Chapter 30, bathtub, overflowing, water.
Jin Huan heard this and slightly opened her mouth.
She probably found it hard to believe. In her eyes, Mr. Zhong had always been very healthy and in good health; he was the kind of person who wouldn't easily get sick in Jin Huan's eyes.
After all, she had truly witnessed his strong arms and sturdy thighs—a solid and reliable body that even viruses dared not approach.
Jin Huan's expression shifted from surprise to worry. She took two steps forward to Zhong Yan and carefully examined his face. Perhaps it was a psychological suggestion, but when she saw his face, she did feel that he was not doing well.
Jin Huan raised her hand and used the back of her hand to touch his forehead, asking anxiously, "Do you have a fever?"
Zhong Yan didn't speak, watching her lean over and her warm hand touch his skin.
Jin Huan couldn't really sense anything with her own touch, and seeing that he didn't speak, she became even more anxious: "Where does it hurt? Did you take your medicine?"
Zhong Yan looked at her and said in a low voice, "I feel uncomfortable."
If the illness affects the heart, then it is indeed quite serious. Jin Huan was thinking about going to the hospital to see a doctor when Zhong Yan stopped her.
He placed his hand on her wrist: "No need to go to the hospital."
Zhong Yan paused for a moment: "Sit with me for a while."
Upon hearing this, Jin Huan completely forgot about the porridge she was supposed to cook. She was anxious to help Zhong Yan sit down and rest, and then poured him some warm water to drink.
Jin Huan was still wondering why Zhong Yan had fallen ill.
The weather has been nice these past two days. Apart from the rainy day, it's been quite pleasant the rest of the time. The temperature is already rising, and she finds the weather quite comfortable. How come Mr. Zhong, who is in such good health, has fallen ill?
However, it might not be a cold; it could be due to fatigue.
He was on a business trip non-stop for a while, and then rushed back to China to spend Valentine's Day with her. Even now, he's been either staying up late with her or going out for social events. Even a strong person would get sick from all that.
That way, Jin Huan can understand.
"Have you had dinner yet? Would you like anything else to eat?" Jin Huan sat down next to him, always wanting to do something for him.
"You're making porridge for me too?" Zhong Yan's voice lacked enthusiasm, sounding genuinely uncomfortable. He looked down at her, "Why are you making porridge for everyone?"
Zhong Yan is certainly different from the others.
“Of course not,” Jin Huan denied, emphasizing, “I’m willing to do anything you need.”
You can do anything.
What can she do for him?
Zhong Yan said he wanted to take a hot bath and asked Jin Huan to join him. Jin Huan was a little taken aback. She paused for a moment, wondering why she should take a bath with her husband.
Even though she didn't understand, she nodded and agreed.
Jin Huan filled the bathtub with water, carefully adjusted the water temperature, found a bath bomb in the cabinet, put it in the water, and then turned to Zhong Yan to say that she was ready.
She was meticulous, as if she were arranging something of great importance.
"Not accompanying me?" Zhong Yan said slowly, "Not coming in... is that what you call accompanying me?"
We talked about showering together last time, but we've never actually done it.
Zhong Yan held her hand, watching as the temperature of her fingers slowly rose, the redness spreading up her neck. Zhong Yan gazed at her with such gentle eyes, leaving Jin Huan completely at a loss.
He then led her by the hand, and she stepped into the water, her entire body submerged until the water level was just above her chest.
Jin Huan rarely took baths before; to be precise, she had almost never taken a bath.
She used to shower at home or school and always thought taking a bath was a hassle. Besides, she couldn't stay in the bathtub for that long anyway.
The bathtub at home was large enough to easily accommodate two adults. Zhong Yan soaked in the water, his whole body slowly relaxing. Only his shoulders and a little bit of his chest were exposed. Water droplets slid slowly off his skin. He closed his eyes, his chest rose and fell slightly, and he let out a breath.
He stayed there quietly for a while.
