Chapter 37, Chapter 37: Brother Chen~
Late at night, the Wen family was all asleep.
Around 12 o'clock, Wen Ling carefully opened the door and, using the light from her phone, tiptoed down the stairs to the kitchen on the first floor.
I dare not turn on the lights, for fear of being discovered.
With her whole body tense and biting her lip, she pried open the refrigerator door.
A blast of cold air hit her face, and she saw the blueberry cake placed right in the center, untouched.
After dinner, Shang Chen kept pestering her to eat.
Wen Ling deliberately ignored him, shutting him out, and absentmindedly waited until now.
I wasn't really craving cake, I just suddenly wanted something sweet.
The cake was taken out and placed on the island counter behind me.
She had just closed the refrigerator door when someone grabbed her hands and pinned her to the island counter. Startled, she made out the person's features through the cold night and felt a guilty pang of being caught red-handed: "You... why aren't you asleep yet?"
They faced each other. Wen Ling's hands were grabbed by a large hand and placed behind her back. Before she could react, Shang Chen suddenly lifted her by the waist and carried her to the island platform.
Wen Ling's feet were dangling in the air, and she felt a little insecure: "What are you doing?"
"I'm thirsty, so I came down for a drink." Shang Chen raised an eyebrow. "And I just happened to run into a little glutton."
Wen Ling's cheeks flushed, and she pulled her hands away, saying, "Let go, you're hurting me."
Shang Chen loosened his grip, but then used his right leg to spread the gap between her legs and squeezed inside, trapping her in a very intimate position.
"Are you angry because I didn't take you with me when we went out these past few days?"
Is that the reason?
Wen Ling snorted softly. The anger she had been holding in had already dissipated when she saw him get the short end of the stick. Now, she didn't run away anymore and poked his chest with her index finger: "You know what's going on."
Under the hazy moonlight, it was really hard to see the facial features clearly.
Shang Chen noticed that Wen Ling's eyes were shining brightly at that moment. He chuckled a few times, took the small hand that was still poking his chest into his palm, and said truthfully, "I'm preparing a surprise for you."
Even though I had already guessed that this was a possibility.
But Wen Ling was still not satisfied with this answer: "Don't you want me to be happy every day?"
Shang Chen looked at her and nodded, seemingly puzzled.
Under the cover of night, Wen Ling spoke sweet nothings without feeling shy. She murmured softly, "But I can't see you every day, how can I be happy?"
Shang Chen's heart skipped a beat.
His palms were a little numb, and a surge of emotions was about to burst out of his heart. He stared at Wen Ling for a long time, his Adam's apple bobbing. He could no longer restrain himself and leaned in to find her lips and kiss her.
Wen Ling's hands, which were supporting her on the island platform, involuntarily wrapped around his neck, actively responding. The quiet space was filled with the embarrassing sounds of wetness.
It wasn't until her slippers accidentally slipped off and fell to the ground with a sharp 'thud' that both of them snapped out of their daze. Wen Ling was about to back away, but Shang Chen pressed on her waist, determined to continue.
She turned her head away and kissed him on the cheek.
Wen Ling calmed her breathing slightly: "I haven't finished speaking yet."
Shang Chen gently rested his head on her shoulder, a certain part of his body throbbing with pain: "Baby, tell me."
"Shang Chen, I don't want you to put the cart before the horse, ignoring my feelings in order to prepare a surprise for me." Wen Ling felt the weight on her body, her hands, which had nowhere to go, were placed in his palm and their fingers were intertwined and kneaded. "Rather than you preparing a surprise to make me happy, I would rather... spend every day with you."
Shang Chen raised his head, a faint smile on his lips, and laughed out loud: "Wen Ling."
"...Hmm?" Since they got together, he rarely called her by her full name anymore, and Wen Ling inexplicably felt that her current situation was a bit 'dangerous'.
“I can understand that you now…” He paused slightly, leaned closer on the island platform, stared at her red lips that were glistening from being kissed, and slowly said, “cannot leave me for even a moment?”
Wen Ling pursed her lips and asked him in return, "Then will you leave me?"
Shang Chen: "..."
Having failed to seduce someone, Shang Chen felt his blood surging and he wanted to vent, to vent it all out. Clearly, the timing and place were both wrong.
He suppressed the excitement in his throat and answered very seriously, "No, nothing will ever separate us again."
Wen Ling finally smiled happily and nodded heavily. Then, she glanced at the food next to her and said, "Shang Chen, I want to eat cake."
"Okay." Shang Chen coughed, picked her up, and deliberately kept a distance, afraid that she would notice and feel uncomfortable. He didn't dare to get any closer and took the initiative to open the cake box. He calmed his breathing for a while before he calmed down. "Don't eat too much, or you'll feel uncomfortable later."
"I know," Wen Ling muttered. "We could have eaten it after dinner."
Shang Chen smiled but didn't say anything. He turned on a warm yellow light and cut the cake. Wen Ling leaned over eagerly and asked him curiously, "What surprise did you prepare?"
Shang Chen raised an eyebrow: "It's a secret."
Wen Ling persisted: "But it's not my birthday recently, why are you suddenly preparing a surprise for me?"
They even called over several of her brothers to help.
Shang Chen turned to look at her: "Want to know?"
Wen Ling nodded obediently with a serious expression.
Having appeased the person, Shang Chen became a little smug, leaning lazily against the island counter: "Give me a kiss, and I'll give you a little hint."
