Chapter 164 Shura Field
Wei Mingzhen's face was gloomy, and even more stern in the moonlight: "There is something that I have been puzzled about. I hope Your Highness can explain it to me."
"Why should I answer your question?" Pei Jing sneered and was about to leave.
Wei Mingzhen stepped forward and asked, "Your Highness, why are you visiting the Jiang residence so late at night?"
"Why should I explain my actions to you?" Pei Jing straightened his sleeves slowly.
Wei Mingzhen lowered his voice and said, "If Your Majesty is here to see Rufei, please respect yourself. She is already engaged."
"Engagement?" Pei Jing turned around and suddenly approached. "Wei Mingzhen, do you think that engagement paper can stop me?"
Wei Mingzhen clenched his fists tightly in his sleeves: "Your Highness, are you going to take my wife by force?"
"Wife?" Pei Jing sneered, "Did she marry you? As long as she doesn't enter the Wei family, she will be my wife sooner or later."
Wei Mingzhen's eyes were filled with rage, and he sneered, "Your Highness, as a member of the royal family, has no intention of upholding propriety and integrity, and has resorted to such despicable behavior. Does that mean that after Rufei and I get married, Your Highness will also come and break into our bridal chamber?"
When Duan Jiu heard the word "new house", he knew that something bad was going to happen.
Pei Jing's eyes suddenly darkened, and murderous aura surged from his body. He suddenly pulled out the sword from Duan Jiu's waist. With a flash of cold light, the tip of the sword was against Wei Mingzhen's throat.
"Wei, Ming, Zhen." Pei Jing's voice was as cold as ice. "Are you seeking death?"
The blade was close to his skin, and Wei Mingzhen could clearly feel the coldness of the blade.
"Your Highness, you can kill me, but..." He raised his lips with a sarcastic smile, "If you kill me, Ru Fei won't have room for anyone else in her heart."
Pei Jing's fingers were crackling, as if Wei Mingzhen would be beheaded in the next second.
The two were on the verge of a fight, and Duan Jiu's eyes kept darting between them, fearing that the prince would be furious and kill Wei Mingzhen.
Just as I was about to step forward to persuade him, I heard a familiar voice coming from across the wall.
"Why did Third Young Master Wei come so late?"
Then the maid's voice came, "I don't know either. The Third Young Master said he was waiting for the young lady at the back door."
Pei Jing knew the layout of the Jiang Mansion very well. Inside the wall was a small garden with a winding path leading to the back door, which was less than three meters behind Wei Mingzhen.
Jiang Fei's voice gradually moved towards the back door.
Wei Mingzhen challenged in a low voice, "Why don't you take action, Your Majesty? If you don't, someone will come."
Pei Jing's eyes flashed, he stared at the lantern at the back door of Jiang Mansion behind Wei Mingzhen for a moment, then threw the knife to Duan Jiu.
Seeing this, Wei Mingzhen smiled confidently, "Thank you, Your Highness, for not killing me."
Pei Jing was no fool; how could he not see Wei Mingzhen's intention? "It's not that I don't want to kill you, it's that I don't want to stain her eyes with blood."
"Since Your Majesty won't kill me," Wei Mingzhen lowered his voice and said, "How about we make a bet? Let's bet on who is in Rufei's heart."
The back door creaked open, and Jiang Fei came out holding a lantern, looking around in confusion. "Third Young Master Wei?"
The two of them faced each other in the darkness. It was not until Jiang Fei called out "Third Young Master Wei" for the second time that Wei Mingzhen raised his voice and said, "I'm here."
He stared at Pei Jing, slowly took a few steps back, then turned around and walked towards the light.
Jiang Fei watched Wei Mingzhen walk out of the darkness and looked towards the other end of the alley in confusion, "What is the Third Young Master doing there?"
Wei Mingzhen smiled gently at her and said softly, "I just saw a figure and thought the house was robbed, so I went to check it out."
