Chapter 58 - An Ending.
They had a great time frolicking in the snow.
She looked up and smiled at Zhong Yan, saying she would come back to play in the snow again tomorrow morning.
Zhong Yan watched her from the balcony. His eyes crinkled with laughter as he saw her happy; his affection was almost overflowing.
However, Jin Huan didn't stay for long.
The snow had just started falling, and it filled her neck, melting as soon as it touched her skin. Jin Huan shivered, caught a few snowflakes, and happily ran back.
The meal was very enjoyable.
New Year's Eve fireworks happen every year, but this year there was both snow and fireworks. It's hard to imagine such a scene. So, when I stood on the balcony and looked out, I felt my emotions changing like flowing water.
"I still remember the first year we watched fireworks together, it was New Year's Eve." Jin Huan leaned against Zhong Yan, her hand in his. Snowflakes were falling outside, as if the world was turning into a fairy tale. Fireworks bloomed in the sky, silvery white.
The whole world turned white.
The scenes of fireworks flashed before my eyes year after year, and in that instant of joy, I sighed at the passage of time.
She has been living this kind of life for five years.
"You know what? I was just thinking, it's already been five years." Jin Huan exclaimed, "Five years goes by so fast, even faster than my previous twenty-odd years."
"Yes, five years." Zhong Yan responded calmly, always responding gently, and then asked her, "Why do you feel it went by so fast?"
Jin Huan tilted her head.
Why?
She thought about this problem seriously.
"Because there are very few worries." Jin Huan felt that this could be the answer. She was spiritually fulfilled and rich. Although she still had confusion in other areas, from her studies and work, she felt that life was very interesting and full of hope.
This is the source of how quickly time passes.
"Do you think we'll still be like this in the next five years?" Jin Huan asked with anticipation, "to still be able to watch fireworks together like this, to still have the same feelings as we do now, and to still love each other like this...."
Let's not bring up the question of whether they love each other or not. This doesn't form a question with Zhong Yan, so we can ignore it.
Zhong Yan asked gently, "Why not fifty years?"
Having her in his life was a precious and happy thing. Last night, Zhong Yan had a nightmare, which was rare for him. He dreamed that at that point in time, Jin Huan did not come to him. He lived a very ordinary and lonely life, like the old man in the old man in the sea, which was probably very tragic.
Zhong Yan had long known that he could not live without Jin Huan; this was something that could not be changed.
"Fifty years! I'll be almost eighty by then." Jin Huan couldn't imagine herself at that age, which would most likely be the end of her life. Young people these days have such bad lifestyles, especially someone like her. People joke that she might not even live to collect her pension.
Don't even mention how the retirement age is getting more and more surreal these days.
Zhong Yan is different.
Although he is older than her, he exercises regularly and pays attention to his lifestyle. Every result of his physical examination is excellent. With his strong physique, he could easily live to be over a hundred years old.
Jin Huan blurted out, "I might die before you... I don't think I'll live to be eighty."
As soon as he finished speaking, Zhong Yan's breathing became heavy, as if the clear sky had suddenly been filled with dark clouds. The oppressive feeling was so urgent that Jin Huan's breathing was abruptly interrupted, and her back stiffened. She dared not look at Zhong Yan.
He realized he had said the wrong thing the next second.
What's with all this talk about whether you'll live to a certain age?
Just as she was about to say something to salvage the situation, Zhong Yan said, "Jin Huan, before you say anything, please consider my feelings."
He paused, his tone sinking into an ice cellar: "I haven't mastered the art of living either."
He is not completely indifferent to age.
Occasionally, when he thinks that his age is almost starting with the number 4, an indescribable feeling wells up in his heart. He and Jin Huan did not meet when he was young, but only a few years later he has reached this age, which makes him feel a kind of pain like a thorn stuck in his heart.
It doesn't hurt much, but because the thorn is embedded in my flesh and can't be pulled out, I often think about it and feel it as time goes by, and I can't help but think about it often.
In a numerical sense, he is approaching that age.
The time I can spend with Jin Huan is getting shorter and shorter.
Like any ordinary human being, he also fears growing old and is afraid of death.
Zhong Yan's gaze held a reprimanding tone, which made Jin Huan quickly realize her mistake. After a moment of silence, Jin Huan spoke softly, "Mr. Zhong, are you going to argue with me about this?"
Don't take things seriously if you haven't thought them through. It's clear that Zhong Yan would never hold anything against her before.
"I'm arguing with you?" Zhong Yan said calmly. "Do you look like someone who would argue with someone?"
He is even less likely to be one.
Zhong Yan always treated his subordinates with an imposing and dignified demeanor. He never used verbal arguments to demonstrate his authority, as he considered it the lowest and most unnecessary behavior.
