The nurse walked towards Yang Xiao again. At that moment, looking at the figure walking towards her in the distance, Yang Xiao was so nervous that she had difficulty swallowing. When she learned that she had to take the bill to pay, her heart calmed down a little. So she carried her bag and followed the nurse's instructions to pay. Mao Qiu stayed where she was and continued to wait for the result.

The payment counter is still as bright as ever, revealing the embarrassment people face when they are sick.

Yang Xiao took out some change and whole bills from the mezzanine, counted them again and again, and when she handed it over, a bill floated to her feet. She immediately bent down to pick it up, and when she stood up, she bumped into the protruding edge of the counter and groaned in pain.

The lady at the cashier's counter immediately gave her a questioning look: "Are you okay? Be careful."

She gave a silly laugh and said it was okay. She handed over the bill and rushed to meet Mao Qiu. When she found Mao Qiu, she was squatting at the edge of the corridor, her eyes fixed. Until she saw Yang Xiao running over, Mao Qiu looked at Yang Xiao's flying ponytail and sweaty forehead, and suddenly thought of the day they first met.

She argued loudly for her in the dormitory, the veins on her neck bulging with effort, her face flushed crimson, her mouth firing like a machine gun. Mao Qiu thought about it and felt a little guilty. What a good friend she was.

By the time Yang Xiao had recovered for a while, the results came out.

It seemed that her wish was not fulfilled, and her father did not hear her longing. The nurse holding the examination form also became serious and took Mao Qiu to the doctor's office again. This time, the doctor came out soon. The doctor asked Yang Xiao for the contact information of Mao Qiu's parents. Yang Xiao shook her head and said she didn't know. The doctor also told Yang Xiao that this might involve underage rape and she needed her cooperation and could not help Mao Qiu hide it. The police would be here soon.

Yang Xiao felt like her heart was hit by a heavy drum. She continued to shake her head and said that she really didn't know. After she finished speaking, she found that her voice had begun to tremble. The doctor's words lingered in Yang Xiao and Mao Qiu's ears over and over again, and Mao Qiu began to cry again.

The police arrived quickly and, using Maoqiu's identification, quickly contacted her parents. It was Maoqiu's mother who answered the call. She softly asked, "Who is this? What's going on?" Maoqiu's father's deafening snoring echoed in her ears. The officer said something, but Maoqiu seemed completely deafened, her ears ringing.

What followed was endless waiting. Yang Xiao suddenly realized that she and Li Maoqiu seemed to have been waiting, waiting for the result, waiting for her parents to arrive, waiting for the next trial. Things became more and more simple and mechanical, just waiting.

What surprised Yang Xiao was that not only Mao Qiu's parents came, but also Zhou Daye and Zhou Qi.

Li Maoqiu's mother looked at her daughter's red and swollen eyes, leaning back in a chair in a single layer of clothing, tears streaming down her face. She hugged her, patted her head, and called her name over and over again. She then took Maoqiu's cold hand and held it in her arms. Li Maoqiu's father stood at the door, silent. The wind repeatedly blew out his lighter, and the cigarette in his hand took a long time to light.

Zhou Daye and Zhou Qi saw Yang Xiao standing nearby and quickly walked towards her. Zhou Daye spread out a piece of clothing and put it on Yang Xiao, then stuttered and asked her, "Are you cold?" Yang Xiao shook her head and stole a glance at Zhou Qi beside her. Zhou Qi noticed her gaze but avoided it, remaining silent.

The police took Mao Qiu and his parents there for questioning again, along with the doctor.

Yang Xiao knew this was nothing more than another act of hurting Maoqiu. She would have to tear open that bloody wound, expose it to everyone, and recount over and over how it had been inflicted by someone else, and how she had resisted. Her struggle, or lack thereof, would be crucial in determining who was right and who was wrong. And was that demon, lying in bed right now, peacefully asleep, dreaming the sweet dreams Li Maoqiu hadn't had in months, with a smile that could never reach Li Maoqiu's face?

Yang Xiao didn't dare to think about it anymore. She just felt nauseous and heartbroken.

As for Zhou Qi, she knew that he was angry that she brought Mao Qiu to the hospital without asking for her help. After all, he rarely showed his silent side to her.

So she spoke first: "Uncle Zhou, Zhou Qi, I'm sorry."

Zhou Daye was stunned when he heard this, then realized that Yang Xiao was apologizing for the lie she had told. He quickly waved his hand and wanted to touch her head and tell her it was okay. As soon as his hand touched Yang Xiao's head, she hissed. Zhou Qi's expression and attitude changed, and he hurried to see what happened to her head. Now it was Yang Xiao's turn to be at a loss. Before she could finish her words, the situation calmed down for a moment because of the big bump on her head. She touched her nose awkwardly and said, "It's okay, I just bumped into it when I paid the bill."

While pretending to scold Yang Xiao for being careless, Zhou Dashe also imitated Yang Xiao's previous look and secretly glanced at Zhou Qi, and began to slowly make polite remarks: "Okay... okay... Xiao... Xiaoer didn't mean it... There's a reason... There's a reason." Zhou Qi finally spoke: "If there are any urgent matters in the future, we will take care of them. You know that it's very dangerous. Dad, you too, you know who the owner of the convenience store is. He gave you money and still threw it on the street."

Zhou Daye nodded and said, "Thank goodness!"

After the tense situation between the three people eased a little, Maoqiu's parents and their group also came out. Maoqiu's father went to handle the hospitalization procedures first, and his mother kept hugging Maoqiu. Both of them had red and swollen eyes. When they saw Zhou Daye's family, Maoqiu's mother did not forget the etiquette. She thanked Yang Xiao and told Zhou Daye and Zhou Qi that she had caused them trouble. After listening, the three of them shook their heads and waved their hands, saying that it was okay.

After Mao Qiu was admitted, Zhou Qi took Yang Xiao and Zhou Daye to a hotel across from the hospital. He booked a room for each, then left, saying he was staying in the dormitories. Seeing Zhou Qi and Uncle Zhou looking exhausted from rushing in all night, their eyes bloodshot, Yang Xiao felt incredibly guilty. She felt like a child pretending to be mature despite not having handled anything properly.

Lying on the bed in the hotel, Yang Xiao tossed and turned, unable to sleep.

This was her second time in the city, and it seemed like every time I'd end up with insomnia. Last time, I'd been unable to sleep because of the excitement and excitement of the geography final exam. What was the reason this time? Was it because she was worried about Mao Qiu, or because she'd seen the evils of society? That ivory tower held her boundless ideals and aspirations, but it seemed as if it were made of paper, and along with those ideals, they were instantly crushed to dust by the impact of reality. So, what was the point of studying?

Yang Xiao thought about these questions over and over again. She desperately wanted an answer, but obviously, there was no answer here.
