Chapter 40. It turned as red as a peach.
Zhong Yan has been in fear for over thirty years now.
His personality has been like this since he was a child, with few ups and downs. For him, everything can be solved, and rationality is the only thing that matters.
An emotion I have almost no memory of, or rather, one that I only had when I was very young, suddenly surged up the moment a certain thought popped into my head, like a bottle of soda that couldn't withstand the shock and the cap burst open.
A heart that should have been calm and peaceful.
And just like that, it was turned over completely and easily.
Zhong Yan jumped in and swam toward that spot. He moved quickly, and when he saw a glimpse of white clothing, his fear reached its peak in an instant. He plunged in and reached out to touch it, and suddenly the person in the water popped their head up.
"I'm practicing holding my breath."
She's currently focusing on practicing underwater breath-holding and standing up while exhaling. She's been practicing on her own and has found it quite interesting. She's been able to hold her breath underwater for longer and longer periods of time.
Before Jin Huan could finish speaking, she realized that Zhong Yan was in a bad mood. His face was cold and sullen, his chest heaving noticeably, and he stared at her coldly without saying a word. So she opened her mouth, feeling a little lost.
"Why didn't you answer when I called you just now?" Zhong Yan's voice was filled with barely suppressed emotion. His stern face inexplicably frightened Jin Huan, and she couldn't utter a word for a long time.
She did hear it.
She heard Zhong Yan calling her, and with a not-so-good intention of teasing him, she didn't come out of the water.
Given his personality, he should only worry about her a little at most.
And just think about it, how could she possibly drown in such shallow water? Even if something did happen, she wouldn't sink; she would definitely struggle.
Anyone with a decent brain could figure that out.
Realizing she had done something wrong, Jin Huan obediently lowered her head, thinking to herself that Zhong Yan was angry, he must be angry.
Unaware of the consequences of Zhong Yan's anger, Jin Huan stopped breathing, her mind went blank with panic, and her face turned red and white as she thought, "This is it, I'm doomed."
Why did you have to make a fuss with him for no reason?
"Come on up first." Zhong Yan's voice was still emotionless, his face was stern, but he still grabbed her arm and led her to the shore.
Feeling the water's gentle buoyancy, she held his arm tightly, showing no intention of letting go, until they reached the shore. He helped her aboard, then climbed up himself, pulling a towel from the side to wrap around her.
Zhong Yan didn't say a word the whole time. After tucking a towel around her, he gave her some water to drink.
Jin Huan took the cup and obediently drank it.
"Would you like to drink some more?" Jin Huan asked tentatively.
Zhong Yan didn't answer. His gaze slowly swept over her face, and he picked up the empty water glass, saying in a low voice, "Go take a shower."
"Oh." Jin Huan responded, gripping the edge of the bath towel, took two steps forward, then looked back. Zhong Yan's figure landed on the ground, his shadow alone exuding a somber aura, making the entire atmosphere even lower.
I felt uneasy and anxious while taking a bath.
She is very sensitive in this regard. Well-behaved children are the most likely to reflect on themselves. After realizing that they have done something wrong, they feel an overwhelming sense of guilt and have no intention of taking a proper bath. They simply rinse off the shower gel and shampoo and then dry themselves off.
Zhong Yan was in the living room on the first floor, with a laptop on her lap; if I'm not mistaken, she was working.
He had already showered, but instead of changing into his pajamas, he was wearing a bathrobe. He had one hand on his leg and the other on the computer keyboard, with water droplets still clinging to his honey-colored skin.
Jin Huan's skirt revealed two slender, straight legs. She peeked out from the doorway, not daring to call out to him, and slowly moved to the sofa, making a clattering sound with her slippers. He didn't even look up until Jin Huan moved back to his side.
Her hair wasn't completely dry; the ends were still damp, hanging over her collarbone. Her toes were almost touching his feet when Zhong Yan finally looked up at her.
When they met eyes, Jin Huan's throat tightened.
She gave a stiff smile and said softly, "Sir, I think I got water in my ear."
Jin Huan said this while inwardly cursing herself, thinking, "What do you mean by 'water doesn't go into your ears'? My brain must have been full of water long ago."
No wonder it felt shaky and made a sound when I woke up this morning.
Jin Huan nervously swallowed hard. She stole a glance at Zhong Yan, then quickly looked away. After standing there for a while, Zhong Yan put the computer aside and gestured to her with a faint look, signaling her to come over.
Jin Huan pursed her lips, sat down next to him, and slowly leaned her head closer.
Zhong Yan propped his thighs up, letting her lean her head against him. He took a cotton swab from the coffee table, placed one side of his palm against the edge of her cheek, and extended the cotton swab down along the edge of her ear.
The cotton swab gently vibrated her eardrum, sending a strange tingling sensation through her. The swab slowly and softly brushed against the fine hairs inside her ear, leaving a few water droplets. She couldn't help but grab it with her fingers, and her toes curled up unconsciously.
The tingling sensation in my tailbone is a little faint, but it's always there.
After Zhong Yan finished working on one ear, he patted her hand lightly, signaling her to turn to the other side.
