Chapter 234 Heartache
"What? You can't say it?" Pei Jing sneered, his eyes sweeping over everyone in the room. "Are you still ashamed of those dirty things?"
Pei Jing looked down at Yao, "Do you mean to trade her life for a disaster, and be knocked unconscious by your daughter? Or do you mean to deprive her of her food every day, so that she can't even have a full meal?"
Yao trembled all over and hugged Jiang Chenglang tightly, causing Jiang Chenglang to struggle uncomfortably.
"Mother, please let me go."
Yao Shi pretended not to hear and tried to defend herself, "Your Majesty, please understand. This is totally untrue..."
"No?" Pei Jing's expression grew even colder. "You couldn't stand her, so you ordered the maids to pull her hair and slam her against a pillar, and pricked her with needles. Your daughter Jiang Rulin took her out on her whenever she was unhappy, and you saw it all, but you pretended not to see it, even smiling and praising your daughter for her good temper. Haven't you done these things, too?"
The color drained from Yao's face. She looked around in panic, only to see that everyone was staring at her with strange eyes.
Jiang Fei suddenly turned around and looked at Pei Jing.
Some of these things she only vaguely knew after she regained her memory, and some she didn't even know at all. How did Pei Jing know them so clearly?
Pei Jing felt her gaze, glanced at her sideways, his eyes filled with deep pity, then turned his head and continued to stare at Yao.
He let go of Jiang Fei, leaned over to look at Yao, and asked with a smile, "You come and tell me, each and every one of these things, are they enough for me to... skin you and your daughter alive?"
Old Madam Jiang was so angry that she pounded the bed. "What a sin! How could you have done such a thing?!"
Her face was ashen, her chest heaving violently, and she was clearly furious. "Although our Jiang family isn't a noble one, such a vicious thing has never happened to us! You, you actually allowed Rulin to bully my sisters like this, and even helped cover it up?!"
Yao had already turned pale and collapsed to the ground, and her arms around Jiang Chenglang loosened.
Jiang Chenglang was so frightened that his face turned pale. He was still young and had never heard such horrifying words. He didn't understand why his mother and third sister did such a thing to his second sister. He just thought that such a mother was terrible.
He glanced timidly at his distraught mother, then quickly glanced at Jiang Fei and quickly broke away from Yao.
He crawled and ran to Jiang Fei, grabbed the corner of Jiang Fei's clothes, hid half of his body behind her, and looked timidly at his familiar yet unfamiliar mother with his eyes open.
The old lady coughed and wheezed twice, then pointed at Yao and said, "Cheng Lang is still young. If he continues to be taught by you, won't he become as evil as you?"
Hearing the old lady's words, Yao suddenly came to her senses. She hurriedly knelt and crawled to the old lady's bedside, crying, "Mother, please understand! It's not that I meant to do this. It's really Jiang Rufei who is undisciplined and has repeatedly contradicted me. She deserves it!"
Old Madam Jiang was stunned when she heard this. She grabbed the teacup on the bedside table and threw it at Yao. "You have no shame, but I still have my dignity. At this point, you are still pushing the blame onto others. I think you are crazy!"
The teacup shattered at Yao's feet, but she didn't feel the heat. She pointed at Jiang Fei and said, "It's her fault...it's all her fault!"
Pei Jing's eyes were filled with anger, and he raised his foot to kick, but his wrist was gently pulled by Jiang Fei.
He turned his head to look at her and saw that her eyes were on Jiang Chenglang. The child was grabbing the corner of Jiang Fei's clothes and his body was shaking.
Jiang Fei shook her head and said softly, "Let's go first."
"You can't take Chenglang away!" Yao suddenly got up from the ground like crazy and reached out to grab Jiang Chenglang's arm.
"Cheng Lang is my son! No one can take him away from me!"
Jiang Chenglang was frightened by her ferocious appearance and screamed. He shrank behind Jiang Fei, holding her clothes tightly, not even daring to stick his head out.
Before Pei Jing could make a move, two maids grabbed Yao from the left and right.
Yao was still struggling desperately, yelling, "Let me go! That's my son! Jiang Rufei, you bitch, you can't take Cheng Lang away!"
"This is outrageous!" The old lady took a few deep breaths. "I'm not dead yet. I still have the final say in this family!"
Jiang Fei patted Jiang Chenglang with her hand and said softly, "Don't be afraid, Second Sister is here."
Jiang Chenglang buried his face in her, his body still trembling, but he responded obediently with a "hmm".
Madam Jiang was panting on the bed. Seeing Yao's turmoil, she said, "Catch her and send her back. Lock her up in the room. No one is allowed to let her out without my order, ahem...!"
"Let's go." Jiang Fei said again.
Pei Jing was silent for a moment, and finally suppressed his anger. He looked at Old Madam Jiang seriously, turned around, and walked out with Jiang Fei in his arms.
When passing by Duan Jiu who was standing in the yard, his eyes paused on Duan Jiu's face for a moment.
Duan Jiu had followed the prince for many years, and he understood what he meant with just one look and nodded.
Jiang Chenglang held Jiang Fei's hand tightly and followed her closely. When he passed by Yao, he quickly turned his face away.
After leaving the Jiang family's gate and getting into the carriage, Jiang Chenglang hugged Jiang Fei's arm tightly and asked softly, "Second sister, did it hurt when mother hit you?"
Jiang Fei subconsciously went to see Pei Jing first.
The lines on his profile were extremely tense, his jawline was as hard as stone, and the hostility he had just suppressed seemed to surge up in his eyes again, and even the corners of his eyes were tinged with red.
Jiang Fei's heart moved slightly, and she gently held Pei Jing's hand and said, "I don't feel any pain."
Pei Jing turned to look at her, the red in his eyes had not faded, but when he met the eyes that held his own, it slowly subsided, leaving only an inextricable pity.
He held her hand tightly with his backhand, gently stroking the back of her hand with his fingertips, without saying another word.
…
Jiang Chenglang was still young. After experiencing this misfortune and suddenly moving to a new place, he couldn't sleep at night.
Jiang Fei cleaned out a room for him in Xiesongzhai, which was not far from her and Pei Jing's bedroom, making it convenient for him to look after him.
After settling Jiang Chenglang down, when Jiang Fei returned to the room, Pei Jing had already changed into his pajamas and was waiting for her by the bed.
"How's the little fat boy?"
"He fell asleep. Fortunately, this child is carefree and will be fine after eating." Jiang Fei unbuttoned his coat, with a hint of fatigue in his tone.
After washing up, the two lay on the bed.
Pei Jing hugged her from behind, his chin resting on the top of her head, his arms clasped tightly.
Just thinking about the hardships and grievances she had endured in her childhood, he felt his heart tighten.
Jiang Fei could feel his emotions, so she covered his hand around her waist with her backhand and patted it gently, "It's okay, it's really okay, I'm not in pain."
She wasn't pretending to be strong, she really didn't feel any pain.
Those were the original owner's experiences, and she only knew a few words from books. Seeing him so distressed, she felt distressed too, but she didn't know how to say it.
Pei Jing didn't say anything, but just hugged her tighter.
Jiang Fei was silent for a moment, and couldn't help asking: "When did you know those things?"