There is no need for authority when dealing with one's wife.
The fireworks in the sky ended at this moment, and only the snow was still falling. At the current rate, there will definitely be a thick layer of snow when I wake up tomorrow morning.
By then, we might even be able to build a snowman.
Zhong Yan spoke up, saying, "Jin Huan, you need to re-examine your significance to me. It's important because you've become an integral part of my life."
Jin Huan is not only a part of his life, but also a part of his body. A person's body needs to be whole to be healthy and to live. Jin Huan is the part that makes him whole.
Jin Huan's perception was always slower than his.
Zhong Yan drank two glasses of wine tonight, which was nothing to him, and he didn't even smell of alcohol. But his tone of voice sounded like he was soaked in alcohol.
Jin Huan nodded with her eyes open: "I know you love me very much."
“It’s more than just love,” Zhong Yan said softly. “It’s become more than just love.”
"What is that?" Jin Huan didn't understand, and she was also very curious.
Zhong Yan stroked her forehead with his fingers, cupped her cheek with his palm, and tried to lift her up with the width of his palm. He pressed his fingertips down on her temples, the most vulnerable spot, trying to protect it carefully.
He never had this look in his eyes before, never had this feeling... It was probably like wanting to turn her into something and hide her in his pocket.
Jin Huan is very sensitive to emotions. Just like now, even though Zhong Yan's voice is still so gentle, he is in a bad mood. The trigger for this bad mood is that she said "I won't live long". She gently held his hand and said, "No matter what, I am the same as you".
The feelings are the same, the love is the same.
They are a married couple, and all their emotions and everything they do complement each other.
Jin Huan is also very good at comforting people, especially Zhong Yan. She is quite experienced in comforting people, or perhaps it is instinctive for her to do so.
Her eyes were so gentle they seemed to overflow with tears, making Zhong Yan want to see those tears actually spill out of her eyes.
Thinking of these things while expressing love, Zhong Yan couldn't help but laugh self-deprecatingly.
Seeing him smile, Jin Huan's eyes also smiled, and she asked in a coquettish tone, "What's wrong with you now?"
"Just now, I suddenly really wanted to pin you down on the bed..." Zhong Yan's voice was very low after that, which was probably something like, "I wanted to make her moan and call me 'daddy'..."
Jin Huan's eyes softened even more, and she reassured him, "It's because you love me, and I like you that way too."
Jin Huan leaned on his shoulder and whispered her heart out to him. In the five years since she met him and got married, she often felt very happy, and there were some things she wanted to tell him slowly.
No need to rush, they will be together for many more years, have children, and have a more advanced family.
These are things that will happen in the future, things that will be measured in a lifetime.
"Jin Huan, you're quite good at coaxing people," Zhong Yan praised her softly.
I want to use a lot of adjectives to praise her: she's beautiful, cute, smart... all of these words are suitable to describe her.
"You sound like the kind of person who would ask me online if my baby could be a child model."
She laughed, her warm breath brushing against his neck. She blew slowly, making his neck turn slightly red. Due to the generation gap, he didn't understand what she meant, so he said, "Baby."
Jin Huan responded with a "Mm".
Zhong Yan leaned down and kissed her ear: "Let's go back to the room."
He bent down to hug her.
That night was very enjoyable. Jin Huan was so exhausted that she was trembling, but she still clung to Zhong Yan's neck and wouldn't let go. Zhong Yan could only coax her gently and try to reason with her, asking him to come out first, because it couldn't go on like this forever.
"You don't like talking to me like this?" Jin Huan gripped his arm, her voice broken. "Daddy, I like it."
Tonight, Daddy is being overly indulgent.
As long as she's okay and feels comfortable, even if it might harm her health, he'll still compromise. At worst, he'll just apply the medicine more frequently afterward. In short, he'll take care of her health.
"Will you spoil our children like this in the future?" Jin Huan asked him.
"Will the child and Xiaobao be the same?" Zhong Yan asked.
Be strict when necessary, and indulge when appropriate.
This is his idea.
When Jin Huan nestled into his arms, she wrapped her arms around his neck and called him "Daddy" countless times. His shoulders were so broad, as were his arms. Lying there like that, she thought that even in five years, or ten years, Daddy would still be like this, belonging only to her.
"Do you know what role-playing is?" This was the first time Jin Huan had been so tired yet still managed to chatter on and on. If she weren't too lazy to even move her fingers, she would have been in a very good mood.
They haven't even figured out the child model issue yet, and now they're asking this? Zhong Yan thought about it seriously for a moment, "I think I can probably understand."
Jin Huan raised her chin and rested it against his chest, deliberately asking, "What?"
Zhong Yan lowered his head to meet her gaze and said gently, "For example, I really am your daddy... that's what I mean."
