Chapter 95: No More Concubines
Jiang Fei was not only angry, she was almost having a heart attack.
In the book, Pei Jing once imprisoned Wei Ciying. Since Wei Ciying was reborn, she must know about this. What if she put drugs in Pei Jing's soup, and he didn't even know how he died, wouldn't this cut off the possibility of her completing the mission from the source?
She is now an iron-blooded female warrior who will not give up until she completes her mission. Any factors that affect her ability to complete the mission must be nipped in the bud!
"Not just this time, from now on you can't eat anything she touches, do you understand?!"
Duan Jiu was startled by the domineering tone. He saw his prince take a breath, as if he was about to get angry. Apart from the emperor, who else would dare to speak to the prince like this?
Duan Jiu was ready to step forward to mediate the fight, but he saw his prince slowly exhale.
Pei Jing: "I understand."
Duan Jiu's legs went weak and he almost fell down.
No way! Could it be that the prince was ill, and some ghost took over his body while he was in a bad mood?
Jiang Fei nodded with satisfaction, thinking to herself that he was really a guy who bullied the weak and feared the strong.
As soon as she got tough, he lost all his prestige. He didn't know why those people were afraid of him.
She seemed to have completely forgotten how scared she was of this madman when she first came here. It would not be an exaggeration to say that she almost peed herself with fright.
Only then did Jiang Fei have time to carefully look at the person in front of her.
I don't know what material this dress is made of, it's snow-white and semi-transparent, and it's loosely draped over the body. The collar is slightly open, and the outline of the firm chest muscles can be vaguely seen inside. And then...
Pei Jing suddenly reached out and covered her eyes, "What are you looking at?!"
This person's train of thought is really novel. Others subconsciously cover their vital parts, but this person directly covers her eyes.
However, this trick is quite effective. Jiang Fei, the only one in the room who is obsessed with chest and abdominal muscles, can no longer see anything.
"I see you're quite energetic. Could this be a last gasp of energy?"
Jiang Fei blinked, her long eyelashes brushing against Pei Jing's palm, startling him and causing his hand to tremble. "What do you mean by last breath?"
"I heard you were dying."
Pei Jing still kept covering Jiang Fei's eyes. He gave Duan Jiu a look and quickly took his coat and put it on Pei Jing.
"Who told you that I'm going to die?" Pei Jing gathered his clothes tightly, covering up the little bit of scenery he had just seen.
"Isn't that what's being spread out there?" Jiang Fei said, "They say you're dying, and even your coffin is ready. The eunuchs from the palace come every day to see when you'll die."
Pei Jing: "..."
He glanced sideways at Duan Jiu. He had only let people spread the word that he was sick, but he had not let anyone spread the word that he was dying.
Duan Jiu looked innocent. "I...wasn't aware of such a rumor. Perhaps it was just a rumor. Rumors among the people are mostly exaggerated and cannot be fully trusted. I just listened to it. The prince was ill before, but he is almost well now."
This cannot be blamed on him. It was obvious that the prince had been waiting for Miss Jiang to come and visit him, but his face was getting darker day by day. The guards and maids were walking on thin ice, so they had to resort to this desperate measure.
"Is that so?" Jiang Fei asked curiously, "Then isn't the father-in-law here every day to watch him die?"
Duan Jiu said, "The Emperor felt that it was time for His Majesty to marry, so he selected some portraits of noble ladies from aristocratic families and sent them to His Majesty for his review."
Jiang Fei nodded thoughtfully. She remembered that Pei Jing in the book did not marry. She had not touched on this line yet, so there should be no mistakes.
Pei Jing turned his eyes slightly and looked carefully at Jiang Fei's expression. Isn't she panicking?
"Since you're okay," Jiang Fei said, "I'll go back."
Pei Jing moved his lips slightly but didn't say anything.
Duan Jiu quickly said, "Miss Jiang Er is here, but if she doesn't even drink a sip of tea or eat a meal, outsiders might think that our palace is not hospitable enough."
With the idea that it would be a fool not to take advantage of a good opportunity, Jiang Fei decided to stay and taste the delicacies of the palace.
Pei Jing wanted to change clothes, so the maid took Jiang Fei to the flower hall to have tea and wait for a while.
Watching Jiang Fei walk out of the room, Pei Jing made a "tsk" sound.
"I knew she couldn't hold her temper. She came right after Wei Ciying left." He changed the subject, "But her possessiveness is too strong. I just drank the soup made by Wei Ciying, and she reacted so strongly. If I and Wei Ciying were alone in the same room, wouldn't she be furious?"
Pei Jing rubbed the cheek that she had pinched. He didn't expect that this girl had such small hands but such strong hands that her pinching made his cheek hurt.
"How dare you, you actually pinch my face openly!"
Duan Jiuxin said, "Weren't you very cooperative when I pinched you before? You didn't dare to say a word. But when the person left, you started cursing me."
Pei Jing suddenly glanced around, "What's with that expression?"
Duan Jiu remembered the imperial physician's advice and said more things to make the prince happy for the sake of his illness.
"I think what Your Highness said makes sense. Didn't Second Miss Jiang also breathe a sigh of relief when she learned that Your Highness was alright?"
Pei Jing thought for a moment and had some impression. The frown that had formed when he mentioned getting married because she had no reaction suddenly relaxed.
"You tried to act calm, but you still almost tripped when you left the house, didn't you?"
Duan Jiu nodded, "Miss Jiang Er's personality, if the prince marries in the future..."
"A harmonious family brings prosperity," Pei Jing said. "At worst, I won't take a concubine."
"Ah? Taking a concubine?"
Duan Jiu almost fell down again. From what the prince said, did he want to marry Miss Jiang Er as his princess?
"But, Miss Jiang Er's family background."
According to the rules, the Princess of Zhaoning must at least be from a noble family or an important official of the court. The Jiang family has long been declining and there is no way they can get such a marriage.
"It's not anyone else's place to dictate my marriage." Pei Jing slowly fastened his belt. "I've thought about it carefully, and she's actually been interested in me for a long time."
"Huh?" Duan Jiu was confused.
Pei Jing continued, "Once at the Liu residence, when you were not there, she actually said frankly that she loved me till death. However, I thought she was ill at the time and didn't think of this."
It’s over, it’s over, the prince is completely doomed.
Duan Jiu didn't know how to respond. He wanted to say something but stopped himself several times, for fear of touching Pei Jing's crazy nerves.
