiu find such good ones?

"Do you want to see it?"

Pei Jing came back to his senses and frowned, "How could this prince read such a crude work?"

"Oh." Jiang Fei nodded and stretched out her hand to Duan Jiu, "Let me see it."

Duan Jiu glanced at Pei Jing, and seeing that the prince had no objection, he took out the book "The Domineering Prince Fell in Love with Me" and presented it to him with both hands.

Jiang Fei casually glanced through it and felt that the routines were outdated and not as exciting as modern online novels.

If she hadn't died young, she might have gone on to write storybooks.

"What a crappy book. Read something better next time." Jiang Fei threw the book back.

Duan Jiu held the book and secretly glanced at his prince, his expression looking as if he was insulted.