"Or are there other kinds of play, like role-playing, right?"
Jin Huan was utterly astonished.
Zhong Yan is smart; he understands things after hearing them only once, even things he doesn't know before. This shows the difference in intelligence between people.
"So Xiaobao likes this." Zhong Yan lowered his head and tolerantly agreed, "You can try it next time."
She has a day off next month, and he has less work, so he agreed to go to the beach with her.
I've been swimming with her every summer for the past few years, and now she's a little water sprite, able to swim freely. Not content with the swimming pool, she's always wanted to go to the beach.
Before graduating, she was always busy, but this year she finally had time to go.
“It will be ready next month,” Zhong Yan told her.
The next morning, Jin Huan was woken up by kisses. The snow outside was so thick that the child who wanted to play could go play by herself. Otherwise, she would oversleep and complain that he didn't wake her up.
Building snowmen and having snowball fights are winter-related activities. Her aunt said that when she was little, she also loved to play these games when she was being mischievous.
"Will you come with me?" Jin Huan barely opened her eyes and saw a white expanse outside the window. The reflected light was too dazzling. She was very tired, but she still remembered.
Jin Huan wrapped herself up tightly, putting on a scarf, thick socks, and snow boots. Fully equipped, she stepped into the snow that hadn't been trampled all night, her feet crunching loudly.
She was having a great time, her all-white outfit blending perfectly with the snow. Zhong Yan stood at the door watching her, thinking to himself that just looking at his wife like this warmed his heart. With her there, there was always a warm spot in his heart, enveloped by her warmth.
Jin Huan grabbed a handful of snow, ran over to show it to him, and before he could react, quickly kissed him on the cheek.
This gentle warmth is therefore even more powerful.
.
Before spring arrived, Zhong Yan bought a courtyard for Jin Huan.
This courtyard is located on the outskirts of the city, next to a resort area. The scenery is beautiful, and it was bought specifically for Jinhuan to grow flowers.
Jin Huan had always loved growing flowers. After graduating with her doctorate, she had more time and bought a lot of plants to grow on her balcony. Two years ago, Zhong Yan invested in this resort area and happened to see this courtyard. It was nestled against the mountains and by the water, with a humid climate, so he thought it would be a good place to grow flowers and simply bought it for Jin Huan.
In addition, we invited a professional to provide guidance.
She was a girl around the same age as Jin Huan, majoring in horticulture. She used to be a private gardener at a manor, and later she worked full-time at her husband's company cultivating some rare and special varieties. Because Zhong Yan was acquainted with her husband, and after hearing Zhong Yan mention that his wife loved growing flowers, she offered to provide her with some preliminary professional guidance.
Jin Huan and she got along quite well. They were about the same age and had similar personalities. They even talked about their husbands, who were very similar in some ways, like looking in a mirror.
Jin Huan didn't intend to focus all her attention on work. Having other interests was also good for her. For example, right now, she was looking forward to the flowers in the yard blooming. When spring came, the whole yard would be full of blooming flowers, and one could imagine how beautiful it would be.
Like Monet's garden.
She wanted to create that kind of image.
When the flowers bloom, you can take the most beautiful ones home.
Zhong Yan noticed that she had been neglecting him lately because of her flower gardening, making him feel insignificant despite his age. He couldn't help but sigh and, in the morning, he subtly inquired whether she wanted to buy the neighboring courtyards as well.
Jin Huan blinked: "You want to grow flowers too?"
Zhong Yan nodded: "Elderly people living alone may need to cultivate their minds by growing flowers."
Jin Huan immediately understood what he meant. She slowly sat on his lap, looked up at him, and reasoned with him: "I'm with you every day."
And he wasn't ignored for any reason.
Don't talk about whether she'll stay with you or not; only she knows what's on her mind.
Zhong Yan looked at her without saying a word.
Jin Huan exposed him: "You're even jealous of flowers now, that's really petty."
Zhong Yan didn't refute her. He said, "Or you can plant my heart in the soil too, and wait for it to bloom together in spring."
This was a very novel idea, and Jin Huan asked curiously, "Why?"
Zhong Yan said calmly, "I'll wait for you to water it every day."
What should it look like?
Jin Huan buried her face in his arms with a smile, and to make up for it, she disregarded the fact that it was still daytime and decided to "water him".
Sunlight streamed in through the window; the sunlight in this season is warm and shimmering, making the water droplets appear wet.
You can still water it every day even if you don't bury it in the soil.
Looking at the branches and leaves that had already sprouted flower buds, Jin Huan thought that she didn't need to wait for spring; her life would always be a vibrant and flourishing spring.
Just like he had praised her for having a good name.
When life is going well, one should enjoy every day to the fullest.
