Chapter 66 Encountering a Pack of Wolves

Li Tao was short of money after all. In the past, forty points wouldn't have been a big deal for him; he could have just paid it off with a wave of his hand. But now, he was a little reluctant to spend it.

"Forty points? Do you think you've lived too long?"

Upon hearing this, Xiang Lei didn't say much. He simply listed the "Finding People Compass" on the trading platform, set it to automatic sale, and then went offline.

Forty points is his bottom line.

Li Tao waited for a while, but Xiang Lei didn't back down. In the end, he could only send a message to his underling in frustration.

"Help me take a picture of that missing person compass, quick!"

As soon as he heard him speak, the younger brother quickly and efficiently went to do it.

Not long after, Li Tao obtained the search compass. After familiarizing himself with how to use it, he urged Yun Jian to hurry up and go with him to find the person.

Yun Jian, however, remained lazy and did not move.

Li Tao snapped again, "What do you mean? You don't want to work?"

Yun Jian grinned and showed off his system panel, then said apologetically to Li Tao, "Sorry, my special attribute is being unlucky, so asking someone won't help."

Li Tao's pupils contracted.

Thinking back to how Yun Jian had asked him to buy a compass, he thought, "Did you trick me?"

Yun Jian smiled, unconcerned. "Is there any trust between us? Who knew you'd be so naive as to believe it?"

Li Tao felt a lump in his throat and almost couldn't breathe.

His eyes seemed to be burning with fury as he looked at Yun Jian. "Fine, very well! Yun Jian, our feud is now officially established."

Seeing that she was innocent, Yun asked in return, "Didn't we already have a feud?"

Li Tao was speechless again, his fists clenching and unclenching several times, his eyes so fierce he wanted to tear Yun Jian to shreds.

“I don’t mind if you lay a hand on me now.”

Li Tao sneered, his last shred of reason preventing him from making a move.

The two sat there staring at each other, and soon it was evening. Li Tao was filled with hatred, but he couldn't do anything himself. Looking at the moon in the sky, he suddenly got up and walked to Yun Jian's side.

"Come with me."

Yun Jian looked up at him, wondering what kind of trouble he was up to.

Li Tao curled his lips into a mocking smile. "Didn't you trick me? Why are you scared now? The trial card is still valid. Do you dare not come with me?"

Yun had no choice but to get up.

Li Tao's demeanor was relaxed, as if he simply wanted to take Yun Jian for a walk late at night.

Yun Jian was puzzled by this attitude, but she was certain that Li Tao had no good plans in mind.

What exactly is Li Tao trying to do? He can't possibly lay a hand on Yun Jian.

To be honest, this scene looks like a young couple in love; I must be crazy.

[What kind of cult-like couple is this upstairs? They're shipping each other? They're mortal enemies!]

[I'm the first to disagree with shipping them. Yun Jian's long bangs may make her look a bit sinister, but she's actually a beautiful young woman in the prime of her life, okay? And Li Tao, he's treacherous and cunning, with a face full of fat—how is he a good match for her?]

[Have you guys really gone this far in your art style? Didn't you see the undercurrents and the tension between these two?]

In the game, Li Tao had brought Yun Jian to the edge of a cliff. Yun Jian kept at least three meters away from Li Tao. She looked at the cliff behind Li Tao and said with a smile, "At this height, if you fall, you'll be crippled even if you don't die."

Li Tao replied to her, "It should be."

"You brought me here so you could just push me off the cliff?"

Li Tao laughed, "Do you think I'm that stupid?"

"Then they didn't come here to admire the moon."

Li Tao glanced behind Yun Jian and said, "Indeed, I didn't come to admire the moon; I came to send you on your way."

Upon hearing this, Yun Jian felt a chill run down her spine. It was as if she was being stared at by many eyes at the same time. While keeping an eye on Li Tao, Yun Jian turned around and gasped.

Wolf!

Lots of wolves!

This is a wolf's den!

Yun Jian's eyes narrowed; she knew then that Li Tao wanted to kill her, but...

"You lured me here, how are you going to get out of here? Do you want to die with me?"

As soon as she finished speaking, she saw Li Tao putting on layers of defensive gear on himself. When he heard her speak, Li Tao even took the time to give her a mocking look.

"Yun Jian, let's end our feud tonight! I wish you a gruesome death."

After saying that, Li Tao jumped off the cliff.

Yun Jian: "..."

That's really ruthless.

[Ah—I was so scared I covered my eyes. Li Tao jumped so suddenly, my heart almost stopped.]

[I was just discussing with Yun Jian whether jumping would cripple him, and then he jumped himself in the blink of an eye. He's so decisive!]

[Don't call him heartless. He has so many defensive items on him; they can't hurt him. You should be more concerned about how Yun Jian will escape!]

[That's right, Yun Jian doesn't have any defensive items, and there are so many wolves behind him, it'll be difficult for him to break through.]

[She brought this on herself, insisting on holding that attribute auction. Bai Yu tried to stop her, but she persisted. She deserved to get herself killed.]

In the game, Yun Jian also became serious; this turn of events was something she hadn't anticipated.

Although her current predicament was caused by Li Tao, he did not directly harm her, so the system could not punish him, which was a miscalculation!

A wolf emerged from the pack, sniffed at Yun Jian's location, then turned back and howled at the pack, seemingly communicating with them.

And then...

The wolf pack rioted.

Yun Jian had no idea what was happening when the wolves' eyes turned exceptionally fierce as they looked at her.

They stopped confronting her and, except for the lead wolf, all the wolves growled and pounced on her one after another. Yun managed to dodge one after another, but they seemed tireless. After missing their target, they would immediately turn around and pounce on her again.

On the cliff, the sounds of wolves pouncing and biting could be heard incessantly.

Li Tao, standing on the cliff, glanced at the view from afar and felt extremely smug.

He didn't believe that Yun could survive facing a pack of wolves; he had experienced firsthand how ferocious those wolves were.

That time, in order to escape, he sacrificed several of his men and suffered a minor injury to his thigh. These wolves were not wolves at all, but executioners of the jungle.

An hour later, the wolf pack's riot finally subsided.

Li Tao left satisfied.

On the cliff, Yunjian tied a knot in his torn clothes, looked at the furious wolf pack not far away, and breathed a sigh of relief. He had finally shaken them off!

At the same time, she heard the system announcement—

Congratulations to player Yunjian for completing the first quest of "An Inextricable Bond with the Wolf Clan" (the first formal meeting with the wolf clan). Please continue to explore the subsequent quests!

(Note: Completing the first task will attract the attention of the wolves; please take precautions.)

Yun Jian stared blankly at the words "avoid danger" for a moment.

Damn it, another lousy task!

After resting briefly and regaining her strength, she headed towards the camp.
