Chapter 113: Robbed, but not really robbed
The room fell into a long silence.
Jiang Fei held her breath, and her toes curled up unconsciously because of nervousness.
The broken fragments in his mind gradually pieced together. The last time he came to visit the lay Buddhist, he had already developed murderous intentions towards Pei Jing just by seeing her kneeling in front of the door.
This time she has discovered their secret. If Pei Jing finds out, will she still be alive?
Thinking of this, Jiang Fei stood up suddenly.
Unexpectedly, she squatted for too long and her vision went dark when she stood up. She subconsciously reached out to hold onto something, only to hear a slight "creak" sound. Jiang Fei's heart sank.
She couldn't outrun Pei Jing, so Jiang Fei made up her mind and simply ran back a few steps, pretending to be approaching the thatched cottage.
There was no time to put on her shoes and socks, so she threw them into the lotus pond that was in full bloom. Then the door of the room was opened from the inside, and Pei Jing's gloomy face appeared at the door.
Jiang Fei's heart almost jumped out of her chest. She pretended to be calm and smiled, "I found that the tea here is very delicious. I am going to shamelessly ask you for some."
Pei Jing's eyes swept across Jiang Fei's bare feet like a knife. Her fingers curled up on the bluestone slabs and quietly retracted into the hem of her skirt.
"Then come and get it." Pei Jing smiled faintly.
Jiang Fei felt that the smile was very eerie. She thought that when she went over to him, he would probably pinch her neck and ask her what she heard. Then her neck would twist and he would be gone.
"Are you done visiting? If not, I'll come back this afternoon."
Pei Jing approached step by step with a smile on his face. With every step he took, Jiang Fei's heart seemed to be gripped tighter by an invisible hand.
She subconsciously took a step back, but just as she took a step, Pei Jing spoke.
"Why are you running?" Pei Jing's voice was frighteningly soft. "Didn't you come here to ask for tea?"
Jiang Fei looked past Pei Jing at the monk Qinglian behind him with a look of help, but saw that the monk only frowned slightly, but his expression was extremely calm.
Pei Jing had already stopped in front of Jiang Fei. His eyes swept across her face and then dropped to her toes, which were curled up nervously and exposed from her skirt.
"Jiang Xiaocui." He leaned over slightly and whispered in her ear, "Pretending to have just arrived and heard nothing is just a trick left by this king."
Discovered!
Jiang Fei's whole body froze, alarm bells rang in her heart. She turned around and was about to run, but was pulled back by a strong force, and her whole body almost leaned on Pei Jing's chest.
"Where are the shoes?" Pei Jing's voice sounded above his head.
Jiang Fei swallowed and pointed at the lotus pond, "It fell... fell in there."
Pei Jing looked in the direction of her finger. A few lotus leaves on the surface of the pond were swaying gently, and a faint pink color could be seen floating.
"Pick it up." Pei Jing said coldly.
Jiang Fei felt as if she had been pardoned, and quickly found a bamboo pole to dig it out.
As she dug through the shoes, she wondered what this madman meant. Was he going to kill her somewhere else, not just here with Qinglian Lay Buddhist? She was going to die anyway, so why bother digging through the shoes? How could she escape his clutches?
She was thinking seriously when Pei Jing's cold voice suddenly came from above her head, "Do you want to kill all the lotus flowers in this pond?"
Jiang Fei looked carefully and found that several lotus leaves were punctured by her, but the shoes were nowhere to be found.
She turned around with her neck shrunk, and met Pei Jing's gloomy gaze.
"I can't find it." Jiang Fei stuttered.
Buddhist monk Qinglian stood in the corridor, hesitant to speak. "The lotus leaves are too dense here, I'm afraid it will be difficult to find them. I have some new shoes here that I haven't worn yet. How about..."
"No need." Pei Jing interrupted coldly, strode to the edge of the pool, and picked up Jiang Fei who was still fishing for shoes.
The world was spinning around and Jiang Fei screamed in fear, but the last syllable was cut off by Pei Jing's cold "Shut up".
"Songnian, she's still young." Buddhist Qinglian chased after her a few steps, "Don't scare her."
"Don't worry about our affairs, sir." Pei Jing turned a deaf ear and walked straight out of the yard carrying Jiang Fei.
…
When the figure completely disappeared and nothing could be seen, Mr. Qinglian still maintained his previous posture.
A nun came forward and advised, "The prince has left. It's very sunny outside. You should go inside."
Ms. Qinglian looked at the deserted path outside the courtyard gate and a tear fell. The nun handed her a handkerchief, but she just shook her head.
"He finally has some vitality now."
The nun helped her walk into the house and said, "That's Miss Jiang's great ability."
"Lively and cute, I like that child too. Songnian needs someone as lively and playful as him." Qinglian Jushi paused, "Has that girl been promised to anyone?"
"She's engaged to Wei Sanlang of Dingyuan Marquis's mansion." The nun sighed. "It was arranged years ago. I heard the wedding is scheduled for September. The last time I came to Jinglian Temple, Miss Jiang even lent her the kitchen to cook for Wei Sanlang. I think they're in love."
Lay Buddhist Qinglian pinched the Buddhist beads in his hand and said with a wry smile, "What an injustice."
The nun comforted him, "Don't worry too much. The prince is not one to be wronged. If he really wants it, he will definitely cause a big uproar and disrupt this marriage. I'm afraid the capital will be in turmoil."
The nun went out and brought in the dried medicine soup. The bitter smell immediately filled the room.
"It's time to take the medicine."
Mr. Qinglian took the medicine bowl and drank it all in one gulp without even frowning.
The nun's eyes turned red as she watched, "When you were a young lady, you were most afraid of hardship..."
"The more you endure hardship, the less it feels." Qinglian Jushi put down the empty bowl. "I have to hold on for Songnian for a little longer. As long as I'm around, he'll always care about me more. He's using Songnian to tie me down, and I'm also using him to tie Songnian down."
Ms. Qinglian looked at the lotus pond outside the window, and a tear fell on her hand. The sound was so soft that it was almost inaudible. "In the next life, please don't be born as my child again."
…
Jiang Fei was upside down, and she only saw the ground rapidly receding, and then the ground suddenly moved away. Pei Jing's clothes brushed against the treetops, startling the crows, and she suddenly realized that she was in mid-air.
This time Jiang Fei was so frightened that she didn't even dare to make a sound.
The scenery under Pei Jing's feet was rapidly receding, his robe fluttering in the wind like a flag, and every time he took a deep breath and leaped, he could fly several feet away.
After several ups and downs, Pei Jing finally landed. He carried Jiang Fei past the stunned Duan Jiu and the maid, and said coldly, "Everyone, step back!"
The maid knelt down and said, "Yes."
Duan Jiu watched helplessly as the prince carried Miss Jiang Er into the house and kicked the door shut. He barely had time to close his jaw, which was wide open enough to fit an egg. "Are you really robbing them?"
It's too early to snatch it away. I thought we had to wait until the bride was snatched away.
Although the act of kidnapping the bride is not very authentic, it is very entertaining and interesting. Duan Jiu no longer has the same idea as before. In fact, he really wants to watch it.
But now that the people have been captured, what else can he do as a guard? He can't go and inform the enemy, so he can only clean up the mess.
Thinking of this, Duan Jiu stopped the maid who was about to retreat to the outside of the courtyard, "Wait, go and boil water, boil plenty of water, we have to fill the bathtub."
