Chapter 116 Drunk Father Liu

When Xuemei and Ruirui returned home, Ruirui was helping Liu's father into the brothers' room.

Feifei asked in confusion, "Mom, why did you put Dad in our room?"

Mother Liu explained, "You and Ruirui helped your father wash up, but he still smells of alcohol, and it makes me uncomfortable. Let your father sleep in your bed tonight, and you and Ruirui can squeeze in!"

Feifei said dissatisfiedly: "Mom, I think it's too crowded for Ruirui and I to sleep together now?"

Mother Liu looked at Ruirui, who was almost as tall as Liufu, and then at Feifei, who was a few centimeters shorter. She said against her will, "Although you've grown a lot taller now, you're too thin. Feifei's upper bunk is 1.2 meters wide, how can you not squeeze in? You two used to be fine squeezed in my belly!"

Before Feifei could retort, Ruirui shouted from inside, "Mom, Daddy vomited!"

When Xuemei and the others went in, they saw that Feifei's sheets and quilt covers were all stained with vomit, and there was also vomit on the floor from Liu's father.

Xuemei quickly went to the kitchen, got a wooden basin, and handed it to Liu's mother, asking her to catch it when Liu's father was about to vomit. She also used a small iron shovel to scoop some ash onto the wooden board that Liu's father had vomited on.

Feifei went to the yard and got a broom and a wooden dustpan for garbage. After cleaning the wooden floor, Feifei looked at Liu's mother with a sullen face.

Mother Liu touched her ear awkwardly and said, "You go to sleep in my and your father's room, and I'll sleep on Qingya's bed in our room!"

Feifei pointed to the soiled sheets and quilt on her bed and said, "Mom, what should we do with these?"

"What can we do? It was your father who did it, so of course he has to deal with it himself. I'll ask him to wash your sheets and quilt covers tomorrow!" Liu's mother said mercilessly.

After Liu's mother entered the room, Xuemei handed the small wooden box that Han Chen had just given her to Liu's mother.

Liu's mother took it and asked, "What is this? Who gave it to you?"

"Mom, this is what Han Chen just gave me. It's his family fortune! He said he would leave it to me to take care of. Mom, do you think I should take it?" Xuemei replied.

"This guy is quite sensible. Since he gave it to you, you should take it well and treat it as something he keeps for safekeeping! But you'd better not use his money before you get married." When Liu's mother heard that it was Han Chen's thing, she didn't open it to look at it. After she finished speaking, she handed it to Xuemei!

"Mom, I get it. I will take a piece of paper and write down how much money Han Chen took from me. I won't keep track of it when I marry him!" Xuemei said, then put Han Chen's small wooden box into her own space, took out her own wooden box for saving money and counted it, and found that there was a total of 315 yuan in it.

Mother Liu asked curiously, "How much money do you have saved now?"

Xuemei happily replied, "Mom, I have three hundred and fifteen now, and I still have over six dollars in my purse. Oh, and my second brother also lent me thirty dollars. He said he'd pay me back at least half by the end of this year!"

"If you buy fewer things for your family, you will save at least 20 or 30 yuan more!" said Liu's mother, tapping Xuemei's forehead.

Xuemei grabbed Liu's mother's arm and said coquettishly, "Mom, the food in your stomach is also ours, isn't it the same?"

Mother Liu smiled and said, "That's right, it satisfies both my mouth and my stomach! By the way, if your second brother can't pay you back fifteen yuan by the end of the year, don't worry about him. A newly married couple definitely doesn't have much savings!"

Xuemei nodded to show that she understood, and then took out two jewelry boxes, opened them and looked inside. One contained five gold leaves and a gold hairpin, and the other contained two jade Buddhas.

Xuemei had hidden these two jewelry boxes in the space when she was nearly discovered at the purchasing station. The good stuff was hidden inside the interlayer of the jewelry boxes. Later, when the situation improved, Xuemei took them out to show Liu's mother, and after studying them for a long time, she finally discovered the treasures.

After high school resumed classes, Xuemei went to the purchasing station several times, but found nothing except half a cookbook and some old newspapers.

"Mom, don't you really want some gold leaves?" Xuemei said, pointing to the jewelry box.

"No, you should keep the things you found yourself. Although the situation is slightly better now than in the past two years, you still have to be cautious and put these things away quickly. You should also be careful when using the space yourself and don't let others find out, okay?" Liu's mother reminded.

Xuemei quickly put all her things away and put them into her space. She replied, "Mom, I'll be careful! Mom, will you sleep in the same bed with me tonight? We haven't slept together in a long time!"

Mother Liu yawned and said, "Okay, let's go to bed. It's almost twelve o'clock. I'll go turn off the lights!"

Just as Xuemei fell asleep, she heard the voice of Liu's father singing a military song, and then Liu's mother got up and went out.

"Mom, Dad isn't awake yet!" Xuemei asked in a daze with her eyes closed when she heard the sound of the door opening.

"He really drank too much today. He was very energetic and kept singing military songs! I let Ruirui go to sleep with Feifei. Don't worry about your father. Let him sing as much as he wants! Let's go back to sleep!" Liu's mother replied unhappily.

The next day, when Xuemei was on her way home from get off work, she saw Han Chen waiting for her on the roadside when she was about two or three miles away.

"Han Chen, are you getting off work so early today?" Xuemei got off her bicycle and asked the man walking towards her.

"The village isn't very busy recently, so we get off work around five o'clock." Han Chen naturally took Xuemei's schoolbag and continued pushing the bicycle.

"Then don't you take turns cooking for the educated youth? It wasn't your turn last night, and it's not your turn tonight either?" Xuemei continued to ask.

"I have switched with other educated youth. From now on, I will only be responsible for breakfast and lunch! Otherwise, I won't have time to see you every day!" Han Chen said gently looking at Xuemei.