Jiang Fei's heart skipped a beat. Pei Jing always liked to climb over the wall from here. Could it be that she had run into Pei Jing?
"Where's that person?"
"I was mistaken, there was no one here." His tone was still gentle, but there was a hint of coldness in his eyes.
Jiang Fei breathed a sigh of relief, withdrew her gaze from the darkness, and looked at Wei Mingzhen's face in the light of the lantern. She always felt that Wei Mingzhen was a little different tonight, with a bit more sharpness between his brows.
She hesitated and said, "It's so late, what's the matter with you, Third Young Master, coming to see me?"
Wei Mingzhen took the lantern from her hand and said gently, "Why are you calling me Third Young Master again? What should I call you?"
Jiang Fei pursed her lips and said, "Sanlang."
In the darkness, Pei Jing's hands suddenly clenched.
Wei Mingzhen smiled and raised his hand to tuck a strand of hair hanging from her temple behind her ear. Jiang Fei subconsciously stepped back, and then stopped abruptly when she remembered their relationship.
Wei Mingzhen's hand faltered in mid-air for a moment, then he withdrew it nonchalantly. A gloomy look flashed across his eyes, but he quickly regained his gentle demeanor.
"I tried on the wedding dress today, and thinking about how you would look in it, I couldn't sleep at night." Wei Mingzhen's voice was low and gentle, and he gently held her hand.
Jiang Fei looked at the two people's clasped hands. Wei Mingzhen seemed a little abnormal tonight.
He usually observes etiquette, and speaks with moderation when interacting with her, always keeping a proper distance. But tonight he seems like a different person, and I can even smell a hint of alcohol when I get close to him.
"Have you been drinking?"
"I had a few drinks with Ziqing and the others," Wei Mingzhen smiled, "and took advantage of the alcohol to act a little crazy towards you. If you don't like it, I'll be more restrained in the future."
"It's okay, it's okay. Just a little drink will soothe you." Jiang Fei calmly pulled her hand out, took the lantern and said, "Let me get it."
Wei Mingzhen's eyes dimmed slightly as she pulled her hand away. "Rufei, I've been wondering, are you really willing to marry me?"
"What?" Jiang Fei gripped the lantern pole tightly, as if Wei Mingzhen had seen through the secret in her heart.
"Do you remember what I said to you in the pavilion on the day I came to propose marriage?"
Jiang Fei thought for a moment and said, "The husband is responsible, the wife is responsible."
Wei Mingzhen smiled. "You said you were willing to marry me then. After all this time, I still haven't asked you if you've changed your mind, if you're willing to marry me?"
Jiang Fei's heart skipped a beat. Could it be that Wei Mingzhen discovered something?
"Why do you say that, Sanlang?" Jiang Fei raised her eyes and said, "Our wedding date has been set, so of course I am willing to marry you."
Pei Jing leaned against the wall, closed his eyes in the darkness, clenched his fists, and his nails almost dug into his flesh.
Wei Mingzhen's joyful voice came from the light, like a slap in Pei Jing's face.
"That's great," Wei Mingzhen said with a smile, "I'm attracted to you. Do you feel the same way about me?"
For some reason, Jiang Fei's heart skipped a beat when Pei Jing said he liked her, but when she heard Wei Mingzhen say he liked her, she had no reaction at all.
"Ru Fei?"
"Yeah, I'm the same as you." Jiang Fei responded vaguely.
The halo of the lantern flickered between the two of them, but Jiang Fei's gaze unconsciously drifted deeper into the alley.
It was pitch black there, but she always felt as if a pair of eyes were watching them.
"It's getting late." Wei Mingzhen raised his hand and touched her face, "You go in first."
Jiang Fei smiled and said, "Then be careful on the road."
Jiang Fei stood inside the door, listening to the sound of the wheels fading away. She opened the door and walked a distance in the direction where Wei Mingzhen had just come with a lantern. The alley was quiet and there was no one there.
