Chapter 247 I'm Angry
The candlelight flickered on the copper stand, casting an ambiguous dim light into the tent.
Jiang Fei was wrapped in a quilt and huddled in the corner of the bed, with her back to the outside. Even her hair showed the stubborn expression of "I'm very angry".
Pei Jing brought the porridge to the bed and sat down. "It's just warmed up in the kitchen. It has candied dates in it. They're your favorite."
"I don't want to eat!" Jiang Fei buried her face deeper, "Get out!"
What time is it now? What kind of good person would drink porridge so late at night? Doesn't this clearly tell the servants what they have been busy with all night?
Pei Jing was not angry even after being scolded. He put the bowl on the low table beside the bed, lowered his eyes to look at her back, and his gaze fell on the conspicuous red marks on her neck.
He knew in his heart that the marks he had deliberately left on the areas covered by the quilt would only be more numerous, from his shoulder blades to his waist, and all the way down...
Just thinking about it made him unable to hide the secret joy in his eyes.
Pei Jing gently brushed her hair scattered on the quilt with his fingertips, "But if you don't eat, the servants will probably think you fainted."
Jiang Fei sat up suddenly, hugging the quilt, with a little red in the corners of her eyes, "How dare you say that? Who is to blame?"
As she said that, she grabbed a soft pillow and threw it at him.
Pei Jing reached out to catch it, and pulled the person into his arms. He tightened his arms and held the person tightly. "If you haven't done anything wrong, this king won't punish you."
"What did I do wrong?" Jiang Fei struggled in his arms but couldn't get away. She raised her hand and punched his arm in anger. "How dare you criticize me? You take a shower every day before coming back. Are you trying to cover up the smell?"
Pei Jing's body stiffened, and he felt inexplicably guilty. "Anyway, I've never cheated on anyone, nor have I ever been close to anyone."
"What about the wine?"
Pei Jing was stunned by the question, his face full of confusion, "What's wrong with Duan Jiu?"
Jiang Fei looked at him with her chin up, "What about you two taking a bath together?"
"What?" Pei Jing's expression was as if he was struck by lightning, as if he didn't hear clearly, and as if he couldn't believe his ears.
He had lived for twenty years, and this was the most outrageous thing he had ever heard.
"Duan Jiu and I, taking a bath together?"
"That's right." Jiang Fei said firmly.
Pei Jing immediately reached out to touch her forehead. Was her brain broken again? "Why are you talking nonsense again?"
Jiang Fei slapped his hand away, "I have a witness!"
Pei Jing was both angry and amused, "Your words are a bit disgusting to me."
He and Duan Jiu took a bath together? He didn't dare to think about it. If he thought about it, he would have to send Duan Jiu to the border tomorrow to avoid being offended by seeing him.
"Who is the witness?"
"I couldn't possibly betray her. I was saying—"
"Is it Wen Zhu?" Pei Jing narrowed his eyes. "Duan Jiu couldn't possibly make up such nonsense."
Jiang Fei stopped talking immediately, stiffened her neck and relaxed, "Then you two smell the same."
Pei Jing was at a loss for words. "We were out on business and our clothes got dirty, so we each took a shower in our own room. As for the smell, it's because we used soap nuts from the same batch."
This explanation was reasonable, so Jiang Fei tentatively believed it. "Then how do you explain that you are no longer interested in my body?"
Where does this speculation come from?
Pei Jing didn't say anything, but he suddenly tightened his arms and lowered his head to bite her lips.
Jiang Fei felt pain from his bite and turned her head away to avoid him.
"Not interested?" Pei Jing lifted the quilt and stroked the red marks with his fingers, rubbing them with force and deliberateness. "Who was it that just now crying and saying no? If I really had other thoughts, how could I have the energy to come back and torment you?"
These words were so blunt that they were almost shameless. Jiang Fei's face flushed red. She reached out to push him away, but he pushed her back onto the bed.
"Let me feel it again, who do I care about?"
The candle on the copper stand was only half burned out, and the wick was emitting a few last sparks.
Jiang Fei fell limp in Pei Jing's arms, as if all the bones in her body had been pulled out. She was too lazy to even lift her eyelids and could only let him hold her.
