Chapter 65 Textile Factory Recruitment

"Sister, Dad asked you to cook more and fry some delicious dishes. Dad and Mom left work early and borrowed a bicycle to go to grandma's house at six o'clock." Feifei said while panting, and it was obvious that she had just run back.

"Oh, then what are Dad and Mom doing at grandma's house? Feifei, do you know?" Xuemei asked.

"My eldest brother called me this afternoon. He said he saw this morning that the county textile factory was looking for two apprentices who were skilled in embroidery and clothing making, and who had to have a junior high school education. He remembered that my cousin met the requirements, and that she would be taking the exam tomorrow afternoon after registering. So, my parents went to pick up my cousin and grandpa to stay with us today. It would be more convenient for them to take the bus from our place to the commune tomorrow morning."

Xuemei looked into the yard again and asked, "Where are your second sister and third brother?"

"My eldest sister and third brother are doing the work that my father and mother haven't finished yet. There isn't much left, so they asked me to come back and help you cook."

"Okay, take a break and help me knead some cornmeal to make corn cakes. I've been cooking corn stubble porridge for a while, so it's hard to add it now. Let's just steam some corn cakes! Do you think stir-fried rabbit meat and a tomato and egg soup should be enough?"

"Big sister, please make some cucumber salad! It's so hot today, it would be very refreshing to eat that."

"Okay, go pick two cucumbers."

After Qingya and Ruirui returned, they waited for over half an hour until it was almost eight o'clock before Grandpa and cousin Xinyan arrived. Grandma and Grandpa had returned with the twins a few days before the autumn harvest. They planned to stay home until after the Lunar New Year before going to live with their eldest uncle. The twins would start school next year, so they wouldn't be able to stay home for as long.

"Grandpa, cousin, please come in and sit down first. Feifei, go make two cups of sugar water." Xuemei said.

"Grandpa, why didn't my parents come back with you?" Xuemei asked after grandpa and cousin sat down.

"Your parents have gone to return the bicycle and will be back soon." Grandpa replied.

"Okay, Grandpa, you and cousin are hungry, right? Why don't we go eat first?"

"Wait until your parents come back and have dinner together! Before you go to bed tonight, remember to tell your cousin about your experience on the last job exam. Has your cousin been nervous since she heard the news?"

Xuemei looked up at her gentle and quiet cousin. Apart from her constantly stirring hands, there was no sign of nervousness on her face, and her expression remained calm.

My cousin Xinyan and my cousin Sitong look very similar. They both have gentle and generous looks, which makes people feel comfortable looking at them. However, my cousin is a few centimeters shorter than Sitong. She is about 1.6 meters tall, and Sitong is about the same height as Xuemei now.

Xuemei walked over to her cousin and sat down next to her. "Cousin, why are you so nervous? You've inherited the true teachings of grandma. I know you're really good at making clothes and embroidering."

"Xuemei, there are always people better than you. I'm just average at making clothes and embroidering, but it's been a few years since I finished junior high school, and I've forgotten a lot of knowledge. This is what I'm most worried about." Xinyan said worriedly.

"Cousin, the most important thing about your position is your skills. I've written down all the key points of my junior high school knowledge in a notebook. I'll give it to you later. You can just look at it tonight and tomorrow morning."

"Okay, Xuemei, thank you."

"It's okay, cousin. Talk to me tonight and I'll tell you about my experience in the last job exam."

The Liu family's bunk bed was modified based on the original 1.5-meter-wide bed, so it is definitely possible for two people to sleep on the lower bed.

"Dad, Mom, I'm going to my aunt's house. Today I went to the post office to pick up my uncle's package. The people at the post office said that the package for the educated youth in the village has arrived. I'll go and tell them." Xuemei put down the bowl and said to Liu's father and mother.

"Okay, go ahead! I'll clean up the dishes today," said Father Liu, waving his hand.

Boom boom boom…

"Sister, why are you here?" Yanan asked.

"I came to find He Zhiqing to tell them something."

"Okay, big sister, they are in the room, why don't you go and call them yourself?"

"Wanting, Xiaojing, I have something to talk to you about?" Xuemei said as she walked into the house where the female educated youth lived.

"What's the matter? Why don't we go out and talk about it?" He Wenting said to Wu Lian who was sitting on her bed with her head stretched out to eavesdrop.

"It's okay, nothing serious. I just went to the post office today to pick up a package and told him, 'He Zhiqing, there are packages coming from your families. I heard they're a bit large, so you'd better carry a backpack to pick them up. Remember to tell the three male educated youths when you go to work tomorrow.'"

"Okay, thank you Xuemei. We'll go get it after the autumn harvest in a few days." He Wanting said gratefully.

"It's okay, it's just a small matter. I'll be leaving now."

"Hey, wait a minute, Comrade Liu Xuemei, don't I have a package?" Wu Lian said and looked at Liu Xuemei expectantly.

Liu Xuemei had no choice but to say tactfully: "Go check it out during the autumn harvest. Maybe the postman let it slip."

Xuemei came out of the room of the three educated youth and saw Shengnan coming towards her.

"Sister, come to my room with me. I have something to ask you." Shengnan said directly.

"Shengnan, what's the matter? Tell me." Xuemei asked as she sat down.

Shengnan closed the door before answering, "Sister, a few days ago, Zhou Zhiqing took advantage of my mother being home alone and brought a bag of malted milk, a pound of White Rabbit candy, and a pound of biscuits. He told my mother he was thanking me, then left. I calculated, and it's worth seven or eight yuan. These things are too expensive, and it's not a good idea for me to accept them. Sister, do you think I should return them to him?"

"It's okay for you to keep it. After all, you saved his life, so it's reasonable for you to take these things."

"But I didn't think too much about it when I pulled him out. These past few days I've been trying to find him secretly and say I want to return the things to him, but he runs away as soon as he sees me."
