Chapter 109: Not Reported Yet

Chapter 109: Not Reported Yet

It was almost noon the next day when Angel arrived at the Blackthorn Security Company on Zouteland Street.

This was Dunn Smith's arrangement, as the negative effects of the "Magic Pocket Watch" lasted for twelve hours. Last night, she used the pocket watch to rescue Klein and drive away the "witch" Triss at approximately 9 o'clock. The negative effects would last until after 9 o'clock this morning.

Fortunately, the "Assassin" has dark vision, so not turning on the lights does not affect her night life.

After greeting Roxanne, Angel came to the door of Dunn's office.

Before I knocked on the door, the captain's voice came from inside:

"Come in."

Angel wordlessly opened the door and walked in, closing it behind him.

There was no light on in the office and the curtains were drawn. After the door was closed, the room was pitch black. Only a ray of sunlight seeping in from around the curtains stained the wall near the window.

In her dark vision, Dunn was sitting behind his desk, one hand supporting his chin, the other hand resting on the table, his eyes deep, staring at her.

Could this... be the way the captain came up with to play the role of "Nightmare"?

That's really strange.

Angel complained inwardly and found a chair to sit down.

"Snap, snap."

Seeing Angel sitting down, Dunn took out a lighter from his pocket and pressed it a few times.

A faint flame emerged from his hand.

He looked over the flames at Angel with anticipation.

The latter looked back with a puzzled look.

"Captain, what's going on?"

Dunn seemed even more surprised than she was. He was silent for a long time before he let go of the lighter and extinguished the flame.

"Are you no longer afraid of fire?"

"Captain, the negative effects of the 'Magic Pocket Watch' only last for twelve hours, and I don't think 'Nightmare' is someone like you..."

"Yes, I remember now. The photophobia effect should have ended two hours ago."

Dunn put away his lighter with an embarrassed look on his face, stood up and opened the curtains to let the sunlight into the office.

"Ahem—let's get down to business." He sat back in his reclining chair, adopting his usual comfortable working posture. "After Klein's divination failed last night, I had Leonard go to the police headquarters overnight to issue a wanted warrant. This morning, a tip-off reported that one of the women on the warrant, Triss, had left Tingen City on the earliest steam train bound for Backlund."

"Did you catch her?"

Angel asked eagerly, but then she saw a look of regret on Dunn's face.

"No. Although Backlund asked the passengers on the same train and someone saw this beautiful woman, she must have been alert, or perhaps it was just her usual habit and she got off the train midway."

"It is noteworthy that her companion, the 'Witch of Pleasure', did not leave with her on the steam train."

"You mean, there's a good chance she's still in Tingen?"

Dunn nodded. "Indeed, last night when I reported this incident affecting all of Tingen to the Holy Temple, they sent me the latest information on the 'Witch Cult.' This Sequence 6 'Pleasure Witch' is likely the successor to Madam Sharon, the one who will take over Tingen City."

"But don't worry too much. We disrupted their evil ritual and saved the lives of dozens of citizens. Furthermore, her existence has been exposed, and she will be wanted by all Orthodox Churches. If she strikes again and attempts to do something similar, she will be reported by the public, attract the attention of the police, and be captured or killed by official Beyonders."

Another wanted order...

Over the past month, Angel had learned that she couldn't count the number of Beyonders on wanted lists on one hand. So far, aside from the "assassin" she'd accidentally encountered and killed at the docks, none of the other wanted individuals had been apprehended, and even useful clues hadn't been found.

Of course, if a Sequence 6 Beyonder was determined to escape, the possibility of being caught by an official Beyonder was very small, and Angel was mentally prepared for this.

"Also, regarding that incident where you...found that mysterious item belonging to the Mechanical Heart..."

Seeing that the other party remained silent, Dunn brought up another matter.

Here it comes...

Angel crossed his legs, changed his sitting position, hid his left hand at his side, and left Dunn's sight.

She quietly pressed the crown of the "magic pocket watch". With just a little force, she could activate this magical item and gain the extraordinary ability of "flame jumping".

It wasn't that she didn't trust her captain. When the battle ended yesterday and they began to inspect the house where the cursed altar was located, Dunn asked her to stay alone in the living room to guard it, while all the other night watchmen went into the restaurant where the altar was located.

She knew very well that this was the space Dunn had deliberately left for her to "escape." This at least showed that Dunn would not take drastic measures, such as asking her to return the magical item or simply notify the Holy Church to arrest her, the Night Watcher who had violated discipline.

Leonard should also understand and acquiesce to this behavior. Klein... He had just been injured and lost blood, and was in very poor condition. He had no energy to think about these issues.

"According to the agreement between the Nighthawks, the Mechanical Heart, and the Mandated Punisher, this extraordinary item stolen by Tomas from the Mechanical Heart should be handed over to the Mechanical Heart along with Tomas after he is captured or killed."

Dunn seemed not to notice Angel's little action. He spoke with a serious expression and paused for a moment.

"Since Tomas, the defector from the Mechanical Heart, is still missing, I'll keep this pocket watch for now until he's captured or killed."

What?

Angel was stunned.

Dunn's feigned seriousness instantly transformed into a smile with a hint of cunning.

"You should thank Leonard and Klein. They've been pleading for you since last night, and Klein even came to me early this morning."

He said this with a smile on his face, but then he realized that this was a serious topic and suppressed his laughter.

"In short, I will hold off on reporting this matter to the Holy Church. However, just in case, I will use my own channels to test the higher-ups' attitude. This will at least help avoid the worst possible outcome."

The worst-case scenario is that the entire Night Slayer team in Tingen City colluded to secretly hide the magical item...

Angel was suddenly touched. Dunn must have been under a lot of pressure after making this decision. He could have pretended not to know, or reported the truth and waited for his superiors' decision, but now he was deliberately concealing it. If Angel was eventually "caught", he would have to bear the responsibility.

"Besides, the church only focuses on magical items with obvious side effects and those that are prone to causing casualties, numbering and managing them as sealed items..."

Dunn changed the subject, and the smile on his face became more obvious.

"That pocket watch, it's called the 'Magic Pocket Watch,' right? I don't think its negative effects will likely cause casualties or major supernatural events."

He seemed to remember what happened last night when Angel fell into a negative effect, and finally couldn't hold back his laughter, turning his head away in an attempt to hide his guilt.

Captain, please return my feelings to me...

Angel felt his face getting hot.