Wen Ling believed it without hesitation.
She tiptoed and kissed his lips. Shang Chen smiled and ruffled her hair: "Lingling, if I told you, there would be no surprise."
"..." Wen Ling angrily slapped him, "Shang Chen, you're so annoying."
He's always like that; he loves teasing her.
Wen Ling turned away, not wanting to talk to him. Shang Chen cut a small piece of cake, forked a piece and fed it to her, smiling, "You'll know in a few days."
Wen Ling gave a soft snort and turned her head away.
The small cake in Shang Chen's hand followed her, the delicate aroma of blueberries wafting into her nose, making her mouth water.
"Lingling, are you really not going to eat?"
In just a few dozen seconds, Wen Ling couldn't resist and took a bite of the cake. It was icy cold and refreshing to eat in the sweltering summer heat.
Wen Ling chewed a few times and swallowed, then opened her mouth towards Shang Chen.
Shang Chen looked at her with feigned incomprehension. Wen Ling pointed to the cake in his hand, then to her own mouth, and then blinked. The whole process was obedient and cute.
As she wished, Shang Chen forked another piece, looking quite puzzled: "Is it really that delicious?"
Wen Ling had just taken a bite and nodded, but before she could swallow, Shang Chen had already grabbed her chin and kissed her, his mouth full of blueberry flavor. She made a couple of muffled noises, but her resistance was futile.
Shang Chen, having succeeded, stepped back, swallowed the food, and nodded in agreement: "Yes, it is indeed delicious."
Wen Ling: "..."
…
Even though I was mentally prepared.
But before the surprise actually arrives, Wen Ling is still so excited that she doesn't know how to react.
That day, Shang Chen was unusually free, and before he could even ask her to go out, Chen Yao dragged him out shopping, buying clothes, and getting his hair styled. They were full of energy.
Wen Ling wasn't particularly enthusiastic about these kinds of activities; she mostly just wanted to spend time with her friends.
But today, her two sisters-in-law insisted on trying on clothes for her, wanting to give her a completely new look.
Pressed in front of the makeup mirror, Wen Ling blinked, her heart suddenly racing. She felt that this was supposed to be a surprise for Shang Chen, but she couldn't understand what it was that required such a grand gesture.
She wore very light makeup, had her hair permed with temporary curls, styled it in a princess half-updo, and tied it with a rather large pink bow hair clip.
She was also wearing a light pink puff-sleeved dress in the same color family as the bow.
As she left the store, her already fair and radiant skin attracted attention, and with her new hairstyle, she turned heads even more. Some people even dared to approach her for her WeChat, but before Wen Ling could say anything, Chen Yao chased her away.
Before we knew it, night had fallen.
Wen Ling was taken to the downstairs of a hotel. When it was about to happen, she was so nervous that she couldn't speak. Her heart was in her throat, and she looked helplessly at Chen Yao.
Chen Yao smiled and reassured her, "Don't be nervous, Grandpa and Grandma are here, we're with you."
Chen Yao held her hand, and Wen Ling gripped it tightly, unwilling to let go. Suddenly, her third sister-in-law took out a bright red ribbon and said with a smile, "This was specially instructed by Shang Chen. He wants to be the first person you see when you open your eyes."
Wen Ling blushed slightly.
She lowered her head consciously, letting her third sister-in-law tie it for her. Her vision blurred, and she felt slightly uneasy. She subconsciously called out, "Sister-in-law..."
Chen Yao held on with both hands: "They're all here, don't be afraid."
Her two sisters-in-law stood on either side of her, giving her a strong sense of security.
Then, Wen Ling was led along very slowly. She realized that she was being taken to an elevator. As the elevator went up to the next floor, she became more and more nervous. After stepping out of the elevator, every step felt like walking on clouds, floating and unreal.
The city's hustle and bustle filled my ears, along with the faint sound of the wind.
After being led along flat ground for a while, Chen Yao and the others suddenly let go of her hand. Wen Ling's throat tightened, and she instinctively reached out and grabbed at the air. Suddenly, a large hand firmly grasped her.
A warm, familiar touch.
Strangely enough, Wen Ling's heart immediately calmed down, even though he didn't say a word.
Shang Chen dressed up specially today, with hair gel in his hair, a white shirt, and black trousers. He was usually composed, but now he looked even more mature and reassuring.
"Watch out, there are steps ahead."
Wen Ling paused, and even though she couldn't see him, she still turned her head and craned her neck to look in his direction: "...Shang Chen."
“Baby, I’m here.” He put his arm around her waist and watched her carefully. “Lift up a little higher, there are two more steps. Take it slow, no rush.”
Although he hid it well, Wen Ling could still hear the nervousness in his voice. This actually eased her tense emotions. She scratched his palm with her thumb and said in a voice that only the two of them could hear, "Brother Chen~, you get nervous too."
Wen Ling rarely flirted with him; she usually just passively accepted it. She was even too embarrassed to call him "baby" normally, and no matter what her mood was, she always called him Shang Chen.
Hearing a deliberately murmured address, Shang Chen's heart clenched, and his temples throbbed with heat. He looked at her helplessly and smiled, "Wen Ling, you're deliberately messing with me."
Wen Ling tilted her head innocently: "No."
Her lips were painted a glossy pink today. Shang Chen stared at them for a long time, his lips moved, and he suddenly leaned forward, about to kiss her, when several loud coughs came from the side.
It was Yan Qingli and her new follower Liu Chang.
