The next morning, when Xuemei woke up, she found herself in Han Chen's arms. Xuemei thought that it was quite warm to sleep with someone, especially in winter. With such a hot-tempered person holding her while she slept, she would no longer have to worry about being woken up by the cold in the middle of the night.
Just when Xuemei was in a daze, Han Chen also woke up. Han Chen pulled Xuemei closer to him and hugged her tightly with both hands.
Xuemei looked at the pair of eyes she was familiar with, sparkling in the morning light. Xuemei then realized that it was getting late. The sun had come out today, and she didn't know what time it was.
Xuemei patted her big hands on her waist and asked, "Look at the time!"
Han Chen reached out and took his watch from beside his pillow. He looked at it and said, "It's past nine o'clock. Mom told me last night that it's okay for us to get up a little later this morning! If you still want to sleep in, sleep a little longer. I'll stay with you!"
Xuemei was about to push Han Chen away to get up when she felt something poking at the base of her thigh. After last night, Xuemei was no longer a complete novice. She kicked Han Chen's leg with her toe and said, "Stay away from me. I'm still feeling a little unwell. Besides, I need to get up too. It's getting late!"
After the villagers stopped working, most of them returned to eating two meals a day. Although the Liu family still ate three meals a day, they usually steamed some sweet potatoes and potatoes in the morning to fill their stomachs, but they usually didn't steam too much.
Han Chen kissed Xuemei's forehead, hugged her and said, "I won't move you, so don't move for now, let me take a break!"
After getting up, they took their toiletries and went to the yard. Father Liu was weaving a basket while listening to the radio, while Mother Liu was knitting a sweater in the sun.
Liu's mother was currently knitting her own vest, with only the tail left. Seeing Xuemei and the other two approaching, she said without even looking up, "You've woken up. There's some warm rice porridge in the small iron pot, and hot water in the big iron pot. Go quickly!"
"Okay, Mom! We know, thank you!" Xuemei knew that this was a special way to take care of her and Han Chen, and she made porridge in the morning. Han Chen then thanked Liu's mother.
After they washed up and finished eating, Han Chen had just rinsed the dishes when Ruirui and Feifei came to the kitchen with basketballs. They said that since the weather was nice today, they wanted Han Chen to go out and play basketball with them, and Qingya would join them later.
"You two go play for a while. I need to wash the sheets I slept on before, and then I'll come back to play with you!" Han Chen said.
Ruirui and Feifei nodded when they heard this, then took their basketballs and went back to their rooms to do their winter vacation homework.
As soon as Xuemei and Han Chen returned to their room, Han Chen asked, "Xuemei, do you have any clothes to wash? I'll wash them together later!"
"No, I scrubbed the clothes I changed into after taking a shower yesterday. They are now in the wooden barrel in the main room. I'll go to the well to fetch water to rinse them and then hang them up!" Xuemei replied.
"Don't go, I'll wash it together with the quilt later! You rest in the room for a while!" Han Chen said.
Xuemei nodded while sitting on the chair and waved to Han Chen. Han Chen came over, bent down and asked, "What else?"
"Put your face here!" Xuemei said.
Han Chen lowered his head, and Xuemei kissed her right cheek. Han Chen pointed to his left cheek, and Xuemei smiled and kissed Han Chen's left cheek again.
Han Chen looked at Xuemei and laughed, pointing to his mouth. Xuemei shook her head and gently pushed Han Chen's face away with her hand. She said proudly, "If you want me to kiss you there, wait until you finish your task!"
"Okay, then don't forget my reward! I'll go to work first!" Han Chen said as he stood up.
"I won't forget. Remember to go to the kitchen and get some hot water for washing clothes. The water is still a little cold today!" Xuemei reminded.
Han Chen nodded and left. Xuemei felt that even his back revealed his happiness!
Xuemei looked at the time. It was already past ten o'clock. She couldn't sleep now. The sun was shining outside, so she took a ball of yarn and knitting needles and went out. She moved a small stool and sat down next to her.
Xuemei was knitting a scarf, having asked Liu's mother to teach her how to knit. It was for her grandparents, and she planned to send it along with her eldest uncle's family and her grandparents at the end of the year, as a New Year's gift from her and Han Chen.
Xuemei had already finished one piece and was just beginning the rest. Both of her scarves were 30 centimeters wide and one meter long, so the two combined weighed about half a pound of yarn.
