49 grievances

As soon as Yang Xiao finished speaking, Zhao Mutao rushed in with a folder tucked under his arm. Seeing her pale face leaning against the glass cabinet, he took two steps forward and helped her up. "Mr. Yang, I have a document here for you to take a look. I need your signature."

"Okay, go out and sign." Yang Xiao could no longer straighten her back, and her voice was much weaker than usual. The skin on her lower back facing the cabinet door handle was stinging, and after the friction from her clothes, she felt a burning sensation.

Yang Zhi turned his face away, not daring to look at Yang Xiao's tightly furrowed brows and pale face. A wave of fear and annoyance surged in his heart. What on earth was he doing? "I'll sign, you take Mr. Yang to the hospital." He spoke in a dry voice and took a step back mechanically.

Zhao Mutao looked hesitant. Seeing Yang Xiao biting her lower lip tightly, he made up his mind and handed the folder over. "Then I'll take Mr. Yang away first."

Yang Zhi nodded, opened the drawer, and handed the car keys that usually jingled to Zhao Mutao. He took the folder and said, "Go ahead, drive my car, and hurry up."

Zhao Mutao didn't refuse. He took the car keys and helped Yang Xiao walk away.

The office finally fell completely silent. Yang Zhi seemed to have calmed down. He bent down to pick up the chair that had fallen to the ground, pulled a pen from the pen holder, and opened the folder.

There was nothing on it except two blank A4 papers.

I flipped through the pages, but nothing came up.

Yang Zhi suddenly laughed at himself and threw the folder into the trash can. Zhao Mutao didn't know how long he had stood at the door or how much he had heard, but he knew that he had completely lost the face to stay in Zhimiao.

"Mr. Yang, please bear with me. I'll try to drive faster." Zhao Mutao opened the back door, helped Yang Xiao in, and gently lifted her foot to move it toward the door. "Watch your feet."

The place where her lower back hit just touched the back of the seat, and she groaned in pain, "It's okay, Mu Tao, drive safely."

"Okay, Mr. Yang, I'm closing the door." Seeing Yang Xiao's forehead soaked with sweat and a few strands of hair stuck to it, Zhao Mutao was afraid that closing the door too tightly might hurt her.

Along the way, the only sound in the car besides the whistling wind outside the window was the sound of Yang Xiao's breathing, which she tried hard to suppress but still reached Zhao Mutao's ears.

After arriving at the hospital and going to the emergency room, the doctor pressed on Yang Xiao's lower back. The piercing pain instantly shot up along the spine. Yang Xiao hissed, and the physiological tears that came out rolled back and forth in her eyes.

"Does it hurt here? How did you get hurt?"

Yang Xiao said weakly, "I was pushed and then hit the glass cabinet door."

The doctor frowned, his fingers tapping rapidly on the keyboard. "You need an X-ray to rule out any bone damage. There's deep bruising in your lower back, and the soft tissue appears to be severely injured."

Zhao Mutao retrieved a stack of documents and stared at the diagnosis of "severe lumbar soft tissue contusion." He choked up as he spoke, "Mr. Yang, the doctor told me to take good care of myself. It's my fault, too. I should have come in as soon as I heard the noise. I stood at the doorway dawdling for a long time before finally coming in with an empty folder."

"I don't blame you. You came in and helped me at that time. I should be the one thanking you." Yang Xiao didn't dare to lean on the bench, and she couldn't straighten her back, so she had to curl up like a shrimp.

"My friend is about to get off work. I'll give her a call and she'll come pick me up. You go back first and tell Yang Zhi about the car and return it to him tomorrow." Yang Xiao's voice gradually became softer, with a hint of breath in it.

"Okay. Mr. Yang, you..." Zhao Mutao stared at the ground with a focused look, as if he had made some kind of decision. "If you want to go it alone and don't mind me, then take me with you."

Seeing her serious expression, as if the world was about to end, Yang Xiao forced a smile to comfort her, "Don't worry. If anyone needs to leave, it won't be us. Thank you, Mu Tao."

When Zhao Mutao heard what Yang Xiao said, he immediately laughed. Feeling a little embarrassed, he also imitated Xiao Fei scratching his head and touched the back of his head. He hesitated and said:

"Mr. Yang, are you going to tell Dr. Zhou about this?"

As soon as Wang Ruopeng hung up the phone, he came to the hospital, cursing. Outside the emergency room, he saw Yang Xiao huddled by a chair, and he couldn't suppress his rage. He called her an uneducated bastard and said he would go to Yang Zhi tomorrow to get an explanation.

"Oh, cat. Don't sacrifice your title of people's teacher for him, it's not worth it. I have all the materials, I will contact a lawyer and go through legal procedures when I get back." Yang Xiao's lips were still pale, she leaned against the back seat of the car, stroking Wang Ruopeng's fur.

"What the hell, he deserves a kick in the crotch."

"I wanted to, but I felt like I couldn't stand up anymore."

"So what are your plans for the company in the future? Don't tell me that we can still get along well as colleagues and make money." Wang Ruopeng asked the point.

"If we're colleagues again, next time you can just come over and collect my body." Yang Xiao grinned. Wang Ruopeng glanced at her unhappily. He was still joking with her at this time.

