Chapter 7 Sweet Mouth
Jiang Fei saw him grab the cloak and put it down again, as if he wanted to throw it into the lake several times, but in the end he didn't do it. He threw the cloak back on the stone and walked away.
After he walked away, Jiang Fei sneaked back, picked up the cloak and left.
Male and female guests sat separately at the birthday banquet, and I didn't see Wei Mingzhen again until the banquet was over.
On the way back to the Jiang Mansion, Jiang Fei and her mother Yao rode in the same carriage.
There were so many people at the Marquis' Mansion that it was difficult to ask many questions. Yao Shi couldn't wait any longer and asked as soon as she got on the carriage, "Have you seen the Third Brother of the Wei Family?"
Jiang Fei nodded, "I saw it."
"how?"
"Good."
Yao was dissatisfied with her perfunctory attitude. She glanced at her and said, "Wei Sanlang is a man of noble character and talent. He is not like other young men who only know how to fight cocks and run dogs. Although he is not the eldest son who can inherit the title, he has great ambitions and will definitely achieve great things in the future."
Jiang Fei didn't care whether Wei Sanlang would achieve great things in the future. She wouldn't live more than two years after marrying him anyway, so she just agreed with Yao's words and said, "My daughter thinks so too."
Yao straightened her sleeves and asked slowly, "Have you and Wei Sanlang been able to talk?"
"That's it." Jiang Fei said.
Yao frowned. "Do I need to teach you? What did you say? How did the conversation go? You're like a gourd with its mouth sawed off. You can't utter a word for a long time."
Jiang Fei curled her lips and said, "If I really open my mouth and speak sweetly, I'm afraid your heart won't be able to bear it."
She recounted their conversation in general, omitting how "Wei Mingzhen" pinched her and questioned her, how she cried and demonstrated her absolute competitiveness, and only said that he had decided to marry her and the two of them had reached an agreement.
Yao heaved a sigh of relief. "Don't go out too much these days, and don't cause any more trouble for me."
…
When they returned to the Jiang Mansion, Jiang Rulin was already waiting at the gate. Seeing Yao come back, she enthusiastically went forward to support Yao.
The two men seemed to have forgotten about Jiang Rufei. By the time Jiang Fei got off the carriage, the two men had already entered the gate.
The marriage between Jiang Rufei and Wei Mingzhen was arranged years ago, otherwise it would not have been the turn of Jiang Rufei, the unfavored daughter.
The eldest wife of the Jiang family, Yao, gave birth to two sons and three daughters. The original owner, Jiang Rufei, was the third child in the Jiang family and the second daughter of the eldest wife. Her elder brother Jiang Chengjin and elder sister Jiang Ruyu had already married far away, while Jiang Rufei and Jiang Rulin were still unmarried. She also had a younger brother, Jiang Chenglang, who was only six years old.
The Jiang family is large and prosperous, and is one of the most prominent families in the capital, so the Jiang family mansion is naturally large as well.
Jiang Rufei lived in the remote west wing, but she was a directionally challenged person. She had only walked there once yesterday with a maid. She didn't remember the location, only the general direction, so she had to pick up a maid to lead the way.
As soon as I passed through the moon-shaped door, a voice came from behind me: "Stop!"
Jiang Fei recognized that it was Jiang Rulin's voice, but pretended not to hear it. The footsteps behind her were getting more and more rapid.
"Jiang Rufei, didn't you hear me calling you?"
"Ah?" Jiang Rufei stopped and looked at the maid and asked, "Do we have a dog in our house?"
The maid shook her head, "No."
Jiang Fei deliberately said: "Since you don't have a dog, then why did I keep hearing a dog barking just now?"
Jiang Rulin was so angry that her face turned blue. She rushed forward in two steps and raised her hand to slap Jiang Fei.
"You bitch! How dare you scold me."
Jiang Fei grabbed her wrist and said, "Third sister, why are you so angry?"
"Stop pretending!" Jiang Rulin struggled, "You lied to your mother and said Wei Sanlang would marry you. Wei Sanlang knows about you and Zhao Xingbang, so there's no way he'll marry you."
Jiang Fei was about to speak when a thought flashed through her mind.
Very few people knew about her and Zhao Xingbang's affair, so how could it have reached Wei Mingzhen's ears?
Yes, Jiang Rulin didn't want Wei Mingzhen to marry her. Apart from letting her and Zhao Xingbang be caught in bed, she must have other plans.
"You revealed it to Wei Sanlang on purpose." Jiang Fei's hands gradually clenched.
"What evidence do you have?" Jiang Rulin pulled her hand back forcefully.
Jiang Fei analyzed, "You can't tell Wei Sanlang in person. It would seem you have ulterior motives and he would resent you. So, you bribed the servants around Wei Mingzhen. The maids chatted among themselves and deliberately leaked some information to Wei Mingzhen. He wouldn't realize it was you who did it. He would just think that the matter had become a big news and he would resent me even more."
"Also, the reason you didn't spread the news to everyone is because, after all, we're all members of the Jiang family. If one thing gets in the way, the whole body will be affected. If I lose face in the capital, you won't be much better off either."
Jiang Rulin was stunned. Jiang Rufei analyzed everything word for word. How did she know that?
Isn't this guy usually a fool? How did he suddenly become so smart?
"It seems that I guessed right." Jiang Fei felt secretly happy.
Why didn't she get transported to a palace drama? With such a clear idea, wouldn't she have easily outlasted two emperors in a palace drama?
"So what if you guessed right?" Jiang Rulin said, "You can go to my mother and report me, but no one will believe you."
"Who said I was going to report you?" Jiang Fei approached her and said with a smile, "Why don't I help you?"
Jiang Rulin was stunned. "How, how can I help you? No, Jiang Rufei, do you have any tricks up your sleeve?"
Jiang Fei hooked her finger, waited for Jiang Rulin to come closer, and said, "When I marry Wei Mingzhen, you will be my maidservant, and then I will reward you with a concubine."
"You...how dare you insult me like this." Jiang Rulin was so angry that she raised her hand and slapped him.
This time Jiang Fei didn't hold her hand.
She simply stepped aside and stretched out a foot.
Jiang Rulin was unable to stop in time and hooked Jiang Rufei's foot, causing her to fall flat on her face.
Jiang Fei happily retracted her legs and said, "If you have nothing to do all day, find a class to attend."
Being jealous over a man is not in line with Jiang Fei's core values as a new-age woman. Men are nothing but clouds, and the mission is the important thing.
Not wanting to bother paying attention to Jiang Rulin lying on the ground, Jiang Fei clapped his hands and walked towards his own yard.
When they returned to the courtyard, it was quiet. There was only a maid dozing off under the corridor. She didn't wake up even when Jiang Fei walked past her and into the house.
Jiang Fei picked up the teapot on the table. The teapot was so light that not a drop of tea could be poured out.
He scanned the house and the yard. The flowers in the vase had dried up into dead branches and were not picked up, and the yard also looked like it had not been swept.
Jiang Fei put the teapot down heavily, and with a crisp "pop" sound, the maid jumped in surprise.