The hot water in the bathtub quickly warmed her body, and her blood flowed faster. The slight chill she felt earlier was quickly dispelled, and Jin Huan found it quite comfortable.
Zhong Yan opened his eyes.
In the bathtub, their legs were touching. Jin Huan couldn't quite tell whether it was the temperature of the water or the temperature of his skin; in any case, it was very hot, hot everywhere.
"You spent the whole day in the lab again?" Zhong Yan was too busy today to chat with her, but Jin Huan was also very busy; her level of busyness lately was about the same as Zhong Yan's.
"Yes," Jin Huan said, her voice softened by the hot water, her words scalding. "We're almost done."
Thinking about this, and realizing that it was all thanks to Du Qingxu, who really meant it when he said he could finish in three days, and everyone was relieved, he fell ill and ended up in the hospital.
So Jin Huan couldn't help but criticize him again.
Du Qingxu is quite pitiful in some ways, and Jin Huan doesn't discuss his family situation with anyone. She only says that Du Qingxu is different from any of them; he has endured much more.
Zhong Yan's eyelids drooped slightly. He wasn't very interested in listening to her talk, but she was speaking, and her voice, blending into the warm atmosphere, sounded very pleasant.
Zhong Yan didn't interrupt her and listened to her.
"The doctor said his condition was really bad, many of his indicators were bad, and it was very serious."
“This situation… is also very worrying,” Zhong Yan replied. “I’ll take you to school tomorrow morning and go see him with you.”
Jin Huan exclaimed "Ah!" and asked in confusion, "You're going to see him?"
Zhong Yan nodded: "Tan Xi said he wanted to recommend him to my company. He's also your classmate, so of course I should take a look."
Jin Huan understood; so that's how it is.
Today, Teacher Tan and Du Qingxu had a conversation about this.
Jin Huan expressed her understanding and did not ask any further questions.
A layer of mist enveloped Zhong Yan's eyes. After discussing the topic of "Du Qingxu" with Jin Huan, his dark eyes seemed to have gained a sense of aggression, a kind of attack that was rarely seen in Zhong Yan.
He was always adept at hiding all his emotions beneath a gentle exterior, being tolerant, dignified, and restrained.
Even if something seems amiss, he won't easily reveal it.
"Let me hug you... Xiao Bao." Zhong Yan stared at her with such an aggressive gaze, his chin slightly tucked in, gesturing for Jin Huan to come closer.
Jin Huan hesitated for a moment.
She was still worried that Zhong Yan would say he wasn't feeling well, and she didn't know if his bath had helped at all, but she just couldn't resist the gentle voice he used to call her.
The water in the bathtub felt like it was blocking her way. Jin Huan held onto the edge of the tub, gripped it tightly, and slowly moved forward. Her knees were pressed against the bottom of the tub, and she felt a little uncomfortable, but before the pain could rise, he had already pulled her into his arms.
He wrapped his arm around her waist gently, and the next second he buried his head in her neck and shoulders, his deep breaths falling on her shoulder.
Zhong Yan's lips brushed against her skin as he softly called her, "Jin Huan... baby, little treasure."
Each sound made Jin Huan's heart and back tremble. It was the first time she had seen Zhong Yan like this, as if he was very attached to her, very fond of her, and even had a kind of... possessiveness that she had never felt before.
Such intimate hugs and terms of address are exactly like flirting between husband and wife. Mr. Zhong's voice alone can act as a catalyst, influencing his emotions. It is peaceful yet somewhat heavy, which makes Jin Huan unable to resist.
She couldn't stand it at all.
She likes it very much.
"Does this feel uncomfortable?" Zhong Yan was concerned about how she felt. People who don't take baths often are easily exhausted from soaking. He patiently asked her, patted her back, and leaned down a little so that she could lean more against him.
He completely placed her in a dominant position, made her the center of attention, and cared for her with such patience.
Jin Huan had a feeling that she was about to lose control.
It was full of water inside and outside, as if the water in the bathtub would "plop" and roll in. Even though the water outside was hot, the water inside was even hotter.