"The company, assets, and employees will all stay, and Yang Zhi will go alone." This was the outcome Yang Xiao had already decided when she felt a sharp pain in her waist. "I'm not a saint. I can't let him suffer no loss at all. He should have known before he took action that everything has a price."

"Are you sure? I remember Yue Ting is a lawyer. I'll ask for you." Wang Ruopeng's anger subsided a little after hearing her words. Now that things have come to this, he can only help Yang Xiao get the maximum compensation.

"Okay, I'll ask my senior too."

It was a classmate Yang Xiao met in college, a year her senior. He was a man very much like Zhou Qi, yet not quite like him. He had a similar personality to Zhou Qi: gentle, polite, and extremely considerate in his dealings with others, and he was also incredibly attentive to Yang Xiao.

Knowing she was working part-time while also doing university work to secure a spot in graduate school, he took most of the work off her and took it all on himself. After graduating from his senior year, he went abroad to study and settled in the United States, specializing in handling business disputes. In the past few years, he'd mail her some quirky little gifts during the holidays, sometimes scented candles, sometimes bird pendants.

So Yang Xiao often saw the shadow of Zhou Qi in him.

But when it comes to love, he's always been a womanizer, never getting caught up in a single romance. He's had a steady stream of girlfriends, yet still has someone coming after him. Affluent family, good looks, and a decent personality all add up to his charm. Perhaps even more than that, his exceptional warmth and care for Yang Xiao.

"Your senior in law who's a playboy?"

Wang Ruopeng frowned.

"Yeah." Yang Xiao knew what Ruopeng was thinking and what she was worried about. "He's very professional and won't cheat me. Right now, getting the company back is the most important thing. Besides, don't you know who I'm interested in?"

Wang Ruopeng was caught off guard by Yang Xiao's dog food. "I'm just worried, is this another difficult person? It'll be like one problem after another."

"Don't worry, a man who only loves himself like him will not look back for anyone else. Don't watch too many prodigal sons coming back, don't be fooled." After saying that, he pulled the wound on his waist again and hissed.

"Don't move. It hurts and hisses. It feels like there's a coiled cobra in the back seat of my car." Wang Ruopeng's expression had completely relaxed at this moment, and she also told her usual jokes.

After arriving home, Ruopeng applied medicine to Yang Xiao according to the doctor's instructions, and helped her to the bed to rest. Wuwu smelled the pungent smell of medicine and hid in the nest.

"Woowu, now that the smell of the medicine has dissipated, go see godmother. Godmother got beaten today, and mom is very mad." Ruopeng hugged Wuwu and sniffed hard on her belly. Wuwu's belly felt warm and soft.

He meowed, "Okay, I understand." He raised his tail and slipped into Yang Xiao's room through the crack in the door.

"Woo woo, here I come - oh, you come to see me, godmother was injured while hunting today, it hurts so much." Yang Xiao's voice made Wang Ruopeng outside the house unable to hold back his laughter, then he raised his mobile phone, opened the door, and went to the stairwell to contact Yue Ting.

Yang Xiao lay on the bed, stroking her sobbing head, and sent a message to her senior to explain the situation. Due to the time difference, Zhou Qi's message arrived before her senior replied.

"It's time to get off work. Did everything go well today, Mr. Yang?"

"Smooth, is Dr. Zhou at work?"

"That went well."

Yang Xiao was just about to reply, "That's good," when Zhou Qi called. Yang Xiao guessed that he was on his way home, and there was still some noise from passersby talking in her ears.

"I missed you so much today." Zhou Qi had no longer concealed his naked feelings since that soy milk bun-like confession. "Of course, it was all in my free time, and it didn't affect my work."

Yang Xiao laughed, and her body shook, pulling a part of her back. She took a deep breath, but was afraid that he would hear it, so she immediately covered her mouth.

"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Zhou Qi suddenly stopped, stood there, and waited quietly for Yang Xiao's answer.

"No, Wuwu was just playing with me." Yang Xiao looked at Wuwu, who was lying in front of her with an innocent expression, and apologized deeply. I'm sorry, Wuwu, for using you as an excuse.

"Woo woo?" Zhou Qi had a guess in his mind after hearing this. "A kitten's name is woo woo, isn't it?"

"Yes, Ruopeng got it. Come and meow, thank Dr. Zhou for the luxurious cat climbing frame. He bought you that mansion!" Wuwu wagged his tail, said nothing, and jumped to the bed.

Yang Xiao planned to wait until everything was settled before telling Zhou Qi what had happened today. If he knew how badly injured he was today, he might not fly over from the city immediately.

But he just left Beijing this morning.

She didn't want him to travel so far, and besides, she could handle this matter on her own. But why did she feel like crying when she heard his voice?

When Yang Zhi lifted her up and threw her against the cabinet door, when the doctor pressed the wound, and when Rupeng applied medicine to herself, it was so painful that she almost fainted, but she gritted her teeth and didn't cry.

In her opinion, these were just episodes in a bad life. But why did she feel as if she had been greatly wronged when Zhou Qi subconsciously asked her if she was feeling unwell?
