Chapter 24 Rainy Night
“Boom!”
Amidst the thunder, a flash of lightning streaked across the night sky, and Yu Huan suddenly opened his eyes.
The dark room was illuminated by the afterglow of lightning, and the curtains were wet from the rain blowing in from outside, sticking to the wall.
In my ears, there were bursts of sharp and piercing cell phone ringtones.
Yu Huan finally came to his senses, picked up his cell phone to answer the call, and jumped out of bed to close the window.
"Hello?"
"Xiao Huan, are you asleep?" It was He Xiaowei's voice on the other end of the phone.
"I just woke up, what happened?" When Yu Huan closed the window, he looked at the heavy rain outside and marveled inwardly.
The rain is too heavy.
He Xiaowei's voice was a little anxious. "Mr. Meng is drunk and can't come into the house. Xiaoman and I are in her hometown now and can't get back. You see..."
He knew it wasn't nice to ask a girl to come in the middle of the night, but besides the housekeeper, they were the only two people who could enter Meng Han's house, and he couldn't just ask the housekeeper to come.
"Why can't I get into the house?" Yu Huan was a little puzzled. Even if Meng Han passed out drunk, his door could be unlocked with fingerprints, and Master He could use his hand to open it. It shouldn't be impossible for him to get in, right?
He Xiaowei explained: "Mr. Meng has calluses on his fingertips, so his fingerprints don't work. Master He tried for a long time but to no avail."
Yu Huan was a little anxious now. It was raining so heavily and he was drunk. It would be very troublesome if he couldn't get into the house.
"Okay, I'll be there now."
"You don't have to go. I'll ask Master He to come pick you up. You just need to open the door, and he'll take you back after he's done."
"Okay, then I'll contact Master He directly."
After hanging up the phone with He Xiaowei, Yu Huan contacted Master He.
Master He had just sent her back yesterday and knew which hotel she was staying in. After they agreed on it, she hung up the phone and started to change her clothes.
Fortunately, she is staying in a hotel now, otherwise her parents would definitely make a fuss if they knew that she had to open the door for her drunk boss in the middle of the night.
She calculated the time when Master He would arrive and went downstairs a few minutes in advance to wait.
The rainstorm came suddenly and was very heavy. When Yu Huan went downstairs, a strong wind blew her hair all over the place. The rain drifted into the eaves with the wind, causing goose bumps on her body.
The hotel was right next to the road, so she just stood downstairs and waited. In a few minutes, a familiar car appeared in front of her.
Yu Huan opened his umbrella, ran to the passenger seat in the heavy rain, and got into the car as quickly as possible.
Even so, her body was still quite wet from the falling rain.
"It's the middle of the night, sorry to bother Secretary Yu." The driver, Master He, said to Yu Huan as he turned around.
"It's okay, this is my job."
Yu Huan turned his head to look back. Meng Han was sitting quietly in the back seat, with his eyes closed and his head leaning against the car door. People who didn't know the situation would think he was asleep, not drunk.
She frowned slightly, "Why did Mr. Meng drink so much today?"
After following Meng Han for half a year, she had never seen Meng Han drunk, let alone being so drunk that he couldn't even get into the house.
Master He shook his head. "I don't know. Maybe he was in a bad mood. When I sent him to the old house, I felt that he was not very happy."
"Did he drink wine in the old house?" Yu Huan exclaimed.
Master He nodded. "Yes, when I was waiting for him in the side hall, I heard from other drivers that it seemed that Mr. Meng's cousin had returned to China, and they specially held a welcoming banquet for him at the old house."
Yu Huan felt even more puzzled. Although Meng Han never talked about his family affairs, Yu Huan knew a little bit about it after being with him for some time.
The Meng family is a family with very strict family rules and also a family with many children.
The current head of the Meng family, Meng Changqing, who is also Meng Han’s grandfather, has three sons and two daughters.
The eldest son, Meng Yunhai, is currently the chairman of Hui'an Group and has two sons and two daughters.
The second son, Meng Yunjiang, is currently the vice president of Hui'an Group and has three sons.
The third son, Meng Yunhe, is currently the vice president of Hui'an Group and has one son and two daughters.
Not to mention daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, etc., there are ten adult grandchildren alone.
Everyone is eyeing this family property.
According to outside rumors, the ones that Mr. Meng loves the most are his youngest son Meng Yunhe, born to his current wife, and his only son Meng Tan.
But the ones who were most valued were his eldest son Meng Yunhai, born to his first wife, and his two sons, Meng Qin and Meng Shou.
As the second son of the second son Meng Yunjiang, Meng Han ranks sixth among the grandchildren. He is neither the first nor the last, which is a very awkward position.
His father was not valued or loved, so naturally, the child of this unvalued and unloved son would be even less loved.
To have reached where he is today and serve as the general manager of a subsidiary, he has put in many times more effort than others.
Yu Huan once heard He Xiaowei mention that Meng Han had been smarter than others since he was a child. His parents had high hopes for him and were extremely strict with him, even to the point of being picky. They had extremely high standards for his words and actions.
When they first met, He Xiaowei felt that he was like a robot following instructions.
For Meng Han, the Meng family's old house is a battlefield, a battle of wits and courage with his relatives, a battlefield filled with swords and sabers as he clinks glasses.
So every time he went to the old house, he would pay special attention to his clothes and his expression would be more serious, not allowing himself to make any mistakes.
How could he allow himself to drink until he passed out?
Yu Huan couldn't help but look towards the back row again. Seeing his frown due to discomfort, he asked himself.
What did you encounter over there?
She felt a little blocked in her heart, worried and sad, and she couldn't figure it out.
She retracted her gaze and sat back in her seat.
The car drove slowly in the heavy rain and took twice as long as before to reach Meng Han's house.
The car drove directly into the underground parking lot and took the elevator in the garage to the second floor.
With Master He supporting Meng Han, Yu Huan wasn't too tired. She was just responsible for opening the door and lending a hand occasionally.
After helping Meng Han onto his bed, Master He felt the urge to pee. "Secretary Yu, could you please take off Mr. Meng's shoes? I'm going to the bathroom."
"Okay, go ahead."
Yu Huan turned his head to look at Meng Han who was lying on the bed. He walked forward to take off his shoes, then walked to the head of the bed, intending to take off his coat and tie as well.
As soon as her fingers touched him, they were grabbed and her eyes, which were originally closed, suddenly opened.
When Yu Huan suddenly met those eyes, his chest tightened. After he came to his senses, he found that those eyes were not clear, but were filled with strong drunkenness.
"Mr. Meng, it's me."
Fortunately, the other party was still rational. He let go of Yu Huan's hand and rubbed his head with an uncomfortable expression.
"Secretary Yu?" His voice was extremely hoarse, without any trace of his usual clear and sharp voice.
"Yes, it's me. Mr. Meng, since you're awake, do you want to get up and wash your face before going back to sleep?"
Meng Han supported himself with his hands and sat up on the bed. He raised his hands and rubbed his forehead again. He seemed to be in great pain.
"Sorry to bother you so late, please go back, I can do it myself."
As he said that, he stood up from the bed, rubbed his head and walked towards the bathroom.