Pei Jing looked down at the person in his arms and brushed her hair with his fingertips. "Are you calm?"
Jiang Fei snorted dejectedly, "Quiet."
Pei Jing chuckled softly, lowered his head and kissed the top of her head, "A few days ago, you said you were tired and you endured it out of pity for you, but you, on the other hand, kept thinking about this and that. I won't feel sorry for you anymore in the future."
Jiang Fei turned around and faced away from him.
"What's wrong again?" Pei Jing hugged her from behind.
"You still lied to me." Jiang Fei's voice was muffled. "Although those were misunderstandings before, you clearly had other things that you refused to tell me."
Pei Jing paused for a moment before whispering, "Those things are very dirty. I don't want you to get involved."
Jiang Fei didn't say anything, her back was tense, and she was obviously still in a bad mood.
It was almost dawn outside the window. Pei Jing felt his heart sink as he saw her looking so awkward.
He approached her cautiously from behind, resting his chin on the crook of her neck and rubbing it. "I was wrong. I'll tell you everything next time, okay?"
Jiang Fei didn't respond, but her ears pricked up quietly.
Pei Jing pondered for a moment, then leaned against her and said, "Okay, Yao's is in my hands."
Jiang Fei was shocked for only a moment and then calmed down.
"She's not dead yet, but she's not far from death. I thought she could hold on for a while longer." Pei Jing said softly, "I learned a lot about your childhood from her."
Jiang Fei figured it out. Perhaps he had tortured Yao, and in order to avoid being contaminated by the smell, he bathed outside every day.
"That small courtyard..."
"That's a guard's home. Perhaps you didn't pay much attention to his appearance."
"What did Yao tell you?"
After Jiang Fei asked, she felt the aura around Pei Jing cool down a little. "She said that when you were sick, you kept saying that you couldn't die and that you had to take care of me."
Jiang Fei was stunned, her heart full of doubts. Wasn't that what happened after she returned to the modern era? Why did she still have memories?
"System, what's going on?" Jiang Fei asked in his heart.
The system said, "You're finally done. Pei Jing is truly amazing."
"Let's get down to business."
"Oh, that's simple," the system explained. "It's a normal phenomenon. The host's obsession is so deep that it forms a subconscious mind within a certain body. When the original body's soul is weak and its willpower is weakened, the subconscious mind will take over. This is what Pei Jing said about the sick person who always wanted to keep him alive and to support him. I can see that you really want to support him."
The system teased, "You've only known how to support men since you were little, host. You have the potential to become a wealthy woman."
Pei Jing didn't hear her reply for a long time, thinking she was unhappy, "What's wrong? If you're angry, I'll let her go, but she probably won't survive."
Jiang Fei turned around in his arms and hugged him tightly, "Is that why you secretly said sorry to me?"
"Did you hear that?" Pei Jing was startled, then tightened his arms, lowered his head to smell the fragrance in her hair, and said in a muffled voice: "Hmm."
"So what you've been doing secretly these days is interrogating Yao?"
Pei Jing said: "I also did some other things."
He hesitated for a moment, but finally said without hiding anything, "The Emperor wants to pass the throne to Pei Yi. If Pei Yi takes the throne, I will have no way to survive."
He looked down at her, "Are you scared?"
Jiang Fei looked up at him, smiled and shook her head, "Don't be afraid, I know you can do it."
"You trust me so much?"
"Of course, you will definitely sit on the throne of the emperor."
Pei Jing's heart seemed to be burned. He lowered his head and rubbed her nose. "When the time comes, you will wear the most gorgeous phoenix robe, stand beside me, and be worshipped by all the people."
"We will have one child, just one. They don't need to learn all those intrigues. They just need to grow up peacefully. I like them regardless of whether they are a boy or a girl. When they are able to take on responsibilities, I will pass the throne to them."
"When the time comes..." Pei Jing let out a soft laugh, "I'll take you away. We'll go to the south of the Yangtze River to see the misty rain, and to the north of the Great Wall to see the wind and snow. We'll see all the beautiful scenery in the world. When we're too old to walk anymore, we'll be buried together in the imperial mausoleum. When we open our eyes in the next life, we'll still be able to see each other."
