Chapter 36 Baby, pay attention to me!
It was clearly at the Wen family's house.
But Shang Chen, this guest, seemed to be much busier than Wen Ling.
Every day, Wen Ling would go downstairs to find him as soon as she opened her eyes. If she was lucky, she would catch him having breakfast at home. If she was unlucky, Shang Chen would have already gone to the city with her brother.
This continued for several days.
Wen Ling felt that something was wrong with him. One day, she couldn't stand it anymore and secretly went to ask Wen He if he knew what they had been doing lately.
Wen He spends more time at home than Shang Chen.
But occasionally, she would go out with them. However, when Wen Ling wanted to go along, her sisters-in-law would drag her shopping, so she had to give up the idea.
"I don't know." Wen He's eyes seemed to be staring intently at the computer screen, but his thoughts had already wandered off somewhere else. "Sis, you know I don't like that kid, why would I pay attention to him, right?"
Wen Ling frowned, looking at him quietly without saying a word.
When Wen He felt guilty, he easily became nervous. When he got nervous, he would unconsciously ramble on about random things. Wen Ling didn't respond at all, so he tentatively called out, "Sister, why aren't you saying anything?"
Wen Ling sniffed, her eyes welling up with tears: "Xiao He, you know, I hate it when people lie to me the most."
Wen He froze, then turned around abruptly to see his sister standing up with a disappointed look on her face, ready to leave. His expression snapped: "Sis—, I'll talk, I'll talk, okay?!"
Wen Ling deliberately kept a straight face and sat back down.
She looked completely submissive, with no sign of tears about to spill from her eyes. Only then did Wen He realize that he had been tricked, and he scratched his head in frustration.
Muttering to himself, "I told you I couldn't hide it from me, but you still insisted on telling me."
Wen Ling was even more curious: "What exactly happened?"
Wen He glanced at her, then suddenly clasped his hands together and pitifully begged for mercy, "Sister, you'll know in a few days. Please don't ask me anymore, okay? I really don't want to be a traitor and get beaten up by Shang Chen."
"..."
Wen Ling thought for a moment. It wasn't her birthday or Shang Chen's birthday recently, so what was he busy with? She dragged her brother along. On the way back to the room, she missed a step and almost fell when a sudden thought flashed through her mind: "Could he be secretly starting a business with his brothers?"
Nothing could be more convincing than this.
But why not tell her? Are you planning to give her the company as a surprise?
Wen Ling scratched her head, unable to figure it out, so she simply stopped thinking about it.
…
Shang Chen sensed that Wen Ling was acting very strangely today.
A couple of days ago, he came home quite late, and Wen Ling didn't say anything. She just clung to him tightly, following him wherever he went. It wasn't until late at night, when they had to go to sleep, that they went back to their respective rooms.
But today, he came back as early as possible, just in time for dinner, and even brought back a blueberry cake, which she didn't even glance at.
"Put it in the refrigerator, I don't want to eat it now."
Shang Chen was still standing in front of her without moving: "Didn't you say yesterday that you wanted to eat here? Why don't you give it a try? Your older brother said this is your favorite cake shop."
Wen Ling didn't say anything, but just leaned back on the sofa to watch the idol drama behind him. Shang Chen mischievously moved to the side, completely blocking her view.
"Ugh." Wen Ling got up and pushed him away. "You're so annoying, stop blocking my view of the TV."
Wen Jing, who was walking by with a lollipop in his mouth, couldn't help but laugh when he saw this scene. He had to quit smoking recently because he was trying to conceive, and he couldn't smoke even though he wanted to, which was very annoying.
Seeing that there was going to be a good show, he eagerly went over, took out his lollipop, and started stirring things up.
"Lingling, let me tell you, this kid is really lucky with women out there. Several women have come up to him asking for his contact information. You'd better teach him a lesson."
Shang Chen glanced at him speechlessly: "Third Brother."
Wen Ling turned around and pointed behind Wen Jing: "Third sister-in-law, Third brother is smoking again. You should tell him to stop."
Wen Jing was so frightened that his mind went blank, and he instinctively hid the lollipop behind his back: "No, honey, I didn't—"
He turned around, but there was no sign of his wife, and he wasn't smoking either. What was he feeling guilty about?
Shang Chen covered his lips with his hand and chuckled softly.
He looked at Wen Ling with doting eyes, knowing in his heart that his girlfriend was standing up for him.
Wen Jing disgustedly pulled the sticky candy off his hand, looked up at Wen Ling, and said in a seemingly aggrieved tone, "Lingling, you've become bad because of him. You never used to treat Third Brother like this."
Wen Ling wasn't fooled: "Third Brother never hid anything from me before."
Wen Jing coughed lightly and glanced at Shang Chen: "Well, I think I heard my wife calling me."
"Wife, I'm here~" Wen Jing said in an affected voice as he walked upstairs.
Shang Chen touched his nose, put the cake on the coffee table, and sat down next to Wen Ling. Just as he was about to put his hand on the back of the sofa behind her, Wen Ling moved to the side.
No wonder I was acting strange today; I was sulking.
Shang Chen actually quite liked Wen Ling's quirky personality; it made him feel that he was being cared for.
But not wanting Wen Ling to keep her anger bottled up, he moved closer to her. Wen Ling paused for a moment, then moved closer again. Shang Chen played with her tirelessly.
When there was nowhere left to retreat, Wen Ling nudged him, saying, "Move over a little, you're crowding me."
There were only the two of them in the living room. Everyone else was either in their rooms or in the backyard, or busy in the kitchen. No one noticed them, which emboldened Shang Chen.
He moved closer, until he had her completely trapped in his arms, before kissing her cheek: "Are you angry?"
Wen Ling's face was burning. She turned her head away, afraid that her family might come in and see, and kept pushing him away with both hands to maintain a proper distance: "I don't want to talk to you right now. Get up."
"Then I'll be very sad, baby."
Wen Ling couldn't resist his flirting at all; her heart was racing. While she was still in a daze, Shang Chen moved even closer, until their breaths mingled and their faces were touching.
"Baby, please talk to me."
As he spoke, Shang Chen lightly touched her lips with his own, then stared intently into Wen Ling's evasive gaze with his deep eyes. Even without a mirror, she could probably imagine that her face was as red as a monkey's bottom.
Just then, voices came from the back door.
Grandpa and Grandma returned with a full load of blueberries. Grandpa's booming voice echoed in the living room: "Lingling, Grandpa picked some fresh blueberries for you. Come and have a taste."
The old man's footsteps drew closer.
Wen Ling and Shang Chen exchanged a glance, and the former frantically tried to get up: "You... get up."
The latter leisurely grabbed her waist, preventing her from moving: "Are you still angry?"
Wen Ling didn't speak, so Shang Chen didn't let go, staring at her with a smile in his eyes, which was extremely annoying.
Wen Ling glared at him, suddenly feeling wronged for no apparent reason. Her nose stung, and her eyes welled up with tears. Seeing her eyes becoming wet, Shang Chen panicked. He hurriedly sat up straight, saying, "Baby, I'm sorry, I..."
Wen Ling's plan succeeded, and she easily pushed him away.
Then, like a graceful little butterfly, she quickly walked to Grandpa Wen's side: "Thank you, Grandpa."
Grandma smiled and invited Shang Chen to come and eat as well.
Just as Shang Chen was about to stand up and go over, Wen Ling was picking out large blueberries from the basket, saying without looking up, "He doesn't like them, Grandma, don't call him, we'll eat them ourselves."
Shang Chen: "..."