The water flows gently, spreading out to form a separate stream.
"Are you feeling unwell?" Zhong Yan asked again, pressing his fingers on her lower back, where her skin was red and soft from being soaked in water. He reached out and pulled her leg up, whispering, "If you're not feeling well, put your leg up."
If the two of them squeezed together, the bathtub would seem too small. Zhong Yan held her legs and made her wrap her arms around him. The slightly slippery liquid was different from plain water, and a sensitive person could feel it.
They were that close.
Of course that's how it is. Even though Jin Huan's way of addressing him still sounds a bit unfamiliar, no matter how many times she's done it, she still says "thank you" to him. Zhong Yan actually likes this cuteness.
She is really cute, so cute that it melts your heart.
His mood at this moment was indeed unusual, and what he said was not a lie; he felt uncomfortable... genuinely uncomfortable.
The woman in his arms is his wife.
She was just his wife.
The bathtub was crowded, everywhere was cramped, and it was so difficult to move around. Zhong Yan whispered in her ear, "Is this okay?"
Is it okay in the water?
It sounds like a question, but it's actually an affirmation. They're already inside, so why ask if it's okay, what if it is, or what if it isn't?
To be honest, this was the first time Jin Huan felt that Mr. Zhong was... really domineering.
The advantage of age is evident at any time. His control, his ability, and the strength in his bones are all evident. Even though he still appears so tolerant and gentle, Jin Huan touched his chest and asked her if she felt anything.
Jin Huan isn't a cardiologist, how would she know what's wrong with his heart?
The water was sloshing, and that's what she was thinking.
"It's almost healed." Zhong Yan's voice was hoarse, his palm resting on her chin. "My heart doesn't feel very uncomfortable anymore."
Jin Huan's heart was pounding. She only dared to lightly touch his chest with her fingers, and asked curiously, "Will this help?"
Can it also cure diseases?
"Mm," Zhong Yan replied.
Jin Huan then bent down and hugged him with both hands, making it so tight that it was almost impossible to squeeze him. She gritted her teeth and endured it, her face flushed as she obediently said, "I understand."
She now knows how to cure the disease.
Back in the room, Jin Huan took the initiative to hug Zhong Yan. Her waist and feet were a little sore, and her legs had been held by him the whole time, so they were a little stiff when separated. Zhong Yan then gently massaged the flesh on her legs with one hand.
Zhong Yan rested his chin on the top of her head. He was very relaxed and languid at the moment. The flesh in his palm was pressed softly. He said in a hoarse voice, "There's really a lot of water. It's overflowing from the bathtub."
How could that be? Of course not.
“You can’t lie through your teeth,” Jin Huan retorted softly, “...You have plenty too.”
"Really?" Zhong Yan replied casually. "Where are the rest?"
"You went too far tonight." Jin Huan only dared to mutter softly, but Zhong Yan could still hear her even in her softest voice, listening to her muttering to herself, resentfully continuing to mutter.
His behavior and words were excessive.
It was as if she had done something wrong and was being punished. Vision was whipping her to teach her a lesson, but Zhong Yan was always so gentle that she felt the analogy was inappropriate, even though the whipping was real.
Jin Huan buried her head in his chest.
“When I’m sick, I might lose control of my condition,” Zhong Yan said.
"You recovered so quickly." Jin Huan's voice came from his chest, sounding muffled. At this moment, she probably realized that she had been deceived by Mr. Zhong.
The heart is a very important organ. If there were really a problem with the heart, how could it have lasted for so long? She is also a medical professional. This is all a paradox.
Mr. Zhong actually lied to her, isn't that going too far?
“It didn’t get better very quickly either.” Zhong Yan paused, his tone turning cold. “You might still feel unwell tomorrow.”
Jin Huan gave a very soft hum.
Putting everything else aside, she simply didn't believe it.
"Excessive" means extremely excessive.
Jin Huan gently ground her teeth, wanting to bite him.
In the end, reason prevailed.
She's a coward; she doesn't dare.