He didn't say a word the whole time.
Jin Huan immediately understood what he meant, so she turned around.
With her face pressed against his chest, she could see the skin peeking out from the folds of his bathrobe. Jin Huan carefully grabbed a corner of his bathrobe and whispered an apology: "Sir, I was really wrong. I shouldn't have done that."
She didn't argue, she just obediently apologized. Vision had already walked to the corner with his hands behind his back to reflect on his actions: "Please forgive me, okay?"
"Don't be angry."
An apology requires the right attitude, and Jin Huan is the most aware of this. However, Zhong Yan has never been angry with her, and Jin Huan can't quite grasp the extent of his anger.
She was genuinely very nervous.
Zhong Yan stopped, holding a cotton swab in his hand. His eyes were cold and calm as he looked down at her, his brows slightly furrowed. There was a silent abyss in his eyes, and Jin Huan felt as if she were being sucked into that abyss, plunged into darkness. She couldn't understand what he was thinking.
In front of Zhong Yan, she was like a completely transparent being.
He simply continued to gaze at her, his eyes calm and unwavering, slowly looking through her as if he were thinking about something.
His gaze made Jin Huan feel breathless.
She mustered her courage and tugged at him: "If you're still really angry, then punish me."
Zhong Yan's expression changed at this moment. He narrowed his eyes slightly and asked in a calm voice, "How should I punish you?"
It's only right to be punished and disciplined by Daddy for doing something wrong. Jin Huan's eyes were full of remorse and guilt, like a little puppy wagging its tail. She saw his cold and imposing Adam's apple and suddenly felt that she also liked his emotionless appearance.
“I’m not angry,” Zhong Yan said. “I’m not angry with you.”
He suddenly lost control, and after being overturned several times, he felt an urge to get angry.
This is not how he should feel.
Under this emotional control, he wanted to stay by himself and think about some things.
The person on her lap was so soft it felt like she could melt into water, and her eyes were also filled with tears. She bit her lip as she looked at him, her sad expression almost overflowing. Zhong Yan was still trying to calm himself down. He had a cold face, one hand on her shoulder, and the other on her buttocks.
The collision caused a slight tremor; the force was not strong, but rather light. Jin Huan slowly clenched her fingers, and her breathing quickened twice.
"Jin Huan, is this really punishment?" Zhong Yan looked down at her, scrutinizing her.
Jin Huan seemed to be crying; she buried her head in her hands and didn't say anything, only her back was trembling slightly.
Zhong Yan stared at the back of her neck. It had probably been exposed to the sun for a while, as the downy hair there had turned golden. He sighed and said again, "I'm really not angry."
Despite his age advantage, he was quite helpless in this situation. His palm remained on the spot where he had just hit her, which was slightly warm. The girl's skin was soft, and she was lying there so obediently that he simply couldn't do anything about it.
Jin Huan nodded at this moment.
Zhong Yan saw her eyes were filled with tears, and he asked in a low voice, "You like it, don't you?"
His wife in his arms clearly didn't understand either; she only knew that she liked it and that it would make her feel comfortable.
He was happy to do things that made her feel comfortable.
Especially after he had just fully realized this different feeling he had.
Zhong Yan's hand landed again, this time with more points of contact. Zhong Yan's voice was deep: "Jin Huan, would you prefer it to hurt a little more?"
Jin Huan gritted her teeth, neither nodding nor shaking her head.
"When it turns red, it will look like a peach." Zhong Yan said calmly, without any flirting intention. But the more he enjoyed himself, the more he noticed the abnormality on his skin. He continued to say it.
"If you lie down, it will look even more like it... if only Daddy can see this part."
His two short sentences had already made Jin Huan hallucinate that scene.
I lay down like last time, the only thing in the air was the trembling peach.
She came to apologize, but somehow it turned out like this. Jin Huan felt most ashamed for her insincere apology.
Sigh... why did it turn out like this...?
Shame, remorse, and self-reproach mingled together, making her feel a tightness in her chest, as if a breath was stuck there, preventing her from rising or falling, leaving her feeling suffocated.
"Is it comfortable or uncomfortable?" Zhong Yan asked her again.
That little bit of shame wasn't enough; there were embarrassing moments she'd had in front of Zhong Yan, so Jin Huan answered softly, "...comfortable."
Zhong Yan hummed in agreement. He gradually increased the pressure of his kneading, and seeing the person in his arms close their eyes, the tension gradually dissipated. It seemed they liked it this way. He continued kneading, and the atmosphere became quiet for a short while. After the silence, he slowly asked, "Still want to play around?"
Jin Huan let out a sob, her voice muffled, and then shook her head.
Zhong Yan lowered his eyes, composed himself, and explained to her, "I was worried just now."
"Because I was worried about you, I couldn't control my emotions." Zhong Yan could no longer describe that feeling. He wasn't the type to say things like that, but now he was saying, "Jin Huan, I just thought that I was like this because of you."
He cupped his hands together, trying to express to her this feeling that was unfamiliar even to himself, something he couldn't fully describe in words. So he asked her softly, "Can you understand?"
