Chapter 48: Asking for Leave
Meng Han looked unhappy, "What's going on?"
"Secretary Yu is sick. She called me early this morning and asked me to cover for her. The sound was like sawing, so she must be seriously ill." He Xiaowei explained, then added, "She asked me to ask for leave for her. She has been here for exactly one year and hasn't taken her annual leave yet. Chinese New Year is just a week away, so she wants to take her annual leave and come back to work after the New Year."

The two of them were almost done wrapping when He Xiaowei's stepmother, Gao Li's biological mother, came out of the kitchen and said, "You two, stop wrapping now and go to the Hunan restaurant downstairs and wait. Xiaowei's groomsmen and classmates are coming over. Xiaowei is still at the wedding venue and can't make it back. You two should help entertain them."
Yu Huan stopped and almost stood up.
He Xiaowei's best man is coming now?

The person in the lead knew Takanashi, and after the two greeted each other, he began to introduce them.
There were three men and two women in total, and Meng Han was not among them.

These people were all of He Xiaowei's age, seven or eight years older than Yu Huan and Gao Li. They didn't have much common topics to talk about, so the meal was dull.
There was only one man who was quite enthusiastic. He sat next to Yu Huan and would occasionally take the initiative to chat with her during the meal.
These were all normal social topics. He wasn't overly enthusiastic, but he also didn't let Yu Huan fail to notice his attentiveness. He struck the right balance.
Gao Li, who was on the other side of Yu Huan, also noticed it and secretly winked at Yu Huan.

Yu Huan sighed, "Who knows? I don't think they can do such a thing. Besides, I don't want to get married at all, so why should I delay others?"
Yu Huan never told anyone that she had never expected marriage from the bottom of her heart. She was an unfortunate person and she didn't want to bring this misfortune to others.
Moreover, she had no confidence that she, having grown up in such an environment, could manage a family and educate a child well.
She simply didn't believe she could do it.
