Chapter 170: Bride Robbery
Jiang Rulin had been raised in seclusion and had never seen such a scene before. She was so frightened that her legs went weak on the spot.
Jiang Fei immediately recognized Pei Jing's voice, waved her hand to let the matchmaker leave, and walked to the door holding up her skirt.
Pei Jing stood tall and graceful in the yard, still dressed in a black brocade robe. His whole body exuded a sinister aura, making the bright red around him look a bit eerie.
As soon as Pei Jing's eyes fell on Jiang Fei, his face darkened.
This wedding dress, the jewels and jade on her head, and the makeup on her face were all prepared for another person.
Pei Jing walked towards her step by step.
The bridesmaid had never met Prince Zhaoning before, and she thought the guest had taken the wrong way. She stepped forward, bowed, and said with a forced smile, "Sir, you can't barge into the bride's boudoir. You..."
Before she finished her words, Pei Jing glanced over and Xinniang felt as if she had fallen into an icy cave, and the rest of her words were stuck in her throat.
"This is King Zhaoning." Jiang Fei hurriedly reminded, so as to prevent those who didn't know from angering Pei Jing.
The bridesmaid was so frightened that her legs went weak and she staggered to the side.
Jiang Fei watched Pei Jing approaching step by step. With every step he took, the temperature around him seemed to drop a little bit. Even the joy in the yard was frozen by the coldness emanating from his body.
Princess Anping stepped forward bravely and said, "Prince Zhaoning, today is Ah Fei's wedding day. If Your Majesty would like to attend the wedding, please take a seat in the front hall."
Pei Jing did not stop and did not even glance at Princess Anping.
He walked straight to Jiang Fei, raised his hand to touch the beaded curtain hanging from her head, and then his face turned cold, "Get out!"
"Zhao——"
Jiang Fei raised his hand to stop him. No one here knew Pei Jing better than him. It was obvious that he was on the verge of getting angry and blood might even be shed.
"You guys go out first, don't let what's happening here spread to the outer courtyard."
The people in the room went out one after another. Jiutao was still holding the door, staring at the room with a fierce look on her face. Wen Zhu pulled her but she didn't react.
"It's okay, Jiutao," Jiang Fei comforted her, "Go wait outside."
Jiutao retreated reluctantly. Pei Jing waved his sleeves and the two doors slammed shut.
Pei Jing didn't say anything. He walked around Jiang Fei and slowly came to the dressing table. He picked up a hairpin, looked at it, and threw it back.
Jiang Fei didn't understand what Pei Jing was doing here. Could it be that he just came to see her put on makeup?
"Did you come here to tell me something?"
Pei Jing turned around and looked at her, "Are you anxious?"
Jiang Fei looked at the clock on the table and said, "The bride's party is coming soon. If you have anything to say, just say it. I don't care about auspicious signs or the sight of blood."
"Of course I know you don't care." Pei Jing suddenly chuckled, "So I've prepared a backup plan."
Jiang Fei's expression changed, "What do you want to do?"
Pei Jing found her nervous expression particularly annoying. He exerted force with his hand and the hairpin in his hand instantly turned into powder.
Pei Jing shook the dust off his hands and said, "It's just a matter of tripping Wei Mingzhen up on the road and making him miss the auspicious time. This little time is enough for me to finish what I need to do."
Jiang Fei suddenly became alert.
What was the right thing to do? What did Pei Jing want to do to her before Wei Mingzhen arrived?
Jiang Fei quietly took two steps back and ran towards the door before Pei Jing turned around.
Unexpectedly, before his hand touched the door, a gust of wind blew from behind, his waist suddenly tightened, and he fell into a cold embrace.
Pei Jing put one arm around her waist and covered her lips with the other, whispering in her ear, "Shh, don't shout, it will be fine in a moment."
He raised his hand and took off the pearls and jade from her hair until only her black hair was left, then he pulled at her belt.
"Um..." Jiang Fei widened her eyes and struggled desperately in his arms.
"Be good." Pei Jing held her tightly, stripping her clothes while coaxing her, "This wedding dress doesn't suit you, and I don't like it either. Just take it off."
His voice was steady, but his hands were shaking as he moved. He held her firmly in front of him, not even daring to let her turn around, afraid to see the fear and resentment in her eyes.
He quickly stripped off the wedding dress, leaving only the inner garment.
Jiang Fei's body was shaking uncontrollably, not because of the cold, but because of the fear of the unknown.
Pei Jing couldn't bear it after all, so he patted her back and said, "Don't be afraid, you'll be fine after a good sleep. When you wake up, everything will be over."
Jiang Fei only felt a big hand holding her neck, then her eyes went black and she knew nothing.
Pei Jing caught her limp body, picked her up sideways, strode towards the bed in the inner room, and gently put her down.
Then he walked over, opened the wardrobe, picked up a skirt and prepared to put it on her. Just as he was about to close the wardrobe, his eyes suddenly fixed.
Winter clothes were piled up on the bottom layer of the closet, and a piece of clothing was visible from under her clothes. The dark black pattern on it looked out of place among her clothes.
Pei Jing put down her skirt and pulled out the black piece of clothing and unfolded it.
It was a cloak, the one he put on her to tease her when they first met. He didn't expect it to still be there.
He walked over and wrapped Jiang Fei completely in his cloak, leaving only half of her little face exposed. She slept soundly.
The door creaked open, and the people kneeling in the yard looked up, their faces suddenly changing.
"This... this is unacceptable..."
Princess Anping was the first to rush forward, "Your Highness! What are you doing? Ah Fei is getting married soon, and you are..."
Pei Jing hugged Jiang Fei, who was wrapped tightly in a cloak, and said coldly: "For her sake, I will not touch you, but you should not push your luck and think you can influence my thoughts."
"But this is not what Ah Fei wants." Princess Anping said in a deep voice: "Does the prince not even care about her thoughts?"
"If I had cared about her, I would have had to watch her marry someone else." Pei Jing smiled lazily, "It just so happens that I haven't learned how to write 'compromise'."
"you--"
Just as he finished speaking, the gate of the west wing was suddenly knocked open.
Jiang Bingshi rushed in aggressively with a dozen servants. When he saw the situation in the yard, Jiang Bingshi was suddenly struck by lightning.
Earlier, Jiang Bingshi received a message saying that the wedding procession was delayed on the road, so he asked the maid to hurry to the west wing to inform them.
The maid went to the west wing, but found the door closed and there was no sound inside. She peeked through the crack in the door and saw people kneeling on the ground. Some of them had knives on their necks. It seemed that they were here to seek revenge or to kidnap the bride. She hurried to report to Jiang Bingshi.
So Jiang Bingshi and Yao Shi hurried over with their servants, but they didn't expect that the person who wanted to steal the bride was actually King Zhaoning.
"Your Majesty..."
Pei Jing: "Get lost!"
Jiang Bingshi's legs went weak and he almost fell to his knees. Even his voice changed. "Your Highness, this is unacceptable. Today is Ru Fei's wedding day."
Pei Jing sneered and tightened his grip on Jiang Fei. "If you don't move aside, I don't mind turning this happy occasion into a sad one."
