Chapter 142 Triggers a New Mission

"It's not that I don't want you to come in, but this infected player can't come in. He already has a tendency to attack people. What if we let him into the camp and he attacks other players, causing them to get infected as well?"

As the guard spoke, he kept a wary eye on the wounded man, his hand gripping his weapon tightly, his clothes smeared with charred, sticky substance.

The team member looked troubled and reluctant. "But he's our captain. He was bitten by the charred corpse while protecting us. How can we leave him outside!"

Yun Jianxian listened to the whole story before walking out.

Upon seeing her, the team members greeted her with great joy, "Leader! Please save Team Leader Hui! If it weren't for him, we would have been among the charred corpses long ago!"

Yun Jian nodded and looked at the guard: "Let him in!"

The guard wanted to say something, but seeing Yun Jian's expression, he obediently opened the door.

The team members immediately thanked Yun Jian and helped the injured man back to their lodgings.

"Wait!" Yun Jian called out to them.

The group turned around, looking uneasy: "Does the Alliance Leader have any further instructions?"

Yun Jian pointed at the wounded man and said, "He's about to undergo a transformation. You few can't handle him."

Upon hearing this, the group turned pale and immediately pleaded with Yun Jian for mercy.

The fourth brother sighed, "You've come back too late."

"What should we do? Alliance Leader, please think of a solution..."

Yun turned his head away, not wanting to see the pleading looks on these people, and simply said to the fourth brother, "Take him to our meeting room."

The fourth brother nodded, and he and Bai Yu each took one side of the man, both supporting and restraining him, and led him to the conference room.

Yun Jian went back to her room first.

When she arrived, the wounded man was already firmly tied to a pillar, with thin black threads occasionally peeking out of his body before retreating back in.

The fourth brother and Bai Yu stood guard nearby, holding the energy storage ball.

"Boss, he's clearly beyond saving. Dragging him out will only cause him more suffering. Why did you bring him here?"

Bai Yu also said, "Electric shocks can no longer control the growth rate of these black filaments. At this level, they should be exterminated on a humanitarian basis."

Yun Jian didn't panic. She opened her palm to the two of them, revealing a fist-sized, grayish-green fleshy ball curled up inside.

The fourth brother was taken aback. "What is this?"

Bai Yu squinted and examined them closely. "They look familiar...they're those little bugs!"

The fourth child's eyes widened. "How did you grow so big?"

As he spoke, he took two steps back. "It was cuter when it was little. Now that it's so big, the thought of it being a super-sized plus version of a caterpillar gives me the creeps."

"Nonsense, it's so cute, and you can even handle it now."

"UA, it's just like the cats and dogs you keep, what's so scary about it?" Bai Yu lied through his teeth with a straight face.

Fourth Brother: "..."

This person was clearly terrified at the beginning, okay?

Yun Jian reached out and poked the little bug. "Get up, time to work!"

The little insect raised half of its body in a daze, shook its head from side to side, looked at Yun Jian, and then at the half-charred and corpse-like wounded man. It understood, and with a "whoosh," it flew out and disappeared into the wounded man's body.

Bai Yu seemed to sense something and hissed.

"This thing is so big, it must hurt so much to crawl inside!"

Yun Jian flipped his hand and took out another small worm. "If you want to know, I can let you try it."

Bai Yu quickly shook his head.

Without delay, Yun put the remaining four small insects into the wounded soldier's body.

Bai Yu rested his chin on his hand, leaning on the table, a little worried: "His body is so badly charred, can he be saved?"

Yun Jian wasn't sure either, but simply said, "Let's give it a try."

These guys woke up shouting that they were starving, and since there was an injured person there, we gave them a chance to practice their eating.

Yun Jian opened the system panel and flipped to the equipment page. Bai Yu hadn't noticed it at first, until he heard Lao Si exclaim, "Level 2! Little Bug leveled up?"

He immediately turned his head and, sure enough, saw a small "2" marked above the square that belonged to the little bug.

He leaned closer curiously, "What new attributes do you get when you level up to level 2?"

Yun Jian clicked on the details page of the little insect.

Bai Yu read aloud the instructions: "After a hearty meal, the little insect may produce some unexpected treasures in order to repay its master!"

After saying that, his gaze toward the little insect became even more ardent.

All that's left to do is wait.

The fourth brother was bored, so he opened the world channel.

The players were in complete chaos.

"I knew this day would come. Those charred corpses are getting smarter and smarter. One day they'll become like humans. Today they can dig my tunnels, tomorrow they can take over this game!"

"I've been scrolling through the public chat and I'm completely dumbfounded. When did the charred zombie learn to dig tunnels? Is there any way to hide?"

"Yes, as long as you don't let them discover your tunnel, but these charred corpses are incredibly good at finding people. Unless you don't return to your tunnel, they naturally can't find it by following your route."

"I can't possibly not rest, can I? Without the tunnel, where am I supposed to rest? Who can keep running 24/7?"

"Right now, all I want is to find something to kill the charred corpse as soon as possible. Otherwise, if this drags on, humanity will be wiped out sooner or later."

"Tengyun Pavilion, don't you guys like tinkering with those weird and wonderful potions? I don't care if they have any other effects, as long as they can kill charred corpses. Hurry up and get on with your research!"

"If this keeps up, I'm going crazy! I really don't want to stay in this lousy game anymore."

"Besides tunnels, are there any other ways to find a safe shelter? Does anyone know? Please enlighten me!"

Looking at the miserable state of affairs on the public screen, the fourth brother couldn't help but sigh, "Life is getting harder and harder. When will this ever end!"

Yun Jian looked at the gloomy sky outside and said, "I have a feeling it's coming soon."

Taking advantage of this free time, she added all the attribute points she had previously acquired to defense. So far, her defense has reached 18 points. Yun Jian is looking forward to the day when her defense reaches 100, hoping that she will be invulnerable to swords and spears.

The occasional roar of a charred corpse could be heard outside as Yun Jian idly strolled through the mall.

Suddenly a message popped up at the top of the page—

You have triggered a new quest. Please check the quest panel.

Yun Jian was stunned. She hadn't done anything, so how did the mission trigger?

She quickly opened the task panel.

[New Mission (Nightmare Mode): Recruit twenty charred corpses to your side! (Mission duration: 20 days)]

Upon seeing this message, Yun Jian felt a wave of dizziness.

Even though the game developers have all quit, how come her "unlucky streak" skill is still working?

Is this task really not making things difficult for her?
