Today is Mid-Autumn Festival, and Xuemei only has to work half a day. Two days ago, Xuemei bought some mooncakes from the supply and marketing cooperative, which had just delivered some. The mooncakes were sold out yesterday afternoon.
Today's mooncakes are sold at three different prices: 0.66 yuan, 0.72 yuan, and 0.78 yuan, each pound costs six grain coupons. Anyway, they can all be divided by six.
Xuemei bought a jin (150g) of red bean paste and five-nut paste, both at 0.72 yuan per jin. She chose the ones that were 1 liang each, so two jins made 20 pieces. All in all, she spent 1 jin (150g) and 2 liang (150g) of food coupons and 1.45 yuan.
After get off work that day, Xuemei sent three mooncakes of two flavors to her fourth uncle, Wang Weidong, and his family of four who lived in the commune. No, it should be said that they were a family of five. Her fourth aunt was pregnant again, and she was already three months pregnant.
When leaving, Fourth Aunt stuffed a box of mung bean cakes and a bottle of canned oranges into Xuemei's backpack, saying that it was a Mid-Autumn Festival gift for Xuemei's family, so she didn't go to her house to deliver it. On the Mid-Autumn Festival, Fourth Uncle only had one afternoon off, and he had to go back to Wangjia Village to celebrate the festival with Second Uncle's family.
Yesterday, Liu's mother borrowed Han Chen's bicycle and went to Wangjia Village to deliver five mooncakes to her second uncle Wang Weimin's family. When she came back, she brought back two fish weighing more than one kilogram.
When Xuemei returned home, the whole family was at home. Mother Liu wrapped two mooncakes in oil paper and handed them to Qingya, saying, "Take them to your aunt!"
"Mom, then you have to wait for me to come back and eat mooncakes together!" Qingya instructed.
"I know. Feifei, the educated youth, called your brother Han, but he hasn't come back yet. They wanted them to come back to eat together. You were only a few meters away, but you came back in less than a minute!" Liu's mother waved her hand and said.
Mother Liu looked up at Xuemei, who was holding three oil-paper bags. "Why are you shopping again? We have food at home that your fourth uncle and his family brought us."
"Mom, this is what Han Chen asked me to bring him. There are three boxes of mung bean cakes. One box is for us, and the other two boxes are what Han Chen plans to give to grandpa, grandma and my second uncle's family during dinner tonight!" Xuemei took out a box and handed it to Liu's mother.
During the Mid-Autumn Festival, we usually go to the old house for dinner, and my second uncle's family is responsible for dinner. Therefore, they don't send gifts during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
"Why is Han Chen buying us things again? The radio he gave us before was already very expensive. This morning your father turned on the radio as soon as he got up, saying that there would definitely be holiday greetings from a great man today and he wanted to listen to the great man speak. He even took it to the village office to show off this morning. I think the battery won't last long!" Liu's mother took a box of mung bean cakes and complained.
Father Liu came out from behind Mother Liu, his hands behind his back. He cleared his throat and said defensively, "I took it to the brigade headquarters so that the rest of the village could hear the latest instructions together!"
Liu's mother and Xuemei looked at Liu's father in disbelief. Liu's father rubbed his nose embarrassedly and walked into the main room with his hands behind his back.
Mother Liu then continued, "Don't let Han Chen bring anything when you come to your house from now on. You should also persuade Han Chen. After you two get married, there will be a lot of money to spend. I said we will renovate the new house in a while. Did you hear me?"
Seeing Xuemei nodded perfunctorily, Liu's mother tapped her forehead angrily and said, "You have to listen to this and remember it in your mind!"
"Mom, I will live with you from now on. Can't you just take good care of us?" Xuemei was afraid of completely angering Liu's mother, so she quickly grabbed Liu's mother's arm and acted nice.
"I'll have to keep a close eye on you two then, you're both so extravagant. By the way, when Han Chen comes, ask her to give this box of mung bean cakes to your aunt next door. Your grandfather and second uncle already have them, so it won't be good for her not to have them!" said Liu's mother.
Xuemei nodded obediently, "I'll talk to Han Chen when he comes over!"
When Han Chen came over, Qingya had already returned. Shengnan even asked Qingya to bring back a pound of tofu and a small bowl of fried soybeans.
The family shared the remaining six mooncakes. After eating, Xuemei and Han Chen went next door. As soon as they entered the yard, they saw Zhou Bing delivering something to Shengnan. Xuemei was shocked when she saw Zhou Bing. Fortunately, Liu Xiu was still in the tofu shop and would be back in a while.
Zhou Bing was also a cautious person. He came from behind Liu Xiu's house avoiding people. Now Liu Xiu had not agreed to the relationship between Shengnan and Zhou Bing, so Shengnan did not dare to let the villagers know.
Xuemei waited until Zhou Bing left before taking Han Chen home. As soon as she got home, she saw Liu's father weaving baskets in the yard and Liu's mother sewing shoe soles nearby.
Taking advantage of his free time, Han Chen called Ruirui and Feifei out of the room and taught the two brothers to play basketball in the yard.
Qingya became interested in watching them play basketball. She put her homework aside and ran out of the room to play basketball with Han Chen and the others.
After watching Han Chen and the others play basketball for a while, Xuemei went back to her room to read. When Liu's mother finished steaming the chopped pepper fish and came to call Xuemei to go to the old house, Xuemei was already asleep in bed.
"Xuemei, get up. You didn't sleep well last night!" Mother Liu bent down and shook Xuemei's shoulders.
Xuemei rubbed her eyes and yawned. She replied, "No, I just read a book and got tired, so I took a nap!"
"Okay, go wash your face and wait for your two younger brothers to take a shower before going back to the old house!" Liu's mother ordered.
"What about Han Chen?" Xuemei asked.
"Han Chen went back to the educated youth center to change clothes and just came back!" Liu's mother walked towards the door.
Xuemei then got up from the bed. By the time she washed her face by the well, the family was already ready. They locked the gate, and Father Liu carried a basket of corn and a plate of chopped pepper fish, and the family walked towards the old house.
As they approached the old house, they saw Grandpa Wu carrying his little granddaughter home. Wu Xingqiao refused to let Wu Jianye hold her and struggled to get down and walk. In each hand, Wu Xingqiao held a grasshopper woven from palm leaves.
