Chapter 53 Redemption

Chapter 53 Redemption

The woman was holding a child in her arms. She shook her head at her in panic and ran away.

Jiang Fei caught another person running in the opposite direction, "Brother, what happened over there?"

"How would I know?" the middle-aged man said, "I was just about to go and take a look."

Jiang Fei followed the man, and Jiu Tao quickly grabbed her and said, "Miss, you'd better not join in the fun."

What a joke, Jiang Fei is a Chinese who loves to watch the fun all his life.

She had been pretending to be sick at home for so long that she almost got sick. Now that she finally got out, how could she be absent from such a lively atmosphere?

Jiu Tao held her tightly, "There are so many people here, what if they bump into each other?"

Jiang Fei almost laughed out loud.

She had squeezed through the subway during the morning rush hour, where it was packed like a pancake. Could there be as many people as in the subway? Would she feel helpless being squeezed into the air even if she bumped into someone else?

"You're here," she soothed him, "you're so strong, if someone comes over, just throw them out."

Jiang Fei pulled Jiutao into the crowd. The further they went in, the fewer people there were, but more people were running out. Jiang Fei even saw the big brother who had said he wanted to join in the fun running out with a nervous look on his face.

The eldest brother also saw her and kindly reminded her as he passed by her, "Run quickly, the mad king is inside..."

The man ran away before he could finish his words.

Jiang Fei was shocked. Could the "Mad King" be Pei Jing?

After all, when it comes to madness, no one in the capital can compare to him.

"Miss, are you still going?" Jiutao asked nervously.

Jiang Fei hesitated for a moment, then pulled Jiutao and quickened their pace to walk in the opposite direction of the crowd.

After turning the corner, Jiang Fei slowed down.

In the middle of the street, Pei Jing stood with his head down, his whole body seemed to be frozen.

There were no corpses scattered all around, nor was there a river of blood, but the people around him all retreated, and even his bodyguard Duan Jiu did not dare to approach.

"Hey." Jiang Fei called out, "Pei, what are you doing here, Your Majesty?"

Pei Jing's ears were buzzing, and all that echoed in his ears were the crisp sounds of whips and the broken and twisted laughter of human teeth.

"You little bastard, let's see if you dare to run away!"

"I'll beat you to death!"

"Run! Why aren't you running anymore? Are you too tired to run anymore?"

Amidst the curses and sinister laughter, another clear voice suddenly appeared, saying something to him, but he couldn't hear it clearly.

Pei Jing shook his half-conscious head and looked forward.

The curses faded away, and only his own heavy breathing remained in his ears.

The bloody world was torn open by the voice, and a blurry figure stood in the light, just like what he saw when he was almost starving to death on the street and the dirty little girl holding the steamed bun woke him up.

"Grass bud," Pei Jing murmured, "Save me..."

Jiang Fei saw the face clearly when he raised his head.

There was no madness in those phoenix eyes that sometimes smiled and sometimes smiled, but only a kind of fragility that was almost pleading. Her thin lips trembled slightly, as if she was enduring some great pain.

Jiang Fei subconsciously took a few steps towards Pei Jing. Suddenly, a dodging figure rushed towards her and hit her left arm which had not yet healed.

Jiang Fei covered her arm and gasped in pain. After she recovered, she looked at Pei Jing again, only to see someone who walked up to Pei Jing faster than her. It was Wei Ciying.

"Prince, what's wrong with you?" Wei Ciying asked.

Pei Jing finally regained some clarity of mind, and he softly called out the name that he had been whispering between his teeth.

"Grass sprouts..."

Then the whole person fell forward.

Wei Ciying subconsciously spread her arms and was almost knocked down by him. Fortunately, Duan Jiu rushed over quickly and supported Pei Jing.

Pei Jing's eyes were tightly closed, his face as pale as paper. Wei Ciying looked at him, "What's wrong, Your Highness?"

Duan Jiu hesitated for a moment. His prince cared so much about Miss Wei. If he let her see the corpse of the human trafficker inside, he would probably be angry.

He said, "The prince is ill, and this place is too chaotic. The Northern Army responsible for the security of the capital will arrive soon. Miss Wei should leave quickly."

Wei Ciying nodded and watched Duan Jiu carry Pei Jing onto the carriage. When she turned around, she saw Jiang Fei standing not far away.

"Sister-in-law!" Wei Ciying asked happily, "Why are you here?"

Jiang Fei stepped forward and said, "I was going to visit Princess Anping today, and I saw that the road was blocked, so I came to see you. Why are you here too?"

Wei Ciying pointed and said, "I was buying something over there when I saw a swarm of people outside, so I came out to see what was going on. I don't know what happened, but why did everyone run away?"

She is also a person who loves to watch the fun and yearns for the rivers and lakes and the countryside, otherwise she would not have fallen in love with Jiang Linyuan.

Jiang Fei was still confused. Did Pei Jing have such great ability? It was not possible that he could scare the people into fleeing just by going to that station.

She stretched her neck to look around, and just as she was about to look away, her eyes fell on a dental clinic, and a chill instantly surged up from the bones.

A man was lying in the dental shop with a hole in his chest. Large patches of blood were spread out under him. His chest was motionless, and he was probably no longer breathing.

"Sister-in-law?" Wei Ciying noticed her strangeness and looked in the direction she was looking.

"Don't look!" Jiang Fei covered Wei Ciying's eyes with her hands, her voice trembling, "Let's... let's go quickly."

She finally understood why the people were so terrified. The rumored capricious King Zhaoning really killed people in the street just as it was written in the book.

"What's wrong?" Wei Ciying asked puzzledly.

Jiang Fei forced herself to remain calm and quickly pulled Wei Ciying away. "There's a fight going on. The Northern Army will be here soon. Let's leave quickly to avoid being questioned."

Duan Jiu watched the two young ladies leave, then looked at Pei Jing who was unconscious in the carriage, and fell into deep thought.

When the prince was ill, no one was allowed to approach him, otherwise they would be injured indiscriminately. That was why he had just evacuated the people and was waiting for the prince to wake up or fall asleep.

But as soon as Miss Wei appeared just now, the prince immediately calmed down and even took the initiative to approach her.

So, could it be that Miss Wei is really the same person from that year?

Jiang Fei was uneasy, with Pei Jing's face and the man's body flashing through her mind from time to time. Even when the carriage stopped, her mind was still confused.

"Miss, we're here."

Jiutao jumped down first. Jiang Fei got off the carriage with the help of Jiutao. When she looked up, she saw that the plaque on it was not "Princess's Mansion", but "Zhang Mansion", and the gate of the mansion was not very grand.

A maid was already waiting at the door, and she came forward to greet Jiang Fei when she saw her.

"The princess asked me to come and greet the young lady. It's hot, please come in."

Jiang Fei nodded, and took Jiutao and the maid into Zhang's house.

After walking for a while, Jiang Fei discovered that although the Zhang Mansion was not very grand, it was elegant everywhere.

The bluestone path winds and twists, with lush green bamboos planted on both sides. The breeze blows, and the bamboo leaves rustle, bringing a rare coolness. It can be seen that the owner is an elegant person.
